I believe it would be beneficial to be able to change our username if we would like to. Because some people might want to tweak it, such as myself once they start to get into Hubpages. And it should be a very easy feature to add.
Changing a user name would either mean that your name would not match your profile URL, which would be very confusing, or would change your profile URL, which would break all previous backlinks to your profile. For these reasons, we do not plan to introduce the ability to change your user name.
It used to be that users could edit their screen names, but I think that option was then abused by some less-than-civil users, so it was disabled.
It's clearly mentioned when you sign-up and in the FAQ that you can't change your name once you join the site.
