I am just wondering how to obtain the correct page ranking
If i type the name of a hub into google it comes up as the first one on the page.
If I use th Page Rank Checker it comes up and says 2/10
Which is right. thanks
Susana is correct, in most cases that increased Page Rank will lead to a higher position in the SERP's (Search engine result placement)
Keep in mind, that a site or hub can show up in google for so many variations and queries, how could any single number represent 'Page Rank" as you were imagining it?
Accurate PR is displayed on Google Toolbar. And our hubs come under hubpages domain so the individual PR on hubs may or may not be accurate.
SEOquake for firefox gives you page rank plus number of inlinks and a pile of other information.
Eileen - pagerank and search engine results position are different things. Pagerank goes from 1-10 and is to do with the authority of the page, age of page etc, not where you are inthe searh results
Your pages' position on the search results is not pagerank, but serps. I know it's kind of complicated, but i've explained it in several of my hubs if you want to look.
Thanks guys for your explanations. I just thought that when it came up first on the google that it meant it was number 1 but was confused when I saw it as no 2 on the page rank.
Thanks for the help. cheers have a good day.
2 is good ... 3 is better ... and 4 would be pretty sweet!
However, page rank alone does not determine your ranking in Google, nor does your rank in Google determine your page rank.
If you hit the #1 spot on Google, disregard your page rank and make more #1 hubs. Page rank don't pay diddly ... I have a PR3 page that hasn't paid a cent. However, the #1 spot on Google has the best chance of a payout as it received about 42% of all traffic for a specific keyword. Of course, if that keyword doesn't pay diddly you get a lot of page hits but nothing much to show for it.
To profit from online writing you need to:
1: Find a keyword phrase that pays and is relatively low on competition
2: Write quality content around that keyword phrase and use that keyword phrase in your page title
3: Slowly build backlinks to your page (too fast is as bad as not at all, regardless of what they say in Shady Acres)
I hope this helps.
And what good is PR, you might ask? Not much, I'm afraid, as it's not something you directly influence. However, it does kind of give you an idea of how well your page is being received by Google. If the PR rises slowly your page should achieve some success. If it lulls forever without a rating it's probably time to rewrite the page.
In a nutshell, PR is a gauge of how worthy Google thinks your page is ... and building a page with great content is the first step to getting noticed by the big G (and others).
So, when I'm procrastinating, it's a good thing?
I haven't heard this advice before.
Could you explain why? (If you don't mind )
If learning slowly is also better than learning too fast, then I'm in great shape!!
Spammers, as a rule, want to get a page ranked high and then move on. A favorite tactic is to create many backlinks overnight, joping to prove to Google that the page became immediately popular and is worthy of a high ranking. However, Google has been wise to this scheme for some time now and measures how many backlinks form over time.
The number one thing anyone needs to know about ranking in SEO is that Google wants pages to rank organically (naturally, without any gaming of the system). Google's reasoning for this is that it wants to remove spammers from the top 10 links because people would stop using Google overnight if the top results were always nothing but spam.
This is why Google keeps much of the ranking formula a secret, to keep the playing field as fair as they can. If it ranks in Google, they want it to be because your article has a lot to offer someone interested in a particular keyword.
So to speak ... if you are looking up racing horses in Google, they 'do not' want the top 10 hits to all be 'how to make a million in the stock market'.
Pick good keywords ... write great content ... build links slowly.
It makes sense.
I'm trying to get this figured out. I only know enough to be dangerous - to myself, that is.
But I guess I'm getting there.
A fair playing field is great for people who play fair
By that, I mean regular folks (like me) at least have a fighting chance.
Thanks as always my friend
i agree for hubpages pagerank isn't very useful.
but for regular pages where you can edit/change content or sell ad space (text links) to others, it's a pretty handy thing to have.
you can think of it almost like reputation or currency which you can chose to spend on things.
if you use your pagerank 5 page to point to a site with anchor text in order to get it to rank you will get significantly more POP for your link than a PR1 page for example.
Yoshi, I agree with you as have found out first hand. I was a little bit adventurous one day (I did ask permission first before writing it) I wrote an article on " how to give good head"
In two days from memory I think I got nearly 3000 views. It now over 8000 but have only earned $1.81. wow I'll get rich on that.
By the way that article isnt what it sounds like YES Really is not that at all but still has good head. Here is the link
