To All The Hubbers That I "Follow"...

    ....formerly known as "Fan"...

About a week ago I stopped getting email notification of new hubs by Hubbers I am a fan of.  I wrote the HP team and they said I should make sure I have marked HP as safe, but I have already done that and still nothing.

There was a forum thread a few days ago and I'm not the only one having trouble, but I don't think HP knows what is wrong...

Anyway, I just didn't want my friends whose new hubs I like to read and comment on think that I'm ignoring them or no longer a fan - I'm just not getting those notifications and I'm quite bummed about it!  Unfortunately I don't have the time to constantly check the Hubtivity for new hubs, so until HP fixes this problem I'll probably missing your hubs :-(

I hope they fix it soon!

Did you also check your profile settings?

Yes, I did do that before contacting the HubPages team - all my settings are correct.

    Hey Lily Rose,

I just saw your thread and wanted to let you know, I too have seen the other threads on this topic and I'll let you know the same thing I said in those.

I am not having any problem with receiving emails about Hubber new Hubs or emails regarding comments or fan/follower mails.

I get everything. So, it would appear it might be individual settings, which might be the problem. I'm not sure of that, but only conclude that, because nothing has stopped for me.

    I hope that helped.

Well, I have changed nothing, so how could that be?  The HP staff said:

"We separate the emails that we send into different types based on howlikely they are to be marked as spam. We send each type from adifferent server. Email providers maintain reputations based on theip address of origin of the email. Most likely the server that wesend the new hub notifications from has a worse reputation withhotmail than the one we send the newsletters from. Anyway, we're working on some things that may help with that, but they take some time. For what it's worth, our delivery rate to gmailaddresses is very good. Yahoo and hotmail are both intermittently problematic. I'd suggest using hubtivity to catch up on the latesthubs by your favorite authors, when the emails go missing."

I don't know why everything was functioning properly for the past 5 months until one week ago??

I am also having the same problem, I haven't received any notifications in the past week. I also checked my settings and everything is as it should be. Don't know what the problem is. Figured it was just a glitch and would work itself out - guess not.

By any chance, is your personal email (where you usually get the notifications) a Hotmail account?

pddm67posted 14 years agoin reply to this

Yes it is - and always has been. Have never had that problem before. Received notifications all the time. Please tell me you know what the problem is! Should I use a different email address?

I do wish I could tell ou what the problem is but I have no idea.  I only asked because the HP team mentioned intermittent problems with yahoo and hotmail accounts, but not gmail.

I, too, have a hotmail email address.  Hubpages is marked as safe and I get the HubPages Weekly email still, just not the new hubs notifications....

Thank you Lily Rose. I re-checked my settings and it says that my hotmail email is verified. I also still get the Weekly email but no new hub notifications. Very strange. I found it kind of odd that no one was putting out new hubs until I saw the postings (previous and current) in the forum. Maybe I'll try using my gmail email address and see if anything changes.

And yet another instance for you, pddm67?  Now I really think it is HubPages...

    Lily Rose-
I am also having this problem, and wrote back and forth to the HP 'team' who say they don't think there is a problem at their end.  I have hotmail, but there is another hubber who is in our boat who uses msn mail.  I've tried contacting hotmail, but they've not responded in 4 days!!!  What I just did around 15 minutes ago is imported everything into a gmail account.  We shall see.
I honestly think it is something to do with HubPages, but they don't.
I'll let you know what happens, if you'd like.

PS: This started around a week ago for me as well.  Another weird thing is that along with the weekly I do get fanmail and comments from HP still, only no notifications of new Hubs....Hmmmm!

    1. Lily Rose profile image86
Lily Roseposted 14 years agoin reply to this

Yep, me too - getting the weekly and notification of comments and fanmail no problem, but not new hub notices.  It's got to be a HP problem.

I don't use gmail and don't wish to open yet another email account to bother with, so I do hope they fix this because I do enjoy perusing the new hubs of people I follow, I just don't have the time to constantly check the hubtivity (whichis what the HP staff is suggesting I do) to do so!

Now you mention it, I don't think I've had any notifications in the last few days. To be honest usually I just delete the e-mails and then when I have time I go through them via the link on my account page. I don't know how long it would have taken me to notice!! Bout a week seems about right.

Just changed to my gmail email address. It's been verified by HP. All that's left to do is wait and see.

I have done the same...but how did you get verification from HP?  Just if it saves the change?

pddm67posted 14 years agoin reply to this

Go back into your settings and where you new email address is it should now say "please verify email address" or something similar instead of saying "verified" as before. Click on it and it will send an email to you to verify the email address.

  9. Lisa HW profile image63

I turned off the e.mail notifications because someone I "follow" (stalk??  lol) may write up a giant storm over a couple of days, and if you have a few Hubbers do that it can get to be quite a bit in the inbox.  Besides, my inbox already gets tons and tons of notifications from other sites for one reason or another.  These days I look for featured favorites activity, or I'll go looking for the profiles of people I "follow".   For me doing my own "looking"puts things back into my own hands when the time to look comes around.  I kind of like the "browsing aspect" of this approach.

Me too, Lisa. Having my already over-full in-box deluged with notices is not good. I have some people's RSS feeds, and then browse others profiles.

Woo Hoo!!! It worked. Just received notification of a newly published hubs to my gmail email. Guess there's some confusion between hotmail & HP.

For those that don't want a ton of emails, change your settings to receive the new hubs in bulk.  I get one email a day with all the new hubs by hubbers that I "follow" smile

  14. Lily Rose profile image86
    Lily Roseposted 14 years ago

Well, I don't know if the problem has been fixed, but yesterday I switched my preference to receive all new hubs of hubbers I'm following in a daily summary rather than immediately and this morning I had the email.  So I don't know if they fixed the problem, or my switching notification preferences is what worked.

I have yahoo and I used to have gmail and never had any problems. I also would reccomend having the prefrence for "daily summary" it lets you know when someone writes, but its only one email. If, for some reason that doesn't work, its easy enough to check if people have written anything new by.... going to "my acount", then click on "hubbers I follow"..or whatever, it used to say hubber fanclubs. There will be a list of everyone you follow, and a link to thier most recent hub. I do that on days I dont check my email. Hope everything works out for you guys!!  smile

Wow - just when you think you know a whole lot about how HP works, you learn something new!  I go to my account page all the time but never even noticed the 'hubbers I follow' link, maybe because I was getting the emails so never needed to go there, but now it's good to know - thanks!

I also am having problems with my fans....I am not finding any way to moderate the fanmail, in other words, I cannot find the place to approve or deny my fanmail any more?  Is this the same problem others are having also?

    1. Lily Rose profile image86
Lily Roseposted 14 years agoin reply to this

Go to 'my profile', then click 'edit profile', scroll down a little bit and under 'email' on the left hand side you'll see where you can make changes to your preferences.  (No, that's not what we were talking about, but there's your answer.)

      "my account"
at the top of the page
then you will see "fan mail" (among the options to change your profile and look at comments and all that)..click on that and you will see all the fan mail you have gotten with buttons to approve/deny new mail.
