I am trying to raise funds to fund a start-up non profit, Dollars of Hope. I was thinking about putting my adsense on the domain to help raise money.

Sure, why not. Just don't say anything like "if you want to help please click a few ads you see". That is against adsense TOS.
I would recommend adding a PayPal donation button. Some add those to any site they have.
