I'm new and excited to get going. I'll probably make a few mistakes, but I'm a fast learner. I'm going to spend tomorrow morning going over sample hubs, topics, answers, Hubbers, and forums. By tomorrow night, I'll be much better acquainted with rules and Hub etiquette.

Here's a little something about me:

First and foremost I'm the luckiest man on earth. I've been married to my best friend, Donna, for 41 years. We moved from beautiful Western Montana to the Indianapolis area in late 2009, to be close to our grown children and grandkids. I sure miss Montana, but I also want to be on hand, watching and helping those grandbabies grow up.

I owned radio stations and a weekly paper for almost 20 years. I also owned a real estate brokerage and still have my brokers license.

Don't hold this against me, but I was a Montana State Senator and Montana State Representative. I was a Chairman of the Business and Industry Committee and also chaired the Health and Human Services Committee. As it was a citizen legislature, we made about minimum wage to cover our expenses when we left our homes every 2 years to go to the state capitol. No professional politicians. Just everyday people like farmers, educators, small business owners and doctors. It was the best experience of my life.

I've read through some Hubs and I'm impressed with the content and quality. I would like to become friends with everyone offer any help I can. You seem like a great group!

Welcome to HubPages from a fellow Hoosier!

Your thread title caught my eye 'cause I initially like anyone who says "Howdy"!  haha

You sound like a nice person.  I do hope you'll pardon my hesitation about anyone who's a legislator or former legislator.    (No I'm not holdin' it against you necessarily, but right now most of 'em stink! ha)

Umm.....are you a Lefty or a Right-wing?  (Now that's the important thing).  wink

P.S. Congrats on moving closer to the kids/grandkids.  That's always a real Blessing!

        Brenda,

I'm a recovering politician. I actually loved it and did some really good things in health care, workers compensation and fighting against more entitlement programs. My biggest disappointment was in not getting a bill passed that essentially said" If a legislator introduces a bill, he or she has to find two statutes to take off the books". I think you can tell that I was and still am conservative.  We had a quadriplegic daughter until she passed away 2 years ago, so I have no issue with helping take care of those that truly can't help themselves. I do have a problem with "professional victims" that ride the system.  Even though this is a Hubber Hangout, it's probably not appropriate to go and further with politics. I like the people I've met here and feel right at home. Well, I've got to go hangout at the T-ball practice and watch my  grandson.
        See you in the forums.

    Welcome!

Thank you for such a thorough introduction.

Sounds like you got lucky and found some of the better hubs.  There is a bit of a "quality control" issue we've been discussing later.  (Never hesitate to give a "thumbs down" vote to any hub you read that is less than quality.)

Again, welcome, and I'm sure I'm not the only one who is eager to read what you submit!

RE: The "Howdy".  I didn't put it in my bio, but I am a horseman, too. I used to rodeo and have been a rodeo producer for 18 years. I've been around cowboys all my life and the "Howdy" seems a heck of a lot more natural than hello>

Welcome to Hub Pages, from Florida! I want to retire to Montana, I drove though on the way to Seattle and fell in love with the place. I am sure you miss it, but being close to your family is important!

      Faybe Bay,

It kind of goes back and forth from week to week. We left a beautiful little Valley in Western Montana, about 40 miles south of Missoula. We had a little ranch with horses. I could ride out my back pasture and into a million acre forest wilderness area.  I miss my horses, my ranch and my activities. I was a volunteer and horse counselor at a therapeutic riding center for disabled kids. We were there for over 35 years and that's hard to give up.  However, when I go to all the family activities like T-ball, soccer, little guy football, ballet recitals, etc. I know we did the right thing.

Welcome to HubPages!!!  It sounds like you've lived a very interesting life--you probably have lots of stories to "hub" about--can't wait to read them!

I have family in Indy, and I love that area, but I think I'd prefer Montana, lol...lol
