6 Steps to a more Positive you

Have you ever wished you were more positive? Do you have a pattern of negative thinking? Has being negative hurt you and your relationships? No matter who you are, there will be times in your life that you are unhappy or sad.

The difference between someone who has occasional bought with sadness and someone who is always down is the way the person thinks. Many develop negative thinking from childhood. If you were raised in a negative home, you may have unwilling learned to see things differently.

Thoughts affect emotions, so if you can change the way you think, you can become a more positive person. With help our thinking patterns can be changed and improved, with help.

Smiling makes you feel better

The Power of a Smile

Have you ever heard that it takes more facial muscles to frown, than to smile? Frowning, actually affects how your feel. The moment you smile, you begin to feel better.

A smile can positively affect your mood. I am not saying walk around all day with a smile on your face like some idiot, but be more conscious of what your face is portraying to others.

Consciously practice smiling, even when you don’t feel like it. You will immediately feel a lift in your spirits and attitude.

A smile also is no-verbally communicates that you are a warm and inviting person. A smile will draw people to you, but a frown will make be want to run from you. Smile more!

How to Negative People Affect you?

  • I try to stay away from them, they drain my energy
  • I try to encourage them to see the positive
  • I am one; but want to do better

Master your Thoughts

Watch what you are thinking! Do not allow your thoughts to control you, but rather control your thoughts and you will be a happier person. Negative thoughts are like ghosts that won’t let you live in peace. Exercise the demons and it will change your life.

Forgiving is a part of mastering your thoughts. When you learn to master your thoughts, you will be able to forgive easier and thus become more positive.

As soon as you catch yourself thinking something negative, self-defeating or depressing; stop it immediately and say out loud something contrary to what you are thinking. Always replace a negative thought with positive words.

Thoughts are words internalized and these positive words eventually become new thoughts. Learn to verbally replace negative thought with powerful, positive words.

There are so many wonderful books and audio resources that can help you become a happier person. There is a powerful books like, The Law of Attraction, the Secret and As a Man Thinketh, by James Allen, which talks about the power of intentional right thought.

Find some resource that will help you on your journey of becoming a more positive person. Create your own affirmations or scripture verses that address your situation and repeat them over and over until they become your reality.

Gratitude Thinking

Every day take time to dwell on your blessings. Be grateful for the good things that have happened in your life. Be grateful for all that you have. Are you living?

Do you have a roof over your head? Do you eat every day? These are basic things you can be grateful for every day.

When you are grateful for what you have, this will open the door for more good things to come into your life.

Break Negative Patterns

If you come from a negative family, there are some negative patterns that need to be broken. Ask a good friend to stop you, each time you say something negative, self-defeating or depressing.

Believe me they have been dying to say something any way, they will be glad to help you out. Stopping you in the middle of a negative statement will help you to see how often your do it and help you to later catch yourself when you are alone.  It is your job to develop the power of positive habits.

Getting help from a mental health professional is nothing to be ashamed of. Positive psychology can help to give you the life skill you need to change your negative focus.

Coaching is a form of positive psychology and there are often self-help conferences where you can also get tools that will help you.

It a few months of counseling can change your life for the better, it is really worth it. Most people can not afford to pay $150 an hour to get help. The department of health in your town also has resources for those seeking help according to your income.

Be Patient

You have heard the saying; "Rome was not built in a day." Well, neither was your negative attitude. This attitude was developed day by day, month by month and year by year. It will take time for old patterns to fall away and new patterns to be established. Work on it daily and keep a diary to monitor yourprogress. If you have a true desire for change, it will surely happen.

Very good points indeed. As you say, being a positive person is very much a matter of perspective. Therefore, I would like to add that one should stop to give to much attention to negative news that are so dominant. Instead focus on positive, on truly brightnews.

As you mentioned find resources for change and possitive attitude!!!. I would like add about joining groups who have possitive outlook and attending conferances that boost up a person mentally. Staying among those people for some time really helps you in your outlook for future...

and smiling is a wonderful and also a fashionable expression to yourself and to people arround you. It makes you look even attractive and indicates the people arround that you like them.:-)

Really nice and uplifting information. I was watching wife swap the other night and one wife was living her life using this concept and the other wife couldn't handle it. Although I thought the positive wife went a little bit overboard at times, she definitely had a better life than the negative woman. Nice job.
