I've heard this term floating around Hubpages, especially on the forums. What exactly is a Sockpuppet on here?

Oh! So it's basically someone that has made a second account to promote their first and main one?

Sometimes. But more often the anonymity is used to abuse HP and other Hubbers in the forums.

Sockpuppet's do not exist. You can either play your main character or you can logoff your main and log in on an alternate character and play your alt for a while...

I'm pretty sure that sometimes there are sockpuppets that have sockpuppets.

if these so called sockpuppets really do exist, they could never have sockpuppets of their own because socks do not have appendages upon which a sockpuppet can be planted.

Your hand looks like it's raring for a sockpuppet, don't you think?  lol

Or, are you just displaying a friendly pageant wave?

I think sockpuppets are distinctly created to cause mischief and make comments that the actual "puppeteer" would not normally make as him/herself.  So they are destructive usually.  That's my definition.  If you have to use another alternative identity to say something, why? isn't it because you don't want to damage your own reputation?  So they are not a good thing even if they do no actual harm.  If you want to be funny, I have found that you can be yourself and be funny - without being scandalous or mean.

I should probably add that most folks aren't fans of sockpuppets, because of the aforementioned mischief. smile
