    What is social bookmarking?  How does it function to increase back links?

      I assume you understand about backlinks.  One of the ways Google judges the value of your Hub is by looking at how many other sites link to it.  So having links TO your Hub from many other sites is a good thing.

      Social bookmarking is posting links to your Hub on social bookmarking sites like Digg, Stumbleupon, Reddit etc.

      These sites were originally designed for members to recommend their favorite sites on the internet to each other.  However,many of them have degenerated into places where website owners and writers shamelessly promote their own work. Google knows that, and therefore gives a much lower value to links from social bookmarking sites and directories these days.

      So while they still count for something, they're probably not worth spending a lot of time on.
