Can you remember the first time you saw someone using a cell phone and what your impression was?
The first time I saw someone using a cell phone, they were still called cellular phones and came in a portable box the size of a shoe box - complete with a cord attaching the receiver to the portable box! It looked something like this:
I was the first person I personally ever saw with a cellphone - I was approached to trial it and mine was similar to this photo, although I remember that the battery was bigger. My business was all over the country and this was marketed as a car phone (that only worked in a few cities and popular stretches of motorway) that I could unplug and take with me. When I had on-site meetings I had to take someone with me to carry the phone ! However, being pretty much instantly available with call-forwarding from my office land-line phone, it paid for itself in instant emergency contract work in the first week I had it.
