I am new to Hub Pages and would like to know if you can use images from Allposters in your hubs. They have an affiliate program and give an HTML code to the image. However, the photo capsule on HubPages does not seem to accept HTML code. I have searched for hubs/questions on this and have read conflicting information. If you can use them, how do you do it?
No, you can't use HTML in your hubs to post banners or links from allposters.
Here's how to use Allposters:
In the photo capsule, "Import" the picture of the poster (not the HTML version, go to the page for that product and copy image location for that poster).
If you look at the HTML code for the image, you'll find the URL with your affiliate link in it (it will probably be a very long string!). Copy just the URL and paste it into "Source URL".
In "Name of Source", type "Allposters.com"
Save and you should now have an image with Source: Allposters.com (hyperlinked) under it.
I think Allposters.com have very strict rules about how you must use their links.
I don't think so.
This is from their FAQ:
How many different ways can I link to AllPosters.com?
You can link to AllPosters.com with product links, dynamic poster stores, logos, search boxes, banners, and text links.
Are there a certain number or types of links that I must place on my Website?
No. It is completely up to you in regards to the amount and types of links you choose to display.
The "Source" box is just a text link.
Sorry if I have done something wrong. I wasn't intending to do a "spam" post - I'm not even sure what they are. I read an article on the web about free images and it said that you can use pics free from Allposters. I visited the site and learnt you have to join their affiliate program in order to use their images. Many of the public domain photos on Wikimedia Commons are necessarily extremely old - if you wanted to use a picture from a recent movie, for instance, you can't normally - I just thought that would be one way of doing it. I haven't even posted any hubs yet, I'm just researching to find out what you can do and can't do.
"I haven't even posted any hubs yet, I'm just researching to find out what you can do and can't do." I am saying this with all intentions to help, not be sarcastic.
A visit to the Learning Center (click at the bottom of this page) will answer all your questions. That is the place to start when a Hubber needs information. The information there is correct and you can read and learn at your leisure. I hope this helps you.
I'm not trying to be sarcastc either; I think the OP came to the right place and asked a good question. I don't think there is anything in the learning center about how to use an allposters affiliate account on hubpages. I had never heard of this before. I for one am glad to hear that it is possible and just might try it. Thanks for the question, Mazzy, and for the helpful answer, Marisa.
No,there isn't, because HubPages doesn't encourage you to use affiliate programs outside HP - because they don't get a share!
It's often thought you can't use affiliate links on HP, but that's not the case. Affiliate links are fine as long as you join reputable companies. Unfortunately HubPages doesn't publish a list of the companies they regard as "respectable", but it's pretty easy to find out - if you join a company and try to create a link on a Hub, you'll get a "prohibited link" warning when you try to publish! I know Clickbank is prohibited.
Of course you can't use any of the banners, you just have to use text links. All Posters is a bit different because they're actually selling the image, and therefore having the "source" underneath works.
Welcome to HubPages Mazzy there are other sites that offer free images. It would be nice to monetize them since 'image' searches do get done. I think it's great you are doing the research prior to 'launch' use the search bar at top right and you will find a treasure full of information in Hubs or Q & A
Thanks so much for all your help. Thanks especially, Marisa, I will give that a try and see if I can do it.

I am reading more and more Hubs where there are beautiful photos, but NO attribution to them. I just read one that clearly has a watermark of the person holding the copyright. When you look at the photos, it is clear they were taken by a professional photographer. What are your thoughts...

Once you've researched, drafted, edited, proofed... and before you've published your hub, you should think about a few things you could do to do it justice and add some extra appeal to it.1) Photo or Illustration? I like at LEAST one image. That way when it comes up in the hub search results it has...

Authoring Hubs is about sharing and spreading ideas. Most of what we do is word-based, and a capsule to show off related Zazzle stuff would be an eye-catching way to allow readers interested in those ideas to buy products which celebrate them, such as relevant designs, graphics, statements,...

I know traffic is a problem everywhere it seems; I'm not talking about low traffic, here. We all need to be aware of the HP's photo capsule may be affecting our bounce rates. There is a real problem if you use the photo capsule for anything-- even the intro photo. I'm NOT referring to the images...
