Fun Mathematical Activity for Elementary Students (grades 3 to 5)

Here is a really fun mathematical activity for elementary students. It is most appropriate for grades 3 to 5; however, it would also be appropriate for any grade student who wants and needs to improve his or her multiplication facts and short division skills. I like to call them Math Lollipops because you are going to work the problem down and then back up again - just like you might lick a lollipop.

The way this works is that you can take any number whatsoever. You will multiply that number by 2, mulitple that product by 3, multiply that product by 4, multiply that product by 5, multiply that product by 6, multiply that product by 7, multiply that product by 8, and multiply that product by 9.

Then you take that final product. Now you are going to work the process backward using short division. You will divide that final product by 2, divide that divisor by 3, divide that divisor by 4, divide that divisor by 5, divide that divisor by 6, divide that divisor by 7, divide that divisor by 8, and divide that final divisor by 9.

Drum roll, please. It's magic. You have found your way back to your original number again.
