I hope your loved ones are safe. It is a terrible stress to be away from your homeland when you know others who may be suffering.  May peace prevail to push back the hate and violence.
Very sorry to hear of this attack.

    Marian/Rodney/dingdong,

There is a hot line open for all those who are yet to hear a word about the safety of their friends/family members. Not sure of the intentions of these attackers.  Heard they have taken some hostages in the hotel and want some terrorists to be freed. But as Rodney prayed we need "tolerance, peace and sanity for all countries". Amen.

Sadly India lost a Anti-Terrorist Officer - Ashok Kamte - who was an excellent negotiator and was killed during the open firing when he tried to rescue another Inspector who was being hijacked by the terrorists.

Kamte, a 1989 batch IPS officer of Maharashtra cadre, who died fighting terrorists near Mumbai's Metro cinema, was one of the brightest of his batch, and one of the few officers who dared to take on challenges directly.

My thoughts are with all who have lost loved ones and with all the people who were nearby who somehow lost the feeling of security in just plain life... How is one to function in an environment that is filled with terror such as this. When you look at a loved one and do not want to let them out of your sight for terror that you will never see them again. What horrific act one human can do to another.
I'm so so very sad for all of you, wishing from the deepest of my heart that you may soon find peace again
    kindest regards Zsuzsy

Zsuzsy - Yes indeed it is shocking how low one human being can get against another human being. We may sometimes be worse than animals who only kill for food but we harm each other mindlessly. With prayers and best wishes from souls like you still there is hope. Life will go on and soon hopefully things will be back to normal.

ooops sorry-- it was a biblical reference to the story of Cain and Abel. The book of Genesis tells how Cain murdered his brother Abel and when God asked him( knowing that Cain had murdered his brother) "where is your brother/"  Cain replied " Am I my brother's keeper?"
I guess I meant to say:  Violence is as old as humankind--but at the same time we are all brothers and sisters and children of the same God.  I am so sorry about what is going on in Mumbai and I pray that it will end soon.

CW,yes we are sitting here shell shocked, unable to comprehend the madness. In the days to come the detailed stories of horror and tragedy will unfold..I shudder to think of all the trauma people have to go through for no reason.I just read that 2 terrorists ran up to the maternity wards on the 4th and 5th floors of Cama Hospital where 25 women with their babies and 3 men locked themselves from inside and refused to open in spite of threats from the terrorists. Then the terrorists went up to the terrace of the hospital & killed 3 police men.Shocking! Imagine targeting women in maternity wards! Is there a more base mentality?Yes we do have to pray for peace for our country and for whole world as well !

    1. countrywomen profile image60
countrywomenposted 15 years agoin reply to this

Laila- That is the worst crime a mother with new born baby being targeted by those terrorists. I remember in Mahabharat Uttara praying to Lord Krishna to protect unborn parikshit from the brahmastra. I pray to the same Lord Krishna to protect those women and babies from these terrorists.

ajcorposted 15 years agoin reply to this

I don't think I have ever heard of anything as bad as this!! Mothers and newly born babies - how brave were they all -   we have been seeing on the news reports about all those local people going about their business being mowed down; plus young Australians who although they have escaped being shot! - are still terrified in Moombai - please God they get out - but the big unanswered question is why and who are these terrorists? - I guess once again it is religious based? will the world ever have the pleasure of enjoying peace in our times...

      1. countrywomen profile image60
countrywomenposted 15 years agoin reply to this

        Ajcor,
I myself was shocked and no brand of religion advocates such a treatment against new born babies and mothers in the maternity wards. But having said that I feel these people who commit such acts do a great disservice to the very religion for which they claim to lay their lives for. May God give strength to those woman to be brave in these difficult times. We all can only pray and hope things return back to normalcy.

          CW
Sorry if you misunderstood me - I didn't think that any religion could ever advocate such a thing - it would have to be people going off on a tangent and doing their own thing in the name of whatever!  re. the bravery although looking back I see I didn't specify I was also referring to the 3 brave men who helped them (employees/parents?) ..... Prayers are good CW thanks

Now all that the ordinary citizens can do is wait for the miracles to happen.

Thank you for your words Laila - TG it seems to have come to an end now - and the terrorists subdued - my twin brother has been to Moombai a few times in the last couple of years and he loves your country- wants me to go see for myself. I really hope that you all make a quick recovery ....

Ajcor- While the vast majority of 200 plus dead victims were Indians, at least 22 foreigners are known to have died, including victims from Israel, Germany, Japan, Canada, Australia, Italy, Singapore, Thailand and France. One Briton, Andreas Liveras, was also killed.

Now that this madness is over and I echo your sentiments that I hope we all make a quick recovery.

The audacity of this attack is unbelievable. So cold, callous and destructive. It makes me so sad that people's hearts could ever be filled with so much hate. My prayers are with those affected directly by the attacks and hostage-taking, as well as the wider impact of basically closing down the financial center of India. This time, I hope the good guys get it right and go after and PROSECUTE the perpetrators.

MM- These are tough times but I still hope it doesn't fill the hearts of majority of the people against ordinary innocent muslims who have nothing to do with these violent acts. Usually these people before they are caught commit suicide hence not much prosecution takes place.

9 foreign tourists were killed in the incident( including 1 british citizen or more) and the terrorists were aiming British citizens and US citizens who were at hotels in Mumbai.  US , Britain and other European countries are planning to take back their citizens from India, to avoid more loses. This will have an adverse effect on the Tourism in India.

    1. countrywomen profile image60
countrywomenposted 15 years agoin reply to this

Shinu- Yes I heard they were targetting US&UK tourists in exchange for release of the terrorists as that would put further pressure from these governments on India. It not only affects tourism but also affects business. It will take a while to regain the confidence. May God bless all those who are affected and their families.

There are many unofficial news that this attack was planned by Somalian pirates, who did this as a revenge for Indian Navy Attacking and destroying one of their Ships.

Offficial explanation says that Pakistan is behind the attack. This could mean out broke of another war between the two countries, just like what is happening between LTTE and Srilankan Army.

Both India and Pakistan are Nuclear Powers , That means ................

We all need to stick together against this idea of achieving "any good" through these bad  violent means which these terrorists seem to entertain.
