Most online accounts or online writing platforms have an inbox or mailbox where messages can be left for the person. Instead of sending emails to a person's personal email account, messages from other hubbers can be left in the inbox/mailbox.
This has been discussed previously and I believe the general consensus is that many people are here to write, and are not interested so much in the social side - especially those hubbers who have specifically turned off their contact links because they get so many newbies asking them for advice on how to "get rich".
Then again, with the steps the site has taken over the last few months (such as a feed similar to FB), who knows what is in the workings.
