What is it that makes you follow someone? Is it because they follow you as well, or you like what they usually talk about?
Do think they are funny? Smart? What?
I take a good look at their profile and in my opinion you can tell a lot about them in the same way that first impressions count when you attend an interview.
They say never judge a book by its cover but you should at least present yourself well at the outset if people are going to be interested in following you.
Don't follow everyone that follows you, you arent' doing them a favor if you are not reading their stuff. Follow those who you really enjoy reading, and keep up with their newer stuff.
