As they would mingle with the good people we meet
      Good friends we have had,
oh good friends we've lost along the way
In this bright future you can't forget your past
So dry your tears I say

      no woman no cry..

My fear is my only courage
So I've got to push on thru

Yes. You should not make any women cry. Women crying is bad. Bad voodoo for you. NEVER make a woman cry.

    Very good.

It makes absolutely no sense... no woman no cry.

I have seen plenty of women cry when happy and not happy. So, therefore, cannot be done. wink

    Hush, hush, baby, baby..
No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no don't you cry.
    Don't you cryyyyyyyeeeiii.

I love that song. Can't recall it though. Just that verse and then it tears off into a haunting guitar solo. Janis Joplin is the best I can say.

'Cause I remember when we used to sit
In the government yard in Trenchtown
    Oba, ob-serving the hypocrites
As they would mingle with the good people we meet
Good friends we have had, oh good friends we've lostalong the way
In this bright future you can't forget your past
So dry your tears I say

    No woman, no cry
    No woman, no cry
Little darlin' don't shed no tears
    No woman, no cry

Said, said, said I remember when we used to sit
In the government yard in Trenchtown
And then Georgie would make the fire light
Log wood burnin' through the night
Then we would cook corn meal porridge
Of which I'll share with you

My feet is my only carriage
So I've got to push on through
    But while I'm gone...

    Ev'rything's gonna be alright
    Ev'rything's gonna be alright
    Ev'rything's gonna be alright
    Ev'rything's gonna be alright
    Ev'rything's gonna be alright
    Ev'rything's gonna be alright
    Ev'rything's gonna be alright
    Ev'rything's gonna be alright

    So, no woman, no cry
No, no woman, no woman, no cry
Oh, little darling, don't shed no tears
    No woman, no cry

No woman, no woman, no woman, no cry
    No woman, no cry
Oh, my little darlin' please don't shed no tears
    No woman, no cry, yeah

    Never heard that one.

The Joplin one I was trying to recall though is Summertime. And like most Joplin songs it was somebody else's first. That one and Little Girl Blue are two of my faves from her.

Ok, I'll add one from one of my faves, SRV.

Well I’m standin’ next to a mountain....choppin’ down with the edge of my hand
Well I’m standin’ next to a mountain....choppin’ down with the edge of my hand
Pick up the pieces, make an island....might even raise a little sand

    Cause I’m a voodoo chile....lord knows I’m a voodoo chile

I didn’t mean to take up all your sweet time
Give it right back to you....one of these days
I didn’t mean to take up all your sweet time
Give it right back to you....the rest of my days

I won’t see you again in this world....see ya in the next one
    Don’t be late....don’t be late

    Cause I’m a voodoo chile yeah....lord knows I’m a voodoo chile

Rubin Carter and a couple of friends are driving around
Number one contender for the middleweight crown
Had no idea what kinda shit was about to go down
When a cop pulled him over to the side of the road
Just like the time before and the time before that
In Patterson that's just the way things go
If you're black you might as well not shown up on the street
