Hubpages appears to set certain sizes for images - 260px wide for half size(that's the one I usually use)and 130px wide for quarter and 540px for full(I think on those last two!).

If you upload an image that is 100px and set it to half size it will be stretched to 260px and get "blocky" pixels.

On my postage stamp hubs I wanted the stamps to be (more or less) correct proportions.  To do this, I made a 260px wide base image with a white background and then pasted the actual image in the center.  This let me use a smaller actual image, but avoid the size problem.

Initially I have the same problem and also asked in the forum.

Now I know why. You have to look at your monitor's screen size. If it's more than 100%, the pictures were so stretched that the colors and sharpness were compromised.
