I want to try and actually make some money on the hub, so I was thinking I could advertise for products that I really like. Is this againts hubpages?
I have seen other people advertise and seen a lot flagged too, so what are the guidlines. I signed on the account thinking only about writing, but...now I needs to makes some money.
Sandra I think you'd be hard pressed to find anything that is "againts" the "guidlines" of hubpages!

Sandra - Write about technology products that Amazon and ebay sell and add affiliate links to the products in the hub. I make about $50 a week from this page alone:

Amazon changed their affiliate program yesterday by cutting the payout for most affiliates by half or more. Has HubPages addressed how these changes will affect content providers here?
