Thought I'd post at HP first as you've all been so helpful before - I am getting a 404 message when I try to log into my dashboard for my site. I have upgraded to latest version with Fantastico through my CP Panel but still getting error message - any suggestions - apart from screaming and tearing my hair out?
Its the standard page not found. I've tried clearing the cache - then checked on Fanstastico on the CPaneland made the recommended upgrade - still no joy.
Across the top I stil get the grey bar that I can normally use when editing the site - it has options for edit my profile make a new post etc - but if I click anyone of those I still get the page not found message.
Nope - it gives me the pop up, I put in name and password and it takes me back to the blinking error page.
Still stressed. Thanks for trying to help me out - please keep holding my hand until this disaster has passed
If I put in the wrong password the pop up says it is wrong, when I put in the right password it logs in and I can see the grey tool bar for editing the site but I can't access the dashboard, or any of the wordpress admin pages I would normally use.
Sounds like it is stuck part way through an update - try starting the update again in your Cpanel.
Clear your browser cache, just in case if this is the issue related to browser. If this doesn't solve your problem and if you're getting maintenance mode message then - move '.maintenance' file from root directory to another directory and see if you can login to the site.
Most of the time conflicting plugins cause this type of issue so always upgrade plugins first before upgrading wordpress core.
Yey - the web host has fixed it for me - they are great.
