There are too many social marketing sites and often it is said that if you post your blog link there you can generate traffic. But this would depend on the community you have built, your participation and credibility there which takes time. In the short term it seems like standing in the street corner and shouting for people to read your blog. What is your opinion and experience?
There are hubbers here who say social bookmarking sites are more effective than social sites like Facebook. However, some also pay for services so that they can get professionals to manually link to directories and bookmarks. They do not advocate software for this, from what I have read.
In my experience it's all a waste of time. I posted loads to SheToldMe and got 1 visit.
I have lots of big traffic sites and the amount of referals they get from digg and others is very small.
However setting up a facebook group for your product or service can be quite lucrative.
