When I tried to do my hub and load nice images, it slowed the process down and lowered my hubscore which was automatically saved incomplete. When it was finally published, it became lower than I expected for all the effort I put in to get images. I wonder what happened.
A faster way to upload images to your hub is to upload images to your album here on HP first, then upload from the HP server into your actual hub. I do this often and the time saved is very noticeable.
To do this simply go to "your account" under your name up there at the top, then click on photos at the top of the page, once there you will see the option, in the left hand column to "upload". You click that and upload your photos. Later, when you are ready to publish a hub, you will use the option to use photos from your album in the hub.

I've noticed yesterday and again today that pictures are not showing up on hubs. I'm in the middle of writing a hub myself and the picture just keeps saying loading.
