I know changing your subdomain is not possible...but could it be possible in the future? Even edit the subdomain for each hub? Or have many different subdomains to chose from like categories. I'm not sure if that is the opposite direction of what hubpages is going for but I think it would be really good for getting higher ranking in google.
Creating a separate hubpages ID for each writing niche will, in effect, give you a distinctive subdomain for each category. Choose your ID names carefully for maximum SEO benefit.
