Cookies and Adsense ads

This may just be a fluke or happenstance, but I noticed by chance that when I published a hub right after another hub that the adsense ads were attuned to the previous hubs theme.

I decided to test a theory I had that maybe the adsense ads are reading some sort of cookie (like yahoo does when they serve ads in your email, reading cookies from other sites they work with and adsense owns now doubleclick I believe).

What i did was cleared cookies right after publishing the hub, which also signed me out of HP, I signed back in and went back to that hub refreshed the page and noticed my ads were now matching the hub.

Again I don't know if this is just chance or not but try clearing cookies when you publish a hub and see what happens with your ads. I'd be interested to see what others experience here.

My theory is that the ads not syncing up may possibly be a local thing as well as a time released thing.

I'm sure they have to crawl the page before ads will match up- but even if they just happen to do it right away you may not see them because the ads may be based partially on cookies on your computer i.e. personalizing the adsense etc...

Absolutely cookies will matter.  Adsense will always try to match the ad to your history if you let it.  There is a setting to disable this in adsense.

I think Hubpages has Adsense set to serve readers Ads based on what they previously viewed, I'm not sure of the term for this option but I get it all the time.

Yes, Adsense has been doing this for awhile.

If you've been looking at adverts for holidays then visit a site about tea kettles, you'll likely see holiday adverts!

That's why it's often difficult to aim Adsense at particular keywords, since often the adverts are aimed at history, not actual current content.
