Thanks for your reply. I created an adsense acct., said paste one code in source box - did that - now it says to paste second code in HTML format through the insert feature on the website.
I'm so confused. I went back to follow your directions. There is already a code in for google, that can't be changed which says association pending. And what is my publisher ID - my URL?

you don't need to do anything with HTML - HubPages takes care of all that.
for Adsense, go to Affilliate Settings and paste your Publisher ID in the Google Affiliate Code section. for Amazon, paste your Amazon code in Amazon's Affiliate Code section.
