Why are the "joined" dates really off?

I joined HubPages in July of 2006, and just this week my profile, etc. now reads that I've been with the site for "two years."  I've got another six months before this is true.

Why are the "joined" dates so badly calculated or averaged?

I'm guessing it's because of rounding. You've been here over 1.5 years so that rounds up to 2. smile

That's weird. Mine is right. I joined last April, and it says "10 Months Ago."

They are rounded for display, so at 1.5 years it will start to say two years.  We do actually know the exact date you joined, but to the casual observer it doesn't seem like the difference between 2 years and 1.53 years will be very relevant.  I suppose we could stay in months until you reach 2.5 years (like we now do with minutes to hours transition).

I really like the minutes to hours transition!  Thank you for the explanation, Paul.  I was kind of wondering about all this myself.
