I think the problem lays in how you're attempting to post the link on Facebook and actually has nothing to do with HubPages.
Having said that- There are two ways in which to share a hub on Facebook.
(a)You click on the share section on the hub and then click Facebook. This will have a pop up window and grant you the option of what you want to say on Facebook and where you want to place it on Facebook. You can change the "avatar"/"picture" at this time also.
(b) You go to the bottom of the page and copy & paste the "link to this page" option, which is also available now in your share section as well. Once you paste the link into your Facebook page as a post, it might or might not come up with a picture and that's because of Facebook, not HubPages.

Some hubs don't show a thumbnail (my hubs don't) when posting to facebook, but some do.I don't know if Facebook is unable to recognize a photo on certain hub accounts or what, but I thought I'd let you know.
