What's it for, I've tried clicking it just to see what happens and... NOTHING!
If you click on someones permalink all it will do is take you back to that post.
What you do is copy and paste the URL somewhere else. So if there's a post within a thread that you want to bring to the attention of someone else, you use it that way.
