Is there a song which contains lyrics that have effected your life?  If so what was the lyric the song and the band?

    I will go first
    The Ballad
    Testament

"Now I know the means to my oppression were all lies.  The only truth is your own most sacred lesson I've ever learned. I know we are free!"

I published a hub on this last night.
I have many songs with the lyrics of my life, The Beatles-Bob Dylan-K's Choice... all have written songs that have spoken to me

These are probably the ones that meant the most to my past
        -My life in the Lyrics

Blackbird singing in the dead of night-Take these broken wings and learn to fly-All your life-You were only waiting for this moment to arise.
The Beatles, Blackbird- Lyrics by Paul McCartney

She said I don't know if I've ever been good enough -I'm a little bit rusty, and I think my head is caving in -And I don't know if I've ever been really loved -By a hand that's touched me, well I feel like something's Gonna give -And I'm a little bit angry.
        Matchbox 20, Push

I hurt myself today -To see if I still feel -I focus on the pain -The only thing that's real -The needle tears a hole-The old familiar sting -Try to kill it all away -But I remember everything -What have I become -My sweetest friend -Everyone I know goes away In the end -And you could have it all ,My empire of dirt -I will let you down -I will make you hurt.
        Johnny Cash, Hurt

Look for the girl with the sun in her eyes, And she's gone.
The Beatles, Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds

Slow down you crazy child-You're so ambitious for a juvenile-But then if you're so smart tell me why are you still so afraid?      Slow down you're doing fine-You can't be everything you want to be-Before your time-Although it's so romantic on the borderline tonight (tonight)-Too bad but it's the life you lead-You're so ahead of yourself-That you forgot what you need-Though you can see when you're wrong-You know you can't always see when you're right(you're right)
You got your passion you got your pride -But don't you know that only fools are satisfied?-Dream on but don't imagine they'll all come true.
        Billy Joel, Vienna

The deeper you stick it in your vein the deeper the thoughts, there's no more pain- I'm in heaven, I'm a god- I'm  everywhere, I feel so hot- It's not a habit, it's cool, I feel alive- If you don't have it you're on the other side- I'm not an addict (maybe that's a lie)- It's over now, I'm cold, alone- I'm just a person on my own- Nothing means a thing to me
(Nothing means a thing to me)      Free me, leave me- Watch me as I'm going down-Free me, see me- Look at me, I'm falling and I'm falling.   K’s Choice, Not an Addict

It's hard to make out but

Hope by Devil Sold His Soul. Very few words, but the music makes me feel entirely liberated when I'm down.

Give up everything for the chance, fast becoming my final breath,
    My final breath.
    Rest.

    Redemption is in my heart.
And I know that we'll be just fine .

It is a great song. Many others are heavier, and people don't appreciate the amount of screaming, but I like the whole album and their EP. They just signed to a Major Label, I really hope that doesn't bring the quality down hmm

Dawn of the First Day is another one to check out smile

The Wood Song by the Indigo Girls

"Sometimes I ask to sneak a closer look
Skip to the final chapter of the book
And then maybe steer us clear from some of the pain it took
To get us where we are this far

But the question drowns in its futility
And even I have got to laugh at me
No one gets to miss the storm of what will be
Just holding on for the ride

The wood is tired and the wood is old
We'll make it fine if the weather holds
But if the weather holds we'll have missed the point
That's where I need to go"

It's hard to choose just one, as I use music to help me through transitions in my life.  But, I never tire of listening to "Stones in the Road" by Mary Chapin Carpenter

When we were young, we pledged allegiance every morning of our lives
The classroom rang with children's voices under teacher's watchful eye
We learned about the world around us at our desks and at dinnertime
Reminded of the starving children, we cleaned our plates with guilty minds
And the stones in the road shone like diamonds in the dust
And then a voice called to us to make our way back home

When I was ten, my father held me on his shoulders above the crowd
To see a train draped in mourning pass slowly through our town
His widow kneeled with all their children at the sacred burial ground
And the TV glowed that long hot summer with all the cities burning down

And the stones in the road flew out beneath our bicycle tires
Worlds removed from all those fires as we raced each other home

And now we drink our coffee on the run, we climb that ladder rung by rung
We are the daughters and the sons, and here's the line that's missing

The starving children have been replaced by souls out on the street
We give a dollar when we pass, and hope our eyes don't meet
We pencil in, we cancel out, we crave the corner suite
We kiss your ass, we make you hold, we doctor the receipt

And the stones in the road fly out from beneath our wheels
Another day, another deal, before we get back home

And the stones in the road leave a mark from whence they came
A thousand points of light or shame, baby, I don't know

Another one that had such an impact on me I have a tatoo of the lyrics

Steve Vai \The Audience is Listening

I am fearless in my heart
You will always see it in my eyes
I am the Passion, I am the Warfare
    I will never stop
    Always constant
    accurate
    and intense!!

Black Sabbath — Heaven & Hell has an impact on my life!!

    Sing me a song, you're a singer
Do me a wrong, you're a bringer of evil
The devil is never a maker
The less that you give, you're a taker
So it's on and on and on, it's heaven and hell, oh well

The lover of lifes not a sinner
The ending is just a beginner
The closer you get to the meaning
The sooner you'll know that you're dreaming
So it's on and on and on, oh it's on and on and on
It goes on and on and on, heaven and hell
    I can tell, fool, fool!

Well if it seems to be real, it's illusion
For every moment of truth, there's confusion in life
Love can be seen as the answer, but nobody bleeds for the dancer
And it's on and on, on and on and on....

They say that lifes a carousel
Spinning fast, youve got to ride it well
The world is full of kings and queens
Who blind your eyes and steal your dreams
Its heaven and hell, oh well
And they'll tell you black is really white
The moon is just the sun at night
And when you walk in golden halls
You get to keep the gold that falls
Its heaven and hell, oh no!
    Fool, fool!
Youve got to bleed for the dancer!
    Fool, fool!
    Look for the answer!
    Fool, fool, fool!

There are many songs that I can say have "life changing lyrics".  However, a more current song -- for me -- is Raheem Devaughn "Strong Woman".  I created a hub with that song's video on it, because I like it so much.

this has to be one of my top ten songs:

Too late, my time has come
      Sends shivers down my spine
      Body's aching all the time
      Goodbye, everybody
      I've got to go
Gotta leave you all behind and face the truth
Mama, oooooooh (Anyway the wind blows)
      I don't want to die
Sometimes wish I'd never been born at all

I love these lyrics in this song

I will Survive by Gloria Gaynor??
It took all the strength I had
      not to fall apart
      kept trying hard to mend
the pieces of my broken heart
and I spent oh so many nights
      just feeling sorry for myself
      I used to cry
Now I hold my head up high
      and you see me
      somebody new
I'm not that chained up little person
      still in love with you
and so you felt like dropping in
and just expect me to be free
now I'm saving all my loving
      for someone who's loving me

      Great Lyrics

The single song that has had the most impact on me is "The God that Failed," by Metallica.  The line 'Decide just what you believe,' sent me on a four year journey to find out what I believe and why.

Metallica was once a great band.  My favorite Metallica lyrics "Fade to Black":
Life it seems will fade away
      Drifting further every day
      Getting lost within myself
      Nothing matters, no one else

I have lost the will to live
      Simply nothing more to give
There is nothing more for me
Need the end to set me free

Things not what they used to be
      Missing one inside of me
Deathly lost, this can't be real
Cannot stand this hell I feel

      Emptiness is filling me
      To the point of agony
      Growing darkness taking dawn
I was me but now he's gone

No one but me can save myself
      But it's too late
      Now I can't think
Think why I should even try

      Yesterday seems as though
      It never existed
      Death greets me warm
Now I will just say goodbye

These lyrics bring out more emotions in me than I would care to admit.

    Incubus - Drive

Sometimes I feel the fear of uncertainty stinging clear
And I can't help but ask myself how much I let the fear
    Take the wheel and steer

    It's driven me before
And it seems to have a vague and haunting mass appeal
But lately I'm beginning to find that I
Should be the one behind the wheel

Whatever tomorrow brings I'll be there
With open arms and open eyes yeah
Whatever tomorrow brings I'll be there
    I'll be there

So if I decide to waiver my chance to be one of the hive
Will I choose water over wine and hold my own and drive?
    It's driven me before
And it seems to be the way that everyone else gets around
But lately I'm beginning to find that
When I drive myself my light is found

Whatever tomorrow brings, I'll be there
With open arms and open eyes yeah
Whatever tomorrow brings, I'll be there
    I'll be there

Would you choose water over wine
    Hold the wheel and drive
Whatever tomorrow brings, I'll be there
With open arms and open eyes yeah

On a serious note, Missile by IAMX

So you came like a missile,
Falling on my head with the black sky,
Think you're giving but you're taking my life away

Then you came with your breeze blocks,
Smashing up my face like a bus stop,
Think you're giving but you're taking my life away

Like the drunk you convinced was sober,
    You keep me falling over,
Think you're giving but you're taking my life away

    With the best of intentions,
You tried to give an ocean direction,
Think you're giving but you're taking my life away

So you came like a missile,
Leaving me the whole world in exile,
Think you're giving but you're taking my life away

Like the drunk you convinced was sober,
    You keep me falling over,
Think you're giving but you're taking my life away.
