Just curious, has anyone noticed their followers constantly fluctuating. I have remained in the 880-883 range despite the fact I'm constantly receiving new followers. I would love to get to 1000 followers before the year is over, but at this rate I never will. I know it doesn't mean very much, but 1000 seems like a nice round number.
Yes mine are not just fluctuating, they are dropping while new followers are signing on. I have a theory, as I don't usually lose followers I believe people are leaving hubpages in numbers I haven't seen before because of the results on their hubs from the Google slap. I hope I'm wrong. It must be hell at HP headquarters!
I agree with all the theories, facts and queries. Because I've noticed broken links on my hubs, and when I check out why, I find the hub has been deleted. Earnest, I noticed the same thing with mine, so as you said not fluctuating, just dropping. I hope it can stabilize soon.
Are those 800 followers are your actual readers? Or just imaginary friends? Because mine are the latter. They are just a statistics but they don't read. Sadly, but true. My number is not that high, though, only 52 followers, out of which 2 are readers....
I kind of figured that's what was going on too -- whenever I get new followers I like to look at their recent activity to see where they might have found me, and at least half of them have shown nothing in their recent activity except following tons of people. I'm sure these types of accounts are proving a bit short-lived these days . As long as people who are actually reading and enjoying my hubs stick around, life is good.
The number of people following me has always gone a little down and then more up, then a little down, more up.
However, it's not the number of followers that I care about, it's the amount of traffic. While having followers CAN help, I personally only regularly check out content of a few people I am following.
That said, the BEST way to get followers is to create great content -- apparently you have to already have so many followers, so you know the next thing to do: create more content!
Best of luck in your goal!
As for why followers are disappearing, Relache is right on! HubPages has been cleaning house lately getting rid of a TON of spam hubbers. I, personally, have reported a few people as possible spammers -- sometimes I'll report my own followers if they deem as such.
Spammers hurt our community more than they help my follow list. As for right now, your follower list may continue to drop, but don't be alarmed -- if your followers followed you because they enjoyed your content (which is WHY people should follow in the first place) then you will keep most of your followers.
I went hubhopping and it was an education. So many new sites that were just adverts for products and services. There has to be a purge on here, if HP is to be taken seriously as an informative site. (ps My followers number seems to be stuck on 79!)
With everything that's been going on, and may go on, I've wondered if one day I'll just notice that I have - like - 4 followers: my three kids and my sister. (Oh, wait... They aren't Hubbers. Oh well... )
Not complaining but I don't understand hub. In an attempt to get involved, I started following a lot of Hubbers. Many of them followed me back and I am seeing a dramatic increase in viewing traffic for my hubs. I guess...
I have big question mark about fluctuating hub scores. I am in hubpages since last one and half year and yet can not understand its working method. For instance, I had hub score 90 yesterday night that has fallen to 88...
I just checked my email and saw I had notifications that I had six new followers. I checked all these and found none of them have any hubs and all joined 4 hours ago. All are shown as following between 80 and 150...
