Topic title says it all but here is the link from the Google Blog
To be honest there have been a lot of indicators that site load speed was part fo the algorythm for some time already, I am actually pretty sure Google have mentioned it before.
Ah well, at least we have it clarified now.
Matt Cutts hinted in an interview with WebProNews at the end of last year that page speed would probably become a factor early this year. He pretty much said this was coming if a person was smart enough to read between the lines.
So this is no surprise to me.
