Recommendation Section

I'm suggesting a section on HP where hubbers can make recommendations of interesting hubs and also hubbers.  Unlike the section that is on HP's front page where selections are made by hubscore in a certain category, this would be hubs and hubbers selected by other hubbers (who must be signed in).

    1. There should be a static top 10 of hubs with the most votes regardless of category or subject.

    2. A rotating list of hubs and hubbers which will last a week or so.

    3. Not be a forum category.

    4. A button or tab placed on every hub and in every hubbers profile to make the recommendations easy just like the "rate it" tabs.

With over a 120,000 hubbers here there are too many slipping through the cracks and never getting the full recognition they deserve.

This is a site for writers and if we don't reward the talented writers they will move on.  Like it's been said in other forums, we as a community need to find a balance between the commercial and non commercial writers so Hubpages can continue with its success and we as hubbers can share in that success.

I think I would recommend livewithrichars;s hubbs for everyone to read , they are some of the best I have seen on hubpages so far

Thank you Starme77 but I think if you look real close, some of my first hubs are crap.  It took a couple months to learn what was going to do well here for me.

Look at mine , sh*t I am just starting to write again since graduating from school for it like a few years ago , shoulda kept on writing , but , well, guess I could make all kinds of excuses , my hubs right now have spelling errors and typos and some , I'm not too sure they make a whole hell of a lot of sense , but ,  they are my first hubs , I leave em as is cause I go back and learn from them , not embarrassed and have to fix em or anything like that, so thats where I'm at right now , but, it will get better and better for me , I'm sure , actually , it has latley just from reading your hubs and learning from you , so don't beat yourself up , your hubs are some of the best out there smile

Since HubScores constantly fluctuate and votes continually get added, how is a "static top 10" going to work?

My concern would be how to keep people from trying to 'game' the system.

You're right, a top 10 of hubs voted by hubbers. What I meant was, a top 10 would remain but the lesser recommended hubs and hubbers would rotate every week (or less time) Enough time to get them a bit of exposure the way the top hubscores get other hubbers exposure on the front page.

Yoshi - we can prevent gamers to the system by writing some code that only allows the voter to vote for any hub just one time. The code can check variables against the hubber's name and also the ip address for those that have multiple accounts. And since they must be signed in, it would take a great effort to game the system.

Great idea! Are you thinking something like the "favourite" feature on Flickr? That would be really useful here, kind of like bookmarking a hub but instead maybe your favourites could be displayed on your profile page, and the ones most favourited could be in the top ten.

I think that Relache has pointed out several times that allowing music and other elements that were part of the "old" web will diminish the value of this site.

We all like music, but music on pages is the number one voted annoyance by visitors to webpages. Why? Because the visitor does not get the opportunity to choose what music is being played.
