From near-prodigy to novice, 0 at that, in 24-48 hrs. How can this happen?
I noticed on of my hubs has been penalized for "duplicate content" Granted it isn't a fancy recipe, but I stole nothing from anywhere else.

Our duplicate content checker is not infallible, particularly when there are a lot of short common phrases as might happen with a recipe. When you see that penalty appear and your content is original (or you've quoted another site in a reasonable way), you can submit it for further review (just click the learn more link next to the warning).
The score went down on the hub where we (falsely) detected duplicate content As soon as that was cleared up, it should have recovered to normal levels again (it sits at a thoroughly respectable 63 right now).
The author score is derived primarily from the scores of your individual hubs, so when the hub went down it took your author score with it.
Traffic is one of the major components of HubScore, so yes more traffic would be likely to raise the score.
The most common way to get lots of traffic on HubPages is to make your content search engine friendly. A lot has been written on that topic already, so I'll let other's elaborate.
Thanks for your time and explaining it further. Have a good weekend.
If you are logged in it will appear on the hub just below the EDIT, DELETE, and VIEW STATS buttons.
I have had no messages, but I have duplicated my own content. I have wondered if this is a good idea...?
I have used the same ariticles on both Hubpages and Squidoo, and worse some b*****s have pinched an article I wrote.
In general the more something is duplicated the bigger the penalty will be. If it's just on a couple of sites I wouldn't worry about it. If you don't see the penalty appear, then it is not affecting your score. If you do get a penalty and the content is original, just use the review feature and we can clear things up.
Thanks Paul (sorry to take so long to reply). I hope this hasn't been answered already, but what is the HubPages policy on simply posting information from Wikipedia on a HubPage?
I see this done occasionally, and it seems to be cheating to me. It's especially irritating if someone doing a similar Hub to yourself gets a higher rating when they have just copy and pasted from Wiki, while you have used original material you have researched and written all on your little ownsome.
I just had a hub drop to 3! It is being called "duplicate content", but I didn't paste from anywhere. I composed the entire thing myself, even took my own pictures, used a recipe I adapted from my grandma...
I guess we'll see if the "review" works on this one.
Wow...quick review...the score is up in the 80's now. Crazy.
I had a dream last night that all of my hubs were marked down and had low scores! It was awful. Only a dream.
Well Stuart, if someone is using content from WIKI (or anywhere else), report it as duplicate content with the link to the source.
Why did someone restart a thread that had been inactive for twelve months? Nice answer to his question though Eric.

I was just checking my stats when I noticed that a hub I published on 1-7-07 has been flagged and incurring a HP penalty for duplicate content. It's my highest earning hub and HP giving me a penalty-and then...

I have read how hubscore is computed but was still surprised the other day when I saw a hubscore of 1. It just is somewhat amazing to me that some hubscores are 10 or below. Don't get me wrong----I'm...

I notice several disgruntled Hubbers on Eric's new Hub, saying they're leaving HubPages because of the duplicate content flags. They seem to be misunderstanding what the dup content flag is all about - either they think...
