11 Statements That Transformed My Life

By Tony DeLorger © 2013

In life all we can do is do our best. We all have different circumstances, different environments and different challenges, and if nothing else, life teaches us we need to learn. This comes from our experiences and how we respond to life's ups and downs. The following 11 statements have influenced my life greatly and I share them with you.

1/ Happiness is not the result of anything, simply a decision.

2/ Morality is a pliable and ever-changing paradigm used by people as justification for their own behaviour. In reality it represents the bounds of our own acceptance of behaviour, allowing us to be guilt free and to be able to sleep at night. What those bounds are is purely individual.

3/ Sex has never been, nor will ever be love. The two are very separate concepts in both intention and action. Sex can be an expression of love, but love itself has no physicality.

4/ When someone shows you who they are, believe them. Human beings have a penchant for disregarding the truth for the preservation of ego.

5/ The most profound movement in life often comes from the ability to be serenely still. Objectivity is so often unused in endeavours driven by want and need. In stillness, truth reveals itself.

6/ The past is the key to who we have become, and how we think and act now, delivers us to our future. Be careful what you think.

7/ Thought has power and substance, and honing our skills to think clearly and decisively delivers what we want into our lives much quicker.

8/ Any dogma, whether it be religious, political or philosophical can only ever be a stepping stone to truth. Knowledge can only be understood with an open mind, ready to consider alternatives and further understanding rather than limitations.

9/ God can never be vengeful or malevolent. Any belief that suggest that, belies the concept of Omniscience.

10/ Life is a journey of learning. What appears good or bad to us comes from our judgement. Experiences and a hopeful understanding of them is all we can achieve. Sharing the journey with those whom we love is our greatest triumph.

11/ LOVE has always been the answer, but in order to experience it, we must learn sacrifice and to put someone else before us. Selflessness in love allows it to blossom.

Thanks Colin, kind words indeed. Music is a tough one- I like everything from Vivaldi to Metallica and Dream Theater. I studied classical and jazz guitar in my youth and those threads are evident in the music I like. My son is a musician and guitarist and I follow his undulating interests. I guess I'm a muzo's muzo and love technically interesting music in most genres. Films: I watch so many and like different aspects of them. Favourites in the modern era: Fargo, Chocolat, Requium for a Dream, The Call, American Beauty, Anna Karenina, the latest Gatsby and on. I even like a lot of latest action films because of the technical accomplishments. I have broad taste and like a lot of different genres of film, as well as foreign film. Have a great day.

Actually I think this is better than the over-rated and 'never' paid attention to anyway - lol - Ten Commandments ..... because it's modern and updated and most importantly it comes from your own beautiful heart and probing mind - I will enlighten the masses on FB with your words of wisdom with a share and a link .

Any particular films that are your favorites or favorite albums or musicians?

Sociasl Eyes, just to add... I think that morality is more a personal thing. The laws of society may be based on Morality, yet there is a difference between Law and Personal Morality, a subtlety that is ours to determine alone, and to action in response.

Well put but would just like to add that Morality is the axis on which civilization revolves, it's the tool to keep anarchy, rampant individualism in check.
