California Unemployment Third Extension Info

3.24.12 UPDATE:

The main purpose of this page was to serve as a means for the unemployed to discuss their experiences and share advice. The most helpful info will be found by reading below from all of the user comments who have shared their experiences. Much info may be outdated, some may not but it is all below.

Answers to some common questions:

What happens if I send my claim form in late? Will I still get a check??

It depends how late you wait to send your check. Do not wait over a week or you most likely have to file an appeal as to why you did not send your claim forms in. Once I was late over a month because I had moved and did not receive my mail. I filed an appeal and had to go through a phone interview after which I was approved again. I soon started receiving checks again.

What If I have a change of address? Will there be a delay in my checks??

No, there should not be. From my experience every time I moved, I just filled out the change of address on the back of the claim form and all of my checks came on time. Believe me i was stressed out though until i got the checks. but the EDD was good about this.

I am past my first extension, will my second one be automatically filed? Or third for that matter?

Always call to check to see the status of your extension to see if they have it on file or if you need to reapply online.. One of mine was automatically applied for and the other two I had to reapply online. Once there was a 3 month gap between checks.. so keep calling even though the lines are busy and find out about your claim. Sometimes you may need to speak to two or three different representatives to get the correct info regarding your claim. I know.. frustrating.

Do you get taxes back from Unemployment Benefits?

Yes, you will receive taxes back as long as you check to withhold the taxes on your claim forms! This helped me a lot as I got around $800 back.

For those applying for the 3rd Extension of Unemployment Benefits, apply at the EDD website as you did when you first did for Unemployment. The application process is the same. Please do not assume that it will automatically be filed for you.

Good work, Christine and everyone else.

Mark, I followed kickinit's advice last evening and went ahead and filed a claim because I believe it MAYBE can't hurt. However, I did not have to file for the other extensions; EDD UI filed for me, and I'm presuming this was the case for most everyone else here.

In the end, the real issue isn't filing a claim--the issues are receiving our claim forms and commencing receipt of cheddar to pay the bills.

I also faxed a second letter to the Governors office and sent a copy to Senator Dean Florez (D). Florez made a statement to the Sacramento Bee regarding the inefficiency of EDD on March 28, 2009. You can fax Senator Dean Florez at (916) 327-5989 (559) 445-6506 (661) 395-2622. Your letters will provide him with more evidence he was correct in his opinion of EDD and the current Director Patrick Henning.

I called Patrick Henning's office and spoke with Angelique for second time. This time I requested a call back from Mr. Henning personally. She is not a friendly person and is down right rude. Of course this is because "she is not a politician". Little does she know she has the attitude of one! I doubt I will get a call but I have documented her statements and forwarded them to the Governors office and Senator Florez in addition to the Andrew McIntosh of the Sacramento Bee.

Thank you for creating a new hub of information. If we continue to put pressure on everyone I think we will get somewhere. Until then we must band together if we want change to come about. Obama is not the only one who uses "change" as a platform.

Thanks everyone!

Yvonee what's the url for your blog, that is if it's public?

I spoke with Amie with the office of Senator Dean Florez. She confirmed reciept of my faxed letter to his office which is the same letter sent to the Governors office. It is important Senator Florez knows nothing has changed with EDD. In his statements durng a hearing on this matter and also published in the Sacramento Bee on 3/27/09 he wants to hear from the unemployed. He clearly understands when he stated to Patrick Henning-Director of EDD the following "people are simply trying to get their UI benefit money for their next mortgage payment, "Taxpayers derserve some answers". Clearly we are not getting anymore answers than we got back in March.

There is a second hearing coming up on EDD to determine what has changed, if anything. Patrick Henning will be on the hot seat over this one along with his sidekick Doug Hoffner-Acting Labor and Workforce Development Secretary. They both denied EDD was unprepared.

I think this situation is evidence they remain unprepared at our expense.

Anything to help us get relief and hopefully we all get back to work and get off this roller coaster ride.

How do your spell relief....JOBS

Yvonne is correct in that the issue is about getting the claim forms on this third extension and a check shortly after we return them.

According to EDD those going into the first and second extension are fine as they are programmed to handle them and are automoatically extended. The third extension has yet to be programed which means it is not capable of extending from the second to the third extension which has resulted in this mess. If you can program for two extensions wouldn't you think the third would be a snap since you've done it twice before

Florez slams failure to get benefits to unemployed

Majority Leader tells Governor to declare emergency and use those powers to speed aid

SACRAMENTO – After listening to hours of Senate testimony on how the crisis at the Employment Development Department is keeping California’s unemployed from obtaining their unemployment insurance benefits in a timely manner, Senate Majority Leader Dean Florez (D-Shafter) has called on Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger to declare an economic emergency and use his powers to aid the state’s job seekers.

In a letter today, Florez called the inability of job seekers to access funds from the safety net they worked for years believing would be there if they needed it “the single largest failure of government that I have encountered during my tenure in the legislature.”

Florez noted that, while the Governor declared a fiscal emergency in January and December of 2008 and unemployment was steadily on the rise for eleven months, Schwarzenegger did not take advantage of his emergency powers under that declaration to help EDD prepare for the onslaught which was imminent.

Further frustrating Florez, testimony at last week’s hearing indicated computer and call center issues have gone unresolved despite an influx of federal funds seven years ago.

Florez is urging Schwarzenegger to take corrective action before more Californians go without meals, destroy their credit or even lose their homes due to the state’s failure to pay them benefits they are due. He asks that the Governor use his emergency powers to redirect state government staff to EDD, reevaluate job requirements to facilitate hiring, authorize overtime or flex hours and accelerate needed upgrades to EDD’s computer system and call center.

In his letter, Florez also reiterates his disbelief that the Acting Secretary of Labor refused multiple requests to testify before the Senate regarding the failures at his department. Florez promised future hearings to follow up on progress made at EDD.

Attached is a copy of today’s letter from Florez to Governor Schwarzenegger.

Yvonne 7 years ago

Danielle, there it is, I hope. Thanks for asking.

Christine, yes, to you and me it would logically follow that if they've already got all the info in the mainframe from the previous extensions, it should have taken a minimum amount of work (perhaps only allocating federal funding once received, since the 3rd ext is wholly paid by the Feds).

Clearly, the Peter Principle is alive and well at California EDD: "In a hierarchy, every employee tends to rise to their level of incompetence."

Christine 7 years ago

I am waiting for a call back to obtain the date of the next hearing being held in Sacramento regarding the situation with EDD. The Governor and the Director of EDD were put on notice back in April. Here are two letters from Senator Dean Florez to the Governor and to Mr. Hoffner (Hoffner refused to attend and testify in the last hearing). What does he have to hide? This was just last month and after the third extension was approved. They were well aware what was expected of them

April 7, 2009Honorable Arnold SchwarzeneggerGovernor of the State of CaliforniaState Capitol, First FloorSacramento, CA 95814Re; Request for Economic Emergency Declaration to Facilitate Unemployment Claims Dear Governor Schwarzenegger:Last week, the Senate Committee on Labor and the Senate Select Committee on Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Response held a joint hearing to review the handling of the record number of unemployment claims that are being submitted to the Employment Development Department (“EDO”). This hearing raised significant concerns regarding your administration’s handling of this grave situation. For more than a year it was reported that newly unemployed individuals were having difficulty navigating through the EDD’s inadequate telephone system to contact a service representative in order to file a claim or receive infolulation about their claim, I, along with many other members of the Legislature, have received countless complaints about the inadequacy of the EDD claims process. There is no doubt that this is the largest single failure of government that I have encountered during my tenure in the legislature, Across this state, thousands of Californians who have lost their jobs are tujijing to their government for help in their darkest hour. Unfortunately for them, EDD seems to be operating without a coherent plan to even pick up the phone when they call for help. This is unconscionable, for many Californians who are struggling economically and need the lifeline of an unemployment check,Furthermore, the testimony provided at the hearing by the EDO director clearly demonstrated the direness of the situation at EDD. Despite the fact that California, and the U.S., has seen a steady rise in unemployment for the past eleven months, testimony provided at the hearing made it apparent that your administration had no plan to handle the increased unemployment claims that were imminent.During 2008, you declared a fiscal State of emerge,.cy in the months of January and December. Despite the broad powers granted to the Governor during a state of emergency, assistance to unemployed workers in either of these declarations was missing or never acted upon. I urge you to utilize your emergency powers immediately to provide the EDD the necessary staffing and resources in order to provide the people Of California with the level of government service that they deserve. Government has — moral obligation to make good on services We h ave promised the citizens of Califoinja.Throughout the hearing, the Committees uncovered a number Of issue areas that require your attention and could be immediately addressed using your emergency powers to speed the delivery of seices to unemployed Californians needing such relief. An emergency declaration should focus on the followin1. Immediate redirection of staff from throughout State govenmient to answer incoming calls at the EDD call center. The State of Cali.fbrnia manages a number of Call centers. including, for example, the DMV call center. Staff from these call Centers and other appropriately skilled state employees should be redirected to assist the EDO call center during this emergency. This can nclude offering State call Center employees overtime and flex schedule hours to assist the EDO call Center during this crisis period.2. Suspend certain hiring requirements to facilitate the immediate hiring of qualified call Center staff. The State Auditor in 2001. noted that EDO should reevaluate the minimum qualifications for call Center positions, given that at the time, candidates entering the workforCe were required to have a four-year college degree.3, Hire sufficient EDO staff based upon the State’s jobless rate or other appropriate metric. This could include hiring seasonal and temporary employees.4, Assemble the necessary staff to accelerate EDO call Center and computer upgrades, making it a top priority for your administration. In 2002, the State of California received over $61 million dollars in federal funds to improve call center and Computer Systems at the EDO. These funds have yet to be fully expended and unemployed Californians have yet to receive sufficient benefit -ram these funds.S. Place the phone center upgrade project on a fast track. During the hearing, the Committees Were infot,..ned that a minimum 6-months of development time Could be eliminated if Verizon, the state vendor in this instance, received official confiuination from your administration that this project was a state priority.6. Authorize overtime and flexible schedules to increase tours of operation for EDO call centers, including weekend and evening hours.7. Fo.u nalize the call center working group associated with SF10 and act upon appropriate suggestions to improve Services.S. Make the answering of incoming telephone calls the top priority, With the goal of having all telephone lines at the EDO call center staffed during all flours of operations, During the hearing, the Committees discovered that call center operators, in general, spend no more than half their time actually answering calls. The balance of the operator’s time is spent processing paperwork associated with case management efforts. This is unacceptable. Instead, the goal should be to have 100% of the phone lines staffed 100% of the hours of operation.9. Revise emergency preparedness plans to anticipate and define specific actions to take in light of’ increased call center work load during situations such as we face today.10. Waive all waiting periods for the issuance of unemployment insurance benefits, This is necessary and appropriate given that many newly unemployed individuals have not been successfully able even access the EDD to apply for unemployment benefits. Your administration has established a precedent for such actions, For example, in 2007, you issued an executive order to waive the one-week waiting period for Unemployment Insurance benefits for California workers who lost their jobs because of the Angora Fire. Similar provisions should be enacted here.1 1. Immediately implement that recommendations of the California Performance Review which required call centers to, among other things: establish customer service standards, including measuring perfoi’i,ance and customer satisfaction; create a written compact with customers; have a customer service coordinator who will be responsible for the department’s customer service program; establish customer service standards; benchmark and measure customer service performance; compile customer survey results; report survey results; and report progress on improvements.12. Have EDD personnel available at all local “One Stop Employment” locations to meet with and assist individuals applying for unemployment.13. Provide for electronic notification to applicants utilizing the online process when such applications are incomplete or otherwise insufficient. Please note that the Senate intends to conduct further oversight hearings on this issue in the coming months to review the steps taken, if any, by the administration to address this dire situation. Such oversight is especially warranted given that the Acting Secretary of Labor declined to participate in last week’s hewing, despite repeated requests from the Senate. The Acting Labor Secretary’s. astounding absence certainly shook our confidence in your administration’s handling of the unemployment claims fiasco. The Acting Secretary of Labor should be prepared to address the Senate on these important matters in future hearings and I look forward to his testimony on this

SENATOR DEAN FLOREZSENATE MAJORITY LEADERSTATE CAPITOLMarch 31, 2009Douglas Hoffner, Acting SecretaryCalifornia Labor & Workforce Development Agency801 K Street, Suite 2101Sacramento, CA 95814Dear Mr. Hofmer:Your refusal to attend tomorrow’s joint hearing of the Senate Labor and IndustrialRelations Committee and the Senate Select Committee on Disaster and EmergencyResponse is unacceptable and can be viewed as an afront to the oversight powers of theSenate as an institution of government. As Acting Secretary, both committees simply want to understand how the Department you oversee is handling the increasing requests for unemployment insurance- California has the highest unemployment rate in the nation. This is a time of crisis for California’s workers. Recent media accounts and constituent complaints indicate your Department has experienced great difficulty assisting Californians when they are most in need.I understand you are “out of the area” on Wednesday, However, I find your inability to attend a Senate hearing to ensure services for unemployed Californians objectionable, given that it is your responsibility to administer this program. I fear that our inability to get answers to our questions is similar to the experience of Califoi”ians contacting the Employment Development Department — no response. I strongly urge you to reconsider your reffisal to attend tomorrow’s hearing.Sincerely,DEAN FLOREZSenate Majority458 ATLANTIc AVENUE, SHAFTER, CALIFORNIA 93263EMAIL; 5ENAr0RDEANFLoREz@AHo0.c0M • PHONE: (681) 746-4600 • FAX; (681) 746-4776Cc: General Public

This Angelique sounds like a real peace of shit ! That ignorant B**** , I like to take her out back and put her down like a horse .All these higher up bastards (Arnold, Patrick Henning ,Doug Hoffner ) should be fired ! Let them deal with the EDD office, they can't run, from our perspective !God this makes me angry ! People from EDD are even lieing to people .They are saying to people , "You've already used your third Fed-Ed stimulus , through your second stimulus , They were combined " ?What a load of crap !I didn't even receive a letter notifying me of my status yet ! That's how I know their full of it , just trying to get rid of you like your nobody !

Jim 7 years ago

I tried to call Dean Florezes office . It's said, "The number is no longer in service" .I think he's doing a good job getting at the bottom of this ridicules crap the higher ups at the EDD office are putting on people (He has my vote when running for reelection )! I can't fax him because I can't afford a fax machine .However, I am going to mail him my complaints about the lies and unproffesionalism of the EDD staff ! You better believe it !

Christine 7 years ago

Jim,

I think I have located enough evidence that EDD was put on notice as early as March 2009 byt Senate Committee. The two letters above are clear Senator Florez was calling them on the carpet for this. I urge you and everyone to make contact with Senator Florez. His office wants to hear from us as there is another hearing coming up. I urge you to call and speak to Amy in the Senator's office. Believe me...he wants the ammo to use against them. He is mad as hell and a voice we desperately need.

As for Angelique..her day is coming. She made a huge miscalculation when she hung up the phone when asked a simple question.

Years ago there was a Soap show called Dark Shadows and woman named Angelique played a witch. I wonder if she is related or maybe even one and the same! I have an old broom she can have and fly away on.

You better believe I'm going to write Florez Christine . My family is suffering because of these bastards indecision ! Maybe , so these EDD higher ups want to know how angry people are , should look at blogs like these .I've heard guys so angry their about to go postal on the EDD office !I'm not advocating this but it's getting this bad ! This Angelique should watch how she speaks to people , this is not a game ! Witches are to good for that low life Christine !

Christine 7 years ago

Jim, I feel so bad for all of us in this awful situation. We did not choose it and I don't beleive for one moment any of us prefer UI benefits over a full time job with benefits. I think the best thing we can do is to bring attention and pressure to the people who are responsible for getting much needed funds to us. It is better to fight them with their own words than to seek change out of anger. Not that I haven't been angry but I am more determined than ever to make them eat crow over this. Hang in there and know you and your family are not alone. I think we should start a new organization called the "Future Employees from the past America". Hang in there and keep the faith.

Ben 7 years ago

Got this today.

Here is our reply:On March 27, 2009, the Governor signed legislation that would allow unemployed workers in California to potentially receive up to another 20 weeks of unemployment insurance (UI) benefits. This is an additional extended benefit program known as the FED-ED extension. The Department is currently working on the programming to file and process the FED-ED extensions. It is anticipated this programming will be completed by the end of May. When the programming is completed, claimants who have already exhausted all of their regular UI and current federal extension benefits, and are retroactively entitled to a FED-ED extension, will be notified by mail that additional benefits are available when programming becomes available, the Department will file all FED-ED extensions. Because of the volume of claims filed, the EDD requests you do not message or call regarding the FED-ED extension. The EDD is working to provide you all the benefits you are due in a short of time as possible. To ensure that your claim is properly filed, only advise the EDD to any changes such as: o Updates to mailing address or telephone number o Any changes on the last employment since filing the prior claim Please disregard the letter advising you to call the EDD to file the FED-ED.

Christine 7 years ago

Thank you Ben for the letter. I am copying it to Senator Florez. None of us can survive until the end of May to get a claim form. By the time we complete all the past due claim forms and mail them back we would have no checks until June. good grief!

CA Extension When??? 7 years ago

Christine, Yvonne, Kickin It etc...

Thank you Christine for all of the valuable info you are providing and much agreement w/Yvonne and everyone else positing here.

Just called the Sac Bee source and the number for Loree Levy. The Bee source is not sure if he is going to proceed with an article. He stated that I was probably the third caller - more calls better chance for media coverage...

Regarding the office of Loree Levy - the person taking the calls said she "thought" the program was going to "start" at the end of this week but "wasn't sure" when I asked if the forms were being mailed, the response was "Forms for claims are separate from the Program starting" NO CLUE !!!!

And to Kickin it - regarding the filing on line to be denied to get approved... good luck with that. I too did that for the 2nd extension and it caused a delay. It took an inside call from a writer at the SF Chron to get the extension reinstated/resolved.

Will read all of the informative posts with phone numbers for following up that Christine put in. Will also make calls/send e mails - but wait - I already Lost my Cell Service and have a Pay as you Go Phone - and ATT is "soon" shutting the Internet.....

Christine, the time and research which you have provided on this site speaks volumes about your competancy level and ability to get things done. If you were running for Public Office, you have my vote!!!!

Yvonne 7 years ago

"The EDD is working to provide you all the benefits you are due in a short of time as possible."

Lies and the lying liars.

"To ensure that your claim is properly filed, only advise the EDD to any changes such as: Updates to mailing address or telephone number"

Maybe I did something right by filing the claim last evening, per kickinit's post, since my phone number has changed. Other than that, my claim's the same. OTOH, these EDD folk are some lowlife people whose veracity is constantly found to be questionable.

What I want to know is how do we survive until the end of the month--how's that supposed to work? And what kind of people are these people who are government employees? They have no compassion, no caring, no concern for their fellow humans.

The world is a ghetto and many of the people in it are cruel, incompetent, narcissists, who are degreed yet thoroughly uneducated.

Ben 7 years ago

Things aren't going to get better in 20 weeks what happens then.

Christine 7 years ago

I for one am not going down without a fight. I also faxed a letter to State Assembly Speaker Karen Bass in addition to 11 supporting documents showing EDD has been outright dishonest with claimants and are defiant of directives given by the State Senate on April 7, 2009. I will keep you posted as I will follow up with her office tomorrow. I am not going just sit here and let these people pull the rug out from good hard working people who have by the grace of God managed to stay somewhat afloat until EDD pulled this. We have cut out everything imaginable to survive. Please keep the calls going into Senator Florez.

Christine 7 years ago

I thought I would provide the list of numbers we all need to call and give input.

Patrick Henning-EDD Director (916) 654-8210-Watch out for Angelique!

Loree Levy-Deputy Director of Public Affiars to EDD (916) 657-0694

Gov. Arnie (916) 445-2841

Senator Dean Florez (916) 651-4016 (ask for Amy)-Sacramento (661) 395-2620 Bakersfield Office ((559) 264-3070 Mariposa Office

Andrew McIntosh-Sacramento Bee-(916) 321-1215 Many calls need to be made to him. He has a voice mail, fill it up. He will write a story if enough people are protesting EDD.

State Assembly Speaker Karen Bass (323) 937-3466 She has a huge problem with EDD and good ole Arnie. She would love to have the fuel which I have provided. Now she needs to hear your voices.

I am now going to the Federal level since the funding provided for this extension has not been used in a timely manner or to those it was intended. Federal funding is a hot potatoe these days so why not add one more hot potatoe to the fire.

CA. Extension when? I might just take you up on that vote! Than you for your support!

poor 7 years ago

This whole thing is a mess, when are they going to let us know. I only have so much in my savings. I might have to pack up and move in with my parents. And the move and changing my address with EDD will be like shooting myself in the foot. They find any excuss to not give you your benefits.

Christine 7 years ago

I thought all of you might like to see the organizational chart for all agencies and who they report to in the State of CA. At the very top it states they all report to us!

www.cold.ca.gov

Click on the organizational chart when you get on the site. It will provide you with a wealth of names, addresses and phone numbers for your area. We need to remind them their real bosses are the residents of CA. not ole Arnie.

Inez 7 years ago

I received this letter from EDD dated 4/29/09:

Please follow the instructions below. FAILURE TO DO SO MAY RESULT IN DENIAL OF YOUR BENEFITS. Please include your name and Social Security number on any additional forms you nail to the EDD.

1. Progranmmning for the third federal extension is not completed as of yet. You will be notified by mail when the additional benefits are availabel. You may be required to contact the Department to file the FED-ED extension.

That's ALL it says. The programming is "not completed" and I will be "notified" when it is. No time frame is given and it mentions that failure to follow instructions below will result in denial of my benefits. What directions?? Also, it mentions that I "may" be required to file for the Fed-Ed. I thought they were automatically re-filing for me? This is so frustrating because now I'm worried that they will further delay the process by requiring us to re-file after they told us not to do anything. Why did they even send me this letter? Just to further frustrate me? I'm afraid to even answer the door these days because it might be a process server ready to serve me with an eviction notice!

Christine 7 years ago

Inez

Write a short letter to Senator Florez regarding the letter you received and fax t along with the letter EDD sent you (black out your social security number) and fax it to Senator Dean Florez at (916) 327-5989.

Senator Florez wants to see all the different letters people are getting in addition the conflicting information provided on the EDD website. You can also fax the same documents to State Assembly Speaker Karen Bass at (323) 937-3466.

We need to show them in black and white what is really going on here.

CA Extension When??? 7 years ago

Too absurd...returned a box of cereal bars (late) this evening so that I would have milk for my child in the AM. Previously, when the benefits were consistent, I did not qualify for food stamp/aid a road I would like to avoid - with this gap, I will qualify. And, That costs the state additional funds - when once again, the funding for this fed extension is already in the Bank!

Like many who have been in this predicament for longer than could have ever been deemed plausible - I absolutely do not have any one left to ask for help/borrow etc..

The irony is that the safety nets (albeit "barely") were put into place in response to the collapsed economy and the record high level of unemployment.

Why haven't we been able to receive these Benefits in a timely manner? The state of CA received these funds in a timely manner.(a rhetorical ?)

What is it going to take to catapult EDD into Immediate action?

The gap between receipt of claim forms *with no date in site* and the 7 - to 10 days before a check is mailed - I have run out of time.

HELP!!!!

Marc 7 years ago

Christine,

I have just read all of your input and support for all of the Unemployed Workers in California and just hearing all of the things your are doing to help everyone must be commended. Your input has helped me to not give up and has encouraged me to step up and make a differnece for my fellow Californians. I watched every day and downloaded every Assembly and Senate hearing agenda in support of the additional benefits because my industry was hardest hit and was coming close to the end of my 2nd extention. When the bill was passed I remember quitely sobbing because now I had hope that I wouldn't get evicted from my current rental home after losing my own home last year and taking 4-months to find a landlord who would take a chance. Then to not get any answers, contradictory information, 5-day promises to return calls. Simple cut and paste email replies and contradictory promises like "Beginning of May" or "Middle of May" and "Now the End of May" which would pretty much secure my fate as I would lose electricity, phone, fax, internet which I use to apply for jobs. Let me note that I have had regular employment from age 14 (McDonald's) to 36 (Local Newspaper) with no breaks and each year paying into the system and to now depend on the system and have it fail me is unacceptable. I have taken all the numbers you have listed and will fax them and contact all of the departments. Having worked for the McClatchy Company for many years, I will utilize my personal knowledge of their system including contacting their community relations departments to see if they would allow a community based advertisment utilizing their reserved ad space to help the people of California. I will design and ad this morning and submit it to the Sac Bee for consideration. Christine again thanks for the boost of confidence in the "Power of the People" together we can and will be heard.

Christine 7 years ago

Marc,

Like you I have spent the majority of my life employed and did not ask to lose my job. I was with a County agency who lost jobs due to budget cuts with no hope to be called back in the near future. So I am using my field to research every possible avenue to get EDD to do the right thing and stop the blatant disregard for our welfare and that of our families. We can change this but we have to grow in numbers. I know many people have lost phone service and cannot call but maybe they know someone with a fax who will allow them to send a letter to our representatives. I am one of those people who are tenacious and will not give up. Time is of the essence in this matter and I will do my part to make the unemployed aware and to educate them as to what they can do about it. You can take every material thing a person has but you cannot take away their determination or their will. EDD is going to see what the combined will and power of the people can change. We will be heard if it is the last thing I ever accomplish. Thank you so much for your efforts. It is people like you in spite of their difficulties that find the spirit to help the entire cause. I would like to find a way to get the unemployed to rally in all CA. cities over this. A few signs and a few hundred people at each location would certainly get the attention of every media source for the area. So many cities lack EDD offices but they all have Workforce Development offices. That would be the place to picket the eggregious behavior of EDD. If anyone has an ideas how we can organize this I would certainly be the first to hold a sign and walk the line. I will be making more calls this morning and will let all of you know what I find out on the Federal level.

Re: FEDED Extension has not been provided to eligible unemployed claimants

Dear Governor Schwarzenegger;

After many attempts to be heard regarding the above issue we the people have organized and will proceed with protests at each Workforce Development office across the State of California.

Too many people have been harmed due to EDD being unprepared. As Senator Florez letter states in his letter addressed to you of April 7, 2009 “this is the largest single failure of government”. The unemployed did not choose to be in this situation and would like nothing more than to rebuild their lives if jobs became available. To take away their lifeline is an egregious act against the people of the State of California.

If you review the State of California government agency flow chart it will refresh your memory. You report to the people and are accountable to the people.

Our federal tax dollars were provided to assist the unemployed but not one dollar has passed into the hands it was intended.

EDD extended hours to include Saturdays which is a failed attempt to assist claimants. Phone agents cannot provide any answers, they simply take messages and forward emails for a response within five days. Five days come and go with no response. Another waste of tax dollars. You may have created jobs but the jobs do not perform the duties as intended. Agents do not have answers and have expressed their frustration at lack of information coming down from the executive offices of EDD.

In speaking with Angelique of Deputy Director Loree Levy’s office I was appalled at her response when I asked how the unemployed are supposed to feed their families, put a roof over their head or keep their utilities turned on. Her response was “I don’t know I am not a politician”. She hung up on me after her comment.

We have gained the support of many new media outlets and are working quickly to move our grassroots movement into every city. The United States Senate has been apprised of this situation regarding the withholding of federal funds. Senator Florez has been provided with supporting documentation of the continued failures to support EDD claimants. State Assembly Speaker Karen Bass has also received documentation which goes to the deceitfulness of EDD and conflicting letters issued to claimants.

We are starving, we are losing our homes and our children are going without basic necessities. You can take away every material thing we own but you cannot take away our determination and our will to bring about change powered by the very people you are responsible to.

Regards,

Christine Baker

I too sent an email and letter to all addresses this site provided and called every number, but yours was a whole lot more siphisticated and straight up to the point. POINT BLANK BLUNT

Christine,

Fantastic letter. I may have missed this, but do you plan to send a copy to every "letters to the editor" at major California newspapers? As I'm sure you know, it can be easily emailed to them. I'm sure the Los Angeles Times and others would be interested in it. Nice work, on all fronts.

Christine 7 years ago

We need to start organizing for each Workforce Development office protest. I thought the best way to do this is to start by knowing who is interested in organizing for their area office. I live in Palm Springs, CA. Our Workforce office is located in Indio. Anyone wanting to volunteer their help for this area would be greatly appreciated. If anyone wants to fax a letter but does not have access to a fax I would be happy to do this for you. Just send your letter to me via an email attachment. I will fax it for you. If you want to contact me I can be reached at baker.christinem@verizon.net

If you live in other areas where Workforce offices are located please let us know so we can get this off the ground quickly. We have to be organized and cover every office if possible. We may not turn out in the thousands but it will draw attention to this mess. We also need to select a date for the protest. Let me hear from anyone who wants to be part of changing this hideous agency.

Christine 7 years ago

Mark, I have began sending emails to editors such as the LA Times, SF Chronical, OC Register. I have provided them a copy of our letter to the Governor and letters Senator Florez wrote to the Gov back in April. If anyone has email addresses for editors or can research this for me I will be happy to send the letters to them also. I can use all the help anyone would like to provide.

Christine, I've been following this string with tremendous interest for the past couple of days. I've called the Office of Public Affairs, the office of Senator Florz' and the Sacrmento Bee. I can't believe that the CA EDD continues to get away with going radio silent in the middle of this economic crisis. Please post a list of things you need help with and I'll grab a couple to help you out.

Alison, Thank you so much!

What I really need is:

email addresses to every editor to every major newspaper in CA. I covered the LA Times, SF Chronical, OC Register, and Press Enterprise but there are many papers to make contact with.

I also need anyone who knows how to "twitter" information to get our message out with numbers for Senator Florez, State Assembly Speaker Karen Bass, and the number to Andrew McIntosh of the Sac Bee. I started a twitter but I don't think I did it correctly. Someone must know how to manuever in that new world.

Email address for television media coverage would also be helpful. I have emailed Los Angels stations 7 & 9 with our story. But again there are news stations in every city.

I have posted my email address as a way to send info directly to me. baker.christinem@verizon.net

I just know we can get our message out there if everyone would be willing to contribute their time with letters, phone calls and a little research. I am willing to fax letters for anyone who can email them to me by attachment.

Christine,

Thank you for those numbers. I'm going to make a copy of the letter I received and try and get to a fax machine today!

UPDATE - CA When??? 7 years ago

2:26 PM Thursday 05/07/09

Amy (Amie), the contact listed from the office of Senator Dean Florez - responded to my inquiry from yesterday regarding this fiasco.

Per Amy as conveyed to her by a Programmer with EDD:

1. The programming is completed effective today (05/07/09).

2. The required forms including retroactive weeks (claims) will be mailed within three to four business days from today.

3. Upon successfully meeting the "new" requirements (didn't ask - assuming the new format requiring in person not e - mail..) and mailing back claims, checks will be expedited.

Amy - if you found the site "here" - thank you - AND - complete thanks to Christine!!!

Three to four business days would put the outbound at Tuesday the 12th or Wednesday the 13th - guessing we will have them by Friday the 15th? Immediately mailed back in Saturdays outbound - Retroactive checks arriving by the 22nd...

While this does sound positive, Amy said to let her know if this does not take place etc...

Don't want to be Negative - but - I have more faith in Christines' ability to have this rectified than the powers that be.

Yvonne 7 years ago

Speaker Bass's office number is 323.937.4747. The number listed above is her fax number.

I'm one of her constituents and I contacted her office. I was told by the nice young woman that 'Marcos' is the EDD point person in Bass's office and that he liaisons with EDD persons so he would probably be able to contact them and find out information on my particular case, although I spoke collectively about the unnecessary stress the EDD debacle is creating for all of us who have to deal with the state agency.

I spoke to someone in Florez's office as well. They took my name and number as it seems they are compiling a list of some sort of all the people who are calling with EDD complaints. Amy wasn't in the office but she called back and left a message saying that I should receive a notice of award AND a claim form within 3 to 4 business days. She said that the continued claim form will be slightly different as the Feds are asking for other information than the state usually does. This is most likely the why of the, so far, 4-5 week delay. Changing forms is not an easy thing even for the gubmint.

While on the phone with Liz in Henning's office at EDD, the leasing company chick came over to serve me with a 3-day notice at the exact time that I was telling Liz about my landlord's propensity to file evictions, not caring one whit about the economic crisis or the EDD crisis or the no jobs available crisis. OT, but he told me late last year (when he took me to court) that it was between me and EDD and he just wanted his money, even if I had to call my mother to get it. As if my mother, a 75 year old woman living in Alabama on SS, can cough up $1K at the drop of a hat or even over a 3-year time frame. I'm. Just. Saying.

I told Liz that I was speaking softly because I had no plans to answer the door, on which the chick knocked for three whole minutes (yeah, she's a silly rabbit). Liz heard her knocking and asked me if that was her as she took my name, phone number and SSN, and said that they would have someone at EDD contact me to at least give me information on my claim. Oh yeah, she asked me if I had filed a complaint through the online EDD email system.

Andrew McIntosh at Sac Bee sounded harried and frustrated when he answered the phone. He said he's gotten a lot of "obviously orchestrated calls." I told him we were in desperate straits, he said he realized that. I told him what had been posted here about his not doing an article on the epic fail that is EDD UI. He got indignant--still nice but barely contained--and said he never said he wasn't going to do an article. What he said he had said was that he wouldn't be doing an article this week, but was aware of the humongous EDD UI problem. We spoke a little less than 5 minutes, and he said he would definitely call me back either tomorrow or next week. He said he was working two desks--one for a colleague--as well as working on a breaking story today (that guy they elected in the recall and the Santa Barbara fires maybe?), but he promised he'd call me back for an article he's planning on EDD and our terrible state of affairs.

So far, I've yet to run into the Angelique-types; everyone with whom I've spoken has been apologetic and quite sympathetic. McIntosh too said he was sorry, as did Liz who also said she noted that the wolf was at the door with the 3-day notice.

Two things, maybe even three: Although we are all stressed and angry about the untenable situation in which we find ourselves, our approach to the people we speak with should be anchored by calm courteousness. Remember, you can catch more flies with honey than vinegar and none of the people we're speaking with are the culprits in this mess. Besides, we want--need(!)--their help. Remember "A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver."

Next, we need to make sure to complain about the stress-inducing EDD recording and website on which the language of each medium implies that you may or may not get the third Fed Extension, and you may or may not get 20 additional weeks. This is incorrect and, further, creates unnecessary angst, not only for us long term unemployeds, but for those who are in one or the other of the first two extensions although, hopefully, we're the test cases smoothing the way for the next group. Make no mistake, there's going to be a next group, and a next. The young woman in Bass's office agreed with me that the bill is written in such a way that (a) if you got the 1st and 2nd extension, you'll get the third, and (b) Californians will get 20 additional weeks.

Finally, we ought to try to be as accurate as possible when disseminating information, be it phone numbers, names, etc. With both Florez and Bass, I did a search and came up with the correct information, after failing to reach them with previously posted info.

Everyone keep up the great work, and constantly remind yourself that we will get through this, and things always have a way of working out. Now I'm going to call Steve Lopez at LA Times, and I'll let y'all know what he says.

Other than that, I got nothing. :)

Marc 7 years ago

Chistine,

This is Marc and I appreciate your comments. I am in Fresno and willing to do what I can here in Fresno. If you could forward the letters you have to me I will get them in the hands of all the Media here in Fresno which is now the 5th largest city in the State and has one of the highest unemployment rates in California. If people are really wanting to organize, I have the capability of supplying one banner to each city with a Workforce or EDD Office. You can email me the letter to imcagency@yahoo.com. Due to a lack of jobs I have decided to start my own advertising business. God Bless that I had good friends pitch in and donate supplies and equipment to my efforts so I have a banner printer. This is a great cause and I support it. I can develop press releases if needed. Willing to utilize whatever to help our cause.

Yvonne 7 years ago

Got a call from Sarah at EDD UI who left a message saying she'd call me back, since her number doesn't show up on caller ID. Guess Liz really did tell them that the wolf was at my door while she was speaking to me. Heh.

We're going to get through this, people. We really are.

Christine 7 years ago

Yvonne, you really were hard at work. I spoke with Amy of Senator Florez office and was told the programming was complete today also. I believe the issue with EDD the the lack of being prepared as stated in the letter written by Senator Florez and their continued lack of the same. We have been shaken to our very roots over this lastest crisis which EDD created and which the unemployed paid a very high price for. Even if the programming is complete and the forms go out I think this agency needs to be held accountable by exposing this for what it is and what the cost was to so many.

I don't trust EDD all though I am pleased the Senators office did get somewhere with them and were kind enough to let us know the outcome of their inquiries.

You are correct those were fax numbers for people to fax letters to Bass and Florez. I may have not stated fax and I apologize. As far as McIntosh at the Sac Bee he stated he received only a few calls (this was a couple of days ago) and was not sure he was going to write about this situation. The idea to call him was to show this issue has effected many and needs to written about since he covered the Senate hearing with EDD in April.

Thank you for your update and hope the wolf at your day goes away soon.

As for me I am going to continue to bring awareness to EDD and the ongoing problems. I have little faith they are going to change their ways just because their programming is complete.

Thank you all for the help, the info and most of all for giving all of us a little light at the end of the tunnel.

Christine 7 years ago

It would be very intersting to know when each of us get claim forms and if we got a claim form for each of the weeks to be paid retroactively. Too bad EDD won't pay our late fees, utility deposts to restore them or speak to our mortgage companies to get those fees dropped.

I know if not for so many of you making phone calls and writing letters our issues would not have been heard let alone responded to. The most imporant thing to come from this is there are more Senate hearings coming up with EDD and this will be a topic. Should be interesting to hear if Hoffner showed up this time or if he conveniently had to be out of town again!

Martha 7 years ago

I got a call to from Amy with the Senators office. Christine, can't thank you enough for the direction and getting our voices heard. Amy was really nice as were everyone with the exception of EDD phone operators. They were always rude and treated each of my calls as though I was not worthy of an answer. No matter how nice you try to be to some of those phone people they are not nice.

I don't trust EDD either and think they need to take some heat for all the problems they caused for everyone depending on benefits. I will let you know when I get the claim forms and if I got one for every week they are behind with me. Should be a few since I have not been paid since Feb.

Kat 7 years ago

Wow. All I can say is that I a humbled by all of you that have taken such an active and diligent approch to this EDD mess. I finally reached my breaking point today and turned to GOOGLE for answers. I found them here. You feel alone when you are in dire straits, but the internet and this particular site has given me hope. I just want to say thank you to those that deserve thanks.

Rudy 7 years ago

Thank you so much Christine. I got 2 calls in respose to my faxed letters. I am so grateful but I don't trust EDD so until I get those claim forms I am hesitant to assume they were honest with the Senators office about this. Not sure why you are apologizing, you did say these were fax numbers. That was the best way to talk to Senator and the other offices I sent my letters to. I could say what I needed to say, keep calm and not expect more of the same rejection and bad attitude on the "other" end of the phone. I gave the fax numbers to everyone I know who lost jobs with me and are in the same situation, we got together, wrote our letters and faxed them at the same time. They are all getting calls too.

Kat. your not alone and everyone here is just great, especially Christine. A big thanks to Kickinit for having this hub . It gave us a place and connection to someone who truly went out of their way to help all of us. Thank you thank you

I hope Senator Florez does make a big deal out of this too.

Let just wait and see. Bless all of you!

So thank you again and I will let all you know when I get claim forms and if I got enough of them.

Yvonne 7 years ago

Our campaign to end EDD's lethargy at every level must not end when we commence receiving checks. The agency needs to be totally revamped from Henning to the UI chief, whoever that is, and beyond. We're the ones who, through no fault of our own, are the people to do it.

If there's anything the Obama campaign should have taught us it is that there is strength in numbers, that change is effected from the grassroots level. We are the change we've been waiting for.

We can't let up; it ain't nowhere near being over, and it won't be over until we effect major changes in the way they do business with the people they serve.

Many kudos, Christine, for your diligence and hard work.

Martha, I've found the men working at UI are much more amenable than the chicks. It's a shame really. What chaps my hide is that these days rather than admit that they don't have information or don't know the answer, people will tell you anything, even if it's a lie. That's my general belief about the EDD UI people--they know absolutely nothing but they don't want to admit that they know nothing so they say whatever to get you off the phone.

Christine 7 years ago

Yvonne,

We have to pursue this and be diligent in exposing EDD. When you think about what the cost was to so many during this last crisis it further fuels my efforts to bring change. I can't thank you enough for your diligence and efforts and hope we can all stick together even after the checks come. I feel peaceful protests must take place in the future with many of you offering your help. I get the feeling there are still some rough rodes ahead with EDD.

I received a wonderful letter via email from someone who wants to remain anonymous. My heart just aches for them as it serves as a reminder of just how bad things are for many. It is about the delay in benefits which resulted in ruined credit, people living out of their cars with children and pets, it is about the lack of assistance for the homeless, the hungry and those who no longer have access to health services. It is about human beings trying to survive this nightmare when many thought they had done things right only to have their world turned up side down. It is about human beings and how they should be treated when they are down.

I am in this for the long haul. Until I see a change in the executive level of this agency I will not be satisfied with the completion of their "complex programming".

Until then and with Gods blessing we just keep going forward, one foot in front of the other.

I am just blown away by you people. It's now 2:58 a.m., and I've been reading this site for over two hours. You've done such great work. I am a senor citizen who worked because I like to and need to. I've gone through all my savings, moved out of my apartment into one room, and have felt like I'm in this all alone. Thanks so much. The efforts and the results you got are amazing!! Hopefully, next week at this time we'll know what's happening.

Christine, you should run for office. Thanks for all your help. And, of course, all the others that picked up the boulder and carried it forward.

Hey guys someone on another forum that I post on got 2 FED ED claim forms yesterday, here's what she posted. So the claim forms are surfacing. Thank GOD. Good luck to you all, I hope by tomorrow we all have our claim forms

Hey California Friends! Good news, for me and I hope for all of you. I got two claim forms with not letters in the mail yesterday. All it says on the top stub is "This form is being sent to you to bring your claim up-to-date. If you wish to claim benefits for this period, please COMPLETE THE ENTIRE FORM. Sign and mail immediately but no later than 5-18-09." The other claim form has the same just the last date send is 5-21-09. My forms are for weeks 04-12-09 to 04-25-09 and 2nd one is for 04-26-09 to 05-09. So I need 20 work searches - YIKES! Anyone else get the same forms? If not, they should be on their way!

Yvonne 7 years ago

President Obama to speak on the unemployed in about 15 minutes. Unemployment rate in US at 8.9%, with unemployment for African Americans rising to 15%, and dropping for teens to 21.5%. CNN is reporting this drop in teen unemployment as if it is good news, although it only dropped from 21.7%.

It is being reported that the President will announce a new deal for the unemployed to get additional training or enroll in college and keep their benefits. He is also expected to announce an increase in the Pell Grant.

Apparently, EDD UI hasn't changed their website to reflect completion of the Fed Ext programming; if and when they do that, I may believe the word we got last week.

Christine 7 years ago

I called EDD this morning just to get validation the programming was completed and claim forms were going out. The answer is...the programming is still up in the air, they do not have an answer, all they can do is take a claim or a message and that is all they can do for you at this time. We all know our calls are never returned via their message center. I then called Director Patrick Hennings office and spoke to Liz. She also did not know anything about the programming being completed and was directing me to go to the EDD website which we all know is a waste of time. She recommended I write a letter to Henning. His fax number is 916 657-5294. She said he aware of the calls they have been getting therefore wouldn't he get on top of this and get answers? She was very nice but she is as much in the dark as everyone else. I then called Senator Florez office but Amy was not in but I left a message for her regarding what I learned this morning. If the programming was complete don't you think the Directors office would know considering he oversees EDD? Wouldn't you think his office would know more than they knew 2 days ago? I don't know who Amy spoke to at EDD but clearly no other department seems to know the programming is done. When I spoke to the EDD call center I was told no information has been provided to them about any specific date for claim forms to go out and the webite is decieving as you are not automatically filed into the third extension. I asked her several times if she was sure no information had been filtered down to the call centers about the programming situation. She told me "no, we haven't been told anything, all I can do is take a claim or a message".

If programming is complete it is the best kept secret in EDD.

Here we go again folks. I am waiting for a call back from Amy in the Senators office.

Mark 7 years ago

Caligirl,

I live in California (Los Angeles) and have not received anything from the EDD. Anyone else in socal, or elsewhere, receive the forms Caligirl did? And Caligirl, did you say you had or had not re-filed a claim on your own instead of waiting for the supposed "automatic" filing by the EDD?

Caligirl8111 7 years ago

Hey Mark and Christine unfortunatley I did not get my claim forms, that post was from someone else on another forum, she posted about 10 minutes ago that she just checked her mail from yesterday and had 2 forms in there, trust me I asked her sooooo many questions and am waiting for her answers, another thing I was told by EDD management Ron in the LA call center is that they arent doing the FED ED there it is being done and checks are cut at the Sacremento office and that is why they have no clue as to what and when. The regualr UI and EUC was done from Riverside and San Bernidino but the FED ED has to be done at the Sacremento office, so that is why I'm guessing the LA call center doesn't know anything

Mark I was told by the EDD that B4 they sent us our Tier 2 this year they filed a claim for us to make sure we did not qualify and if not they rolled us over, so that would mean they would not have to file another claim b4 FED ED kicked in, because unemployment goes back the last 18 months of work in order to qualify for a new claim that is why they said EVERYONE who got tier 1 and 2 would get FED ED, so basically no need to file new claim, the gal who got claim forms yesterday said she has not filed anything either, also we were also told people who just ended or ended April 11th would get their materials first

Mark 7 years ago

Calgirl, Thanks so much for the info. That does clarify things.

CA When??? 7 years ago

TO All:

When Amy/Senator Florezs' office provided the information yesterday afternoon (05/07/09) via phone re: "programming completed" "forms going out etc"

I specifically asked her which source from EDD she rec'd this info from. Amy stated that this information was from a Programmer with EDD and that he should know what he is talking about since he did the programming.

With this mornings new posts here - the hope would be

1. That the office which Christine was succsessful in reaching this morning was not the Sacremento Office and that Cali Girls info is accurate and this is/has been done through the Sac office.

2. More than "the best kept secret" - REGARDLESS of which Office has this responsibility it is beyond Reprehensible. Not only should "heads roll" to quote one of the posters but Media Attention does need to Surface Immediately!!!! THE EDD FIASCO

3. This is an EMOTIONAL ROLLAR COASTER for those of us without any other source of funds. EDDs' inability to communicate internally regarding status updates for the FED Extension (or on their web site) are CLEARLY documented and exposed through the posts on this thread.

4. In an effort to be responsible, I would like to contact the entities to which I am in the red - internet service (needed for sending resumes!!!, electric etc... to state when I anticipate funds from past weeks claims so that I can make Payment Arrangements and avoid disconnection with substantial reconnect fees. Certainly, I am NOT ALONE with this situation.

5. MEDIA COVERAGE ON THIS IMMEDIATELY

Martha 7 years ago

I called the EDD call center too and was told the same thing. They don't know anything about claim forms going out or that programming was completed. How could anyone get a FEDED claim form if according to Amy at the Senators office, the programming was completed less than 24 hours ago. That's some fast mail.

Don't know what to believe anymore. All I know is I then called Henning office and Liz didn't know anything. She tried to pursuad me not to go to elected officials because it would just put a layer between my complaint and the person who could address it.

I think EDD lied to Amy of the Senators office and I don't believe anyone got a third extension claim form. Just does not add up. The EDD website hasn't changed either.

Sick of the whole damned situation.

CALIGIRL8111 7 years ago

OK update: the lady known as Calwoman said the FED ED claim forms look the exact same the only difference is box 3 is checked to fill in section B which is the job search info. there are 10 open boxes on the back to fill in info it asks

Date Applied, Company Name, Company Address, Person Contacted, Type of Work Applied For, Results:Please Explain

She also said no award letter came with it just 2 claim forms totaling 4 weeks and instructed her to mail back imediatley

Martha I dont think anyone would lie about that this is a very sensetive situation I do believe her, I cant believe after all of this you would actually believe the government or EDD over someone who says they have the forms in hand, she has confirmed she ended tier 2 April 11th, her new claim forms are dated April 12-25 and April 26-May 9. I'm not going argue this just thought I would be nice and post this info for you guys being as how we are all in the same boat so believe what you want

T0 Martha 7 years ago

Amy did not state that the forms were going out yesterday.

Amy stated that per a Programmer with EDD, the programming was completed yesterday.

and :

The required forms including retroactive weeks (claims) will be mailed within three to four business days from today. (quoted from yesterdays post 05/07/09)

Martha 7 years ago

All I am saying is Amy of the Senators office said she was told programming was completed the same day she called all of us which was yesterday So I have to wonder how someone got claim forms the same day programming was completed. I am not believing EDD I am just saying it would be impossible to get a claim form the same day the programming was complete. EDD doesn't know diddly squat and I realize this is a sensitive issue for all of us. Maybe programming was completed days ago, I don't know. I went by what Amy said of the Senators office.

Yvonne 7 years ago

I just got a call from Sarah in Henning's office at EDD. My conversation with her was disturbing as it was the total opposite of what Amy told us was told to her.

Sarah said that they HAVE NOT completed the programming for the Fed Extension and that they don't anticipate it being completed until "the middle of the month" (next week).

I said, "Someone called yesterday and said that the programming had been completed yesterday and that we would begin receiving award notices and claim forms in 3-4 business days."

Sarah said, "She said the programming is not complete."

I said, "So I am facing eviction."

She said, "I'm sorry but there's nothing we can do, but if you need further information, feel free to call me." I told her I was going to call Senator Florez's office instead.

Scratch all of the above since, while I was entering this post and simultaneously confirming Florez's phone number here, I got another call less than 15 minutes after the first from Sarah who says that she checked around the office and found out that the programming HAS JUST BEEN COMPLETED, and is being put into play today. She said they are working out the kinks as well as commencing to file claims TODAY. She says they are expediting claims, and I should start at the beginning of next week to check the mail for claim forms for the weeks ending April 18 and April 25. She said that I should fill them out and immediately return them.

Y'all should get on the case and confirm this.

Christine 7 years ago

I sjust spoke with Amy of Senator Florez office. I let her know the call centers and the website has not been updated to reflect programming was completed. I also let her know of the conversation I had with the Sacramento Executive office of Patrick Henning who also knew nothing about the programming being completed.

I also told her someone may have received claim forms prior to the date she was told programming was completed which certainly has many people confused.

We are all confused and why...because EDD does not know how to communicate. It is that simple.

Amy was typing as she took down the information and is following up on this right now as I type. She will call me back as soon as she has answers as to why the information was not filtered down and to verify again when programming was actually completed.

Marc 7 years ago

Caligirl8111,

Thanks for your input. What is information/link on the blog you were getting this information from. This is a very important piece of information as I too had my claim end April 11th and thus should be receiving my claim forms in that first mailing. I get my mail in one day from Sacramento being in Fresno, CA. I would hope that a person wouldn't falsely give important info like that when a lot of people are in dire situations. I promise everyone on this blog that the moment I get my forms, I will scan a copy of them and post them online so I can ease all of your pain and concerns. We are all in this together and if not for the communication by the hard working people trying to making a difference for us all, I would have given up days ago. I call everyday and doing my best to get the most accurate information for us all.

Martha 7 years ago

I said the programming was completed yesterday so I could not understand how a claim form could be received the same day too. I did not say what you wrote below. Read before you write.

Amy did not state that the forms were going out yesterday.

Amy stated that per a Programmer with EDD, the programming was completed yesterday.

and :

The required forms including retroactive weeks (claims) will be mailed within three to four business days from today. (quoted from yesterdays post 05/07/09)

Marc 7 years ago

If we could please be courteous to one another as we are all in the same situation and im sure no one is trying to add to the mayhem EDD has caused us all. Let's try to keep only positve information posted. Barely holding it together and this blog is the only positive thing that I have to turn to each day for information. Don't to discourage anyone who may get some important information to not comment or post on this blog.

Yvonne 7 years ago

Caligirl, I'm in Los Angeles.

Christine, here's what I got from Sarah in Henning's office less than an hour ago, a version of the last post I made here. She called me twice within 15 minutes:

While I was entering this post and simultaneously confirming Florez's phone number here, I got another call less than 15 minutes after the first from Sarah who says that she "checked around the office" and discovered that the programming HAS JUST BEEN COMPLETED, and is being put into play today. She said that they are working out the kinks as well as commencing to file claims TODAY. She says they are expediting my claim given the urgency of my situation, and I should start at the beginning of next week to check the mail for claim forms for the weeks ending April 18 and April 25. She said that I should fill them out and immediately return them.

Istvan 7 years ago

Amazing! Remember it is free (so to speak). I agree though that EDD seems to have no clue and or they are receiving direction from the top to stall (to earn interest) becuase the $ amount is so big.

Either way, they need better direction from their superiors.

Christine 7 years ago

Martha

I understand your frustration, we are all concerned with how EDD is handling this matter. I tend to look at the facts and not the hearsay so I am patiently waiting for Amy to call me back.

There are many possibilities going on here. As Yvonne stated she was first told by Sarah the programming was not complete and then she confirmed it had just been completed. I have no idea how the programming was completed, by areas, by county. Maybe some of the programming was done which would explain why someone got claim forms. We just can't speculate at this point.

I want nothing more than to see everyone get their forms as quickly as possilbe but I also know we need information we can believe and quite frankly I don't think regardless of what we are told we will honor their words until those claim forms are in our hands. After all they have not been forthcoming with their information and have not kept all layers of EDD informed.

As for me I am giving it one week to have a claim form arrive. Until then there I am working on bringing this issue to the forefront and trying to do do something positive to avoid this from ever happening again.

God bless all of you!

Thanks Marc, dont want to cause any problems I've been reading but not posting much, but when I got info. that eased my mind I thought I would pass it along and do the same for everyone. The website is called opencongress.com, I am known as Monique8111 on there so if you find me you'll find all the update info. hit page number 1759-1760 here is the link hope it helps, oh also you are in Fresno? You definitley should get it right away that's weird cuz the lady who got hers is in San Diego mmmmm....... I'm in Bakersfield so I would get it right after you then LA then San Diego (you would think)

Caligirl8111 7 years ago

I think the call center at this point is useless, we should stop wasting our time and cell phone minutes to call them!!!!!!

Yvonne 7 years ago

What Marc said. It took me some time to learn that civility gets much more done than incivility. Yes, we are all frazzled, stressed, overstressed, and under duress, but that only means we should work harder to be extraordinarily courteous to those we're dealing with, even at EDD UI.

Christine, it seems that mentioning that I would call Senator Florez was a motivator. As I said, Sarah called me back in less than 15 minutes telling me that the programming had been done.

Now I'm an analytical person with over 5 years experience as a business analyst, so I'm inclined to believe that because this is a totally federally funded program, and because the California Assembly had to pass a bill for the third extension (unlike the first two) and it had to be signed into law by that guy they first elected in the recall, this is all being orchestrated from Sacramento. Consequently, we should know by now that whenever governmental bureaucracies as large as these are involved in establishing a program, it takes them forever to implement. Also, the failure to communicate in large organizations is legendary, and has only gotten worse over the last decade or so. When I worked at a large university medical center, it amazed me the number of meetings we had that dispersed absolutely no signficant information that most needed to be disseminated.

We ain't the only ones in the dark; the minions at EDD aren't being told anything either. What we have here is a failure to communicate.

Marc 7 years ago

Caligirl,

That is interesting that the lady is in San Diego and got her forms so quickly. My mom worked for the Postal Service for 20 years and has given me information as to how the main post offices are linked and mail times for delivery. San Diego has a direct link to San Bernardino/Riverside(one day delivery) the same with LA/San Bernardino, Fresno/Stockton/Sacramento(one day delivery). So is there some truth to a comment earlier by someone that maybe the programming is by Call Center area? When I got my information for the 1st extention, my notification award letter came from the San Jose Juridiction Office(whatever that is). Believe it or not, two other people who I don't even know got award letters sent to my mailbox, computer glich I guess. My second extention award letter and all the most recent responses to my online requests came from a Los Angeles call center. So my point is, maybe the programming is being done by jurisdiction. It would make since as LA & San Diego have the largest number of claims forms(in the millions bi-weekly) to be up first and the San Bernardino Office being ready to print and mail those millions of checks. What burns me up is their posting of 1,000 of us having our claims run out by April 12 and only 76,000+ the following week. That is only 86,000 claims they should have easliy transitioned to be on track. Now a month later I am sure we are in the 500,000-750,000 range and increasing by 50-100K each week.

Christine 7 years ago

I did not get my claim form today but generally it takes at 3 days from the date it was mailed (at least for me). I will let you know when I get my claim forms. I will also let you know when I hear back from Amy from the Senators office. Until then I am taking a breather and will continue to work on getting this cause brought to the forefront.

Best to all of you!

Marc 7 years ago

Have a great day Christine, You have been a work-horse in all of this and deserve a breather. I am going to call Senator Florez's office this morning as he represents my District. I am sure he wants to protect his reputation here in his district since he is running for a higher office soon. What his office is doing must be commended. I will call an assistant in the Mariposa Office to see what they now as to not bombard Amy with more calls so she can get back to you and the others awaiting calls.

Caligirl8111 7 years ago

When I noticed she was from San Diego I thought mmmmm she had to have gotten the forms from LA area and me being told that Sac. was doing FED ED was not correct or like you said jurisdication, so you getting it from San Jose or Sac. would make since cuz you are north, me i get things from San Bernadino and Sac. so I dont know I am on the border line though so no matter which way it comes it takes the same amount of time, so basically what it looks like is it depends what city we live in HUH?

Yvonne 7 years ago

Marc, this -- "What burns me up is their posting of 1,000 of us having our claims run out by April 12 and only 76,000+ the following week. That is only 86,000 claims they should have easliy transitioned to be on track. Now a month later I am sure we are in the 500,000-750,000 range and increasing by 50-100K each week." makes no sense, and reads like mangled numbers.

As of March 2009, the number of unemployed persons (only reflecting those who are receiving UC) is 2,079,932, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, so the number of long term unemployed in California is most likely a 500K+.

Spoke to Amy in Senator Florez's office and she told me that the programming has definitely been completed and claim forms are supposedly being mailed out beginning today. She concurred with me that there is an abysmal failure to communicate at EDD.

Marc 7 years ago

The first extention info came from San Jose, Second extention info and two recent letters came from LA. Here is what was weird though during my first extention. I got the award letter on a Thursday, Claim forms came the next day(Friday), which I mailed that same day. I got a check on Monday from San Bernardino usually takes which 3 days. I was completely shocked because there was no way that could be. The only conclusion that I came to was that it got to Sacramento(where my claims are mailed to) by Saturday(they must work on Saturday to process checks and forms), because it takes one day. They processed the form & forwarded info to San Bernardino who then expedited it because that check came on Monday with my mail by 12pm. I believe it was rushed because the check included my claim form that I had to immediately mail that Sunday. Again asked my mom how the mail could be delivered that fast and she stated if a company has alot of mail(EDD does), they will typically truck the mail to their nearest Main Hub(San Bernardino's would be Ontario which has the airport upon which USPS ships their Express Mail packages and just included EDD's mail. Fresno Main processed it Sunday for Monday's delivery. My point here is a comment earlier stated that forms would be expedited (im sure everyone was thinking, how the hell can they expedite the forms via mail?). The EDD would deliver ALL the forms to the Sacramento Main Hub and fly them out to ALL the Main Hubs vis USPS Express Mail channel. Main Hubs in San Jose, Sacramento, Fresno, Bakersfield, LA, Ontario, San Diego. That would mean if they hurried their asses up and got the forms out today by 5pm, have their truck drop the forms off at Sac Main prior to 8pm tonight, Fresno, Sacramento, San Jose Bakersfield would get their forms tomorrow/Monday the latest and LA Area and San Diego by Monday/Tuesday the latest. Unfortunately, those in the outlining areas (Coast, Far Northern Ca, High Desert, Imperial Valley) it will be Wednesday the latest. Make since why they say in 3-4 business days? That makes me think the comment by Amy and whoever else stated programming done and 3-4 business days was accurate so when we receive these claim forms we will get our checks by the end of next week so our claims become current. If this takes place I wouldn't have to mail my next form until Next Sunday and would be caught up (2nd Claim Ended April 11). Hope this give everyone some insight on the mail system and there is hope we might get the forms by Monday/Tuesday.

This is all very confusing, i guess we just have to wait and be positive. I need diapers for my baby and been borrowing money from my sisters. I am so angry with the whole situation...

Marc 7 years ago

Yvonne,

I am only stating what is posted on the website. Check it out. I have those statics as well and was only making a comment about EDD posting that minimal number of those of us who have exhausted our 2nd Claim. Yes, the long term unemployed is around 500,000 which I stated 500-750K, right and obvisouly you agree because you came to that same conclusion of 500K, right. Yet, every other week another percentage of the 2million+ will become long term unemployed, correct? So your point is?

Caligirl8111 7 years ago

Tell me about it Silvia I have 4 kids 3 under age of 5, 2 of them in diapers and a teenager it has been a bumpy ride, I have been using cloth dipers cuz I cant afford the real ones it sucks and is very agonizing

Marc 7 years ago

Please note I have been responding to Caligirl811 as we are trying to make since on some of this information, and comments about individual frustrations concerning EDD are simply individual comments and I don't see the need to critique them, hence this. If U don't agree, or confused by it that is OK, simply ignore it and move on to the next comment. We are all trying to be positive, Right? Im read everyones comments and reply to those I feel may take soemthing from what I have to say.

piperlori 7 years ago

All of these posts have been very helpful...thanks all of you are so doggedly determined to set things aright as well as all the time and energy expended in getting the most up-to-date information.

Okay, so I just finished speaking to an EDD rep. It only took me five minutes to get through. Miracle of miracles she was actually super nice and sympathetic, albeit ignorant of the current status of the extension forms. (No surprise there.)

She actually thanked me for informing her of what was going on. It appears upper management believes it to be beneficial to keep their customer reps in the dark--no doubt to keep them from saying something that could incriminate the EDD. Apparently, the powers tha be would rather face an angry mob disgusted by their lack of communication and timely assitance than a person or persons suing the State for promising them something they did not deliver. That's what living in a litigious state has produced I supposed. Anyway, this rep would not give me info. on my individual case (as expected) but she did say that if I qualified for the first and second extension, I would qualify for the third. Since she was looking up my SS# while I was speaking with her I'm hopeful that if for some reason I wasn't approved she would have said so. She certainly sounded, both in tone and verbiage, to be trying to tell me I was approved which is some comfort at least.

RE: Obama's approval of college grant money as well as more money for training to people currently on unemployment. You can get all the info you need right here: (It's good news for me since my field is requiring a whole lot more than they ever did before.)

http://federalstudentaid.ed.gov/opportunity/index.... and...

Highlights of the announcment just made this morning are:

"The $787 billion economic recovery package Obama signed into law in February gave states billions of dollars to provide 26 extra weeks of benefits for the unemployed who want job training."

(Right. Let's hope it actually gets to our local OneStops and that they don' t run out--as they always seem to do--in the first week when and if they do get the funds.)

"The administration noted Friday that when unemployed workers decide to return to school, they also don't qualify for federal grants because eligibility is based upon the previous year's income.A senior administration official said that will be changed so that unemployed workers will be able to get Pell Grants for education and colleges will be able to increase financial aid packages without facing audits. Beginning in July, the maximum Pell Grant will be boosted by $500, to $5,350."

(That's good news for me because in my line of work--writing--most employers are now demanding that the writers they hire have graphic arts skills like InDesign PLUS Web 2.0 PLUS social media experience and so forth and so on. So I really need to jump in and take graphic arts, web design, multimedia, digitgal photography ...the whole nine yards in order to be more employable.)

Also, the fed gov is supposed to lean on the state unemployment/labor department to add MORE types of training programs to their approal list (the ones they will pay for). This is also good news since most of the ones they have now are pretty pathetic. In my research I discovered more than a few fly-by-night, so-called "training" programs set up merely to take government money but offering nothing bu inferior training in return.

Read the rest of the announcement to get more detailed info on who qualifies, etc.

Hope this helps.

piper

Caligirl811,

Send me an email to imcagency@yahoo.com with where I can have diapers sent to you via FEDEX. I have a friend who might help me out with something like that. It breaks my heart to see kids suffer in all of this and one thing I have been blessed with are a great network of friends that work at assistance programs and I think diapers are donated to them. I have a FedEx account(they will have to wait to be paid) but I am willing to do what I can.

Just spoke with Patrick Hennings office steff who answered the phone checked with here supervisor and said " Programing will be finished this afternoon" 5-8-09. Here is a good ph# (916) 654-7401 no waiting this is the director of EDD's office,Start calling!!

Mark 7 years ago

Piper...Do you mean that if you exhaust all your benefits (the 79 weeks total, with the third extension), you may qualify for an additional 26 weeks if you enter into a job training or extended education program approved by the state/EDD? Thanks...

Caligirl8111 7 years ago

OH Marc Bless your heart that is very very sweet, my girls actually like the transition, for one the cloth diapers are more comfy for them, for two it is actually kind of good for me cuz I have been potty training them this whole month, and they are really picking up on it, so they will be potty trained by the time this is over (super early for there age BTW) but I wont have to worry about buying those pricy diapers anymore (thank god) Thanks so much Marc that was really nice may god bless you! On a different note has anyone else got their mail 4 today????????????????????

Caligirl8111 7 years ago

That would be super GREAT if that's what it means Piper per Mark's question is it?

Yvonne 7 years ago

Marc, excuse me for lack of clarity in my post; I totally agree with your numbers--we're on the same page, same paragraph same sentence. What I meant was that the statistics that are coming from wherever have to be incorrect because the numbers don't add up.

Sorry for the confusion. Multitasking really doesn't work well. Heh.

CA When??? 7 years ago

Mark,

Wow - That was so kind of you, your offer to help with diapers. If I am not mistaken, were you the banners too? Don't want to re-read the numerous posts - One thing for sure, alot of very spirited, able, capable unemployed people here!

Being a mom, I could not agree more that it is the children of parent/parents in this economic mess who are impacted. I think that most of us do our best to get through each day and this whole mess imparting something new (wisdom, not things) and always try to keep it positive for our children.

Marc 7 years ago

Yes, that is correct I offered the banners too. I was raised to believe that if you have something/anything which you can use to help a cause greater than your own, or an avenue upon which to tap to also support a cause greater than your own must done for the good of the order. The youth are our future and this is a time when we must shield them from all of this and protect their innocence. I would have had the diapers shipped by the end of the day and all I would have expected in return was if she let her daughters know that there are still kind hearted people in the world and maybe this would encourage them to help someone later in their lives. If we all do one good deed for a person in need how much better off would we be, right?

Ok people check out the update on EDD they have updated the web page under FED ED benefits now available, with more specific info.

Good Luck and God Bless everyone

EDD's website says the extensions are now available.

"If you have collected all the benefits on your second federal extension and the last week paid was for a week ending on or after February 21, 2009, and before April 5, 2009, you will be notified by mail that FED-ED extensions are available. The notice will advise you to file online.

If you have collected all the benefits on your second federal extension and the last week paid was for a week ending on or after April 11, 2009, the EDD will automatically file your FED-ED extension. You will not have to contact the EDD to apply for the FED-ED extension."

Michelle S 7 years ago

Well, I've been reading all these posts while on hold with the IRS. I live in Los Angeles. Mail came and no claim forms...but I did get a notice from the IRS asking me for a couple thousand for taxes on my unemployment benefits. It's expensive to not have a job in California!

Good luck to all here. I agree with what has been stated before, after we get our checks, we still need to be vigilant because this system is really outdated, and, frankly, BAD for Californians. I'm single and barely scraping by. I don't know how anyone with a family can survive, even WITH the checks!

Caligirl8111,

That is great news, did you call in the regular number because I still get the same stupid people?

Caligirl 8111:

Who did you talk to at EDD? I called and they said the system is still being implemented. They told me no claim forms have gone out yet.

Marc 7 years ago

What number are you guys calling cuz I keep getting the same "I can only take your info people?"

Christine 7 years ago

After several hours of research I located names associated with the programming department for EDD. Talk about an outdated and broken down system. I was provided this information. It explains how our claims are handled, what call centers can and cannot do and why. I though all of you might find this interesting. It does not excuse what occurred but I now understand why call centers are in the dark.

Yes, the programming is complete and was performed in stages bases on the EDD Main branches which are split up by areas. This is why some got claim forms and some did not.

Hello Everyone,

I've been reading all your post and wated to thank all of you for your encouragement and strenght through these hard times. It's awesome what we can get done in such a short time when we do it together.

I called EDD (800-300-5616) today around 330pm and was told that my claim forms were mailed out today. And after they receive the claim form back I will be all up to date. I hope this is the same for all of us.

Thank you again for all your responses.

GOD BLESS

I called around 330 today as well and only got the same "I can only take your information and get back to you within 5-days" I also called (1-800-300-5616) Robert, Teri and Caligirl8111, what part if California are U in? Robert by the way, email me your experience and some samples of your work to imcagency@yahoo.com. I will respond and let you know why. Also, Robert and Teri did your 2nd claim end on April 11th? If Yes, I am in the same group and probably had mine mailed today as well. I get forms from Sacramento in 1-day so if I get mine tomorrow I will post and let everyone know.

Hey Marc I am in Bakersfield Ca. just about an hour in a half away from you in Fresno, but I am originally from Fresno.

Caligirl8111 7 years ago

Sara I talked to a Rep. named Yolanda, Marc I called the 1-800-300-5616 I hit 1-2-1-1-7 and got right thru, a few times b4 I got thru I got a couple of those idiots that said they cant answer any questions so I would hang up and redial until I got thru to someone who could assist me. I was told that the whole month of April went out to alot of Californians.

Marc 7 years ago

See we were right about the programming in different cities(per Christine's comments). Also, if the EDD did actually mail forms today, We should get them in Sac, Stockton-Modesto-Merced, Madera-Fresno, Visalia-Bakersfield with a little luck tomorrow but by Monday for sure. Also, being in Bakersfield, I could have those diapers there by 9am in the morning. LOLAs I am typing this I just heard Action 30 News on TV saying EDD mailed claim forms so the the unemployed can receive their checks. I sent a press release to Action 30 News yesterday so maybe it got a response. The news coverage was quick and brief and if U didn't look you would have missed it.

Caligirl8111 7 years ago

NO Sh** did they really announce that on the news OMG about time, I wonder if all the phone calls and emails got their butts in motion they didn't want any bad press so got the ball rolling huh? we should have did this along time ago then I would still have my car, alot of people had to sacrifice and cut back alot on just the bare basics RIDICIULOUS!!!!!!!!! They should not get away with this like Christine said even when we do get those checks we can not give up

We, the People of California have to start standing up for our cause and assemble just like we all did this week. Even though we are still broke as hell for a few more days it looks like, I don't know about all of you but I feel good about what we all accomplished or least tried to make a difference. Did U know that there are programs that the federal government has in place today but our state doesn't participate in them? One, which really shocked me was an unemployment program that offered funding to claimants who had the ability and will to start their own business to get themselves out of unemployment. That would be perfect for me and from the compotence, intellegence and drive of the individuals on this blog could run there own businesses as well. I am starting my own advertising agency within the next several weeks(heads up Robert) and just waiting for a small business loan to be completed with a partner I went to college with whom also had become unemployed. California would be a perfect state for this program as people could start small companies throughout the state and hire many people who inturn would be additional taxpayers. DUH!

Calgirl8111 7 years ago

Marc I was thinking that same very thing I hope I see the forms tomorrow, but it will probably take 2 days to get to Bakersfield, it only takes 1 day from Fresno so I would think 2 from Sac. but never know maybe they ordered the post office to expedite. You definitley should see yours tomorrow, my mail runs between 12:30-1:30 so I will post if I get them. What time does your mail run? My tier 2 ended March 21st and I was told those who ended April 11th or sooner will see there stuff first, I will say a prayer for everyone tonight

Anyone know what happens if you don't have info to fill out on the back of the claim forms (4 weeks to get up to date)? I used to keep better track of my info but lost it a while back, then when my second extension ended I got a blurb to call immediately, so I did, got through quickly, the guy was very polite and took all my info (I think this was 2nd week of april), then I got a letter in the mail saying I didn't make any money so no benefits... at this point I have been panicked for the last month trying to figure out what I can do with my stuff when I get kicked out for no rent, trying to sell anything I can (nothing worth much, nobody wants to buy), lots of people stop by, but they change their mind or offer me $20 for a $200 stereo because I have no choice, lost of people out there don't mind taking advantage of those of us in dire straights... I ask all of them about work, nobody has anything or they will ask for my email and say they will pass it on (to be nice), never hear back... So I've talked to people in person, but I don't even remember their names or companies, all the companies around here won't even talk to you, "Not Hiring" "Not accepting applications", Sorry...

I have no clue what type of info to put, someone told me to just put info from websites you sent emails, not sure i have a handle on the idea

Any advice would be appreciated, by the way nice job with the communication, been so stressed out have not slept more than couple hours and can hardly think anymore, so much to worry about what am I going to do, I thought I wasn't going to get anything and havent' kept very good records, once they told me I had nothing coming I've been in Hyper Panic mode 24/7,

And now I'm worried beacause someone told me if you don't fill it out and return it then they assume you don't want it and if you return it and don't have it filled out perfect they deny you and you have to work for 4 months before you can qualify again???

This site helped me settle down some today (took me most of day to get through it) but now I"m getting even more stressed than before because I don't know what to do about the back of the form... obviously going forward it would be easier to know what to keep track of, but this has not been a banner month...

Sorry for typing so much, stressed, concerned, barely got everything payed last month, now my cars acting up and apparently going to be expensive...

Any advice on filling out the back of the form would be greatly appreciated...

thanks

Hey John calm down take a deep breath, ok are you registered on Caljobs? If not register, build a resume on that site, then go into job searches and submit your resume, there are ads dated all the way back to Jan 2009, log the info of that employer down on a sheet and then when your cliam forms come write the info. down, along with the date of the ad. Also craigslist.com has ads for work dated all the way back to March do the same.

Marc Cograds on the buisness and good luck hope it goes smoothly for you. What are you planning on opening?

Christine 7 years ago

John,

It is my understanding part B of the claim forms will require we have 3 employes down for each week of unemployent (6 for every 2 weeks). If you go to careerbuilder.com you can find jobs posted as long as 30 days ago for your area. I would apply for anything online in your area that are at least a month old. You will be able to get the name of the employer for most of them and if they don't supply an address you can find it in the phone book or online. I could be wrong but I don't think applying online for jobs is prohibited since it is the normal way to apply these days. As long as you know who the employer is and where they are located I think you will be fine.

I would check with the call center to make sure you claim forms have gone out to you to be safe and your extension is filed for you.

I think I sold everything I could go without and yes people take advantage when they know you are in dire straights. We have all been humbled by this experience.

I hope this works for everyone, can't belive they took so long, they definitely need to be held accountable, its not bad enough with what's going on out there, my 12 year old becomes a teenager at the end of the month, I though we would be spending her birthday moving into the car... fingers crossed, toes crossed... I'd cross my hair if I had more left... can cross my eyes but it hurts after a while

Thanks again for your post here, very imformative and helpful, funny thing I've been working on computers for over 15 years... and between salary and 70 hour work weeks, avg's out to over 20 yrs if you count it as 40hrs per/wk... been working for over 30 years, never seen it this crazy... I remember when I knew people that worked in a gas station and could support their family and buy a house, the real estate in CA has gotten so out of hand, I keep hearing rent is going down, but don't see it, not easy being a single dad with a kid, not like I can just take off... I hope things are getting better, just not sure for how long it will help me...

Someone mentioned about the training/school and get more help? I thought that was only if you sign up in first 3 months of your claim?

I can barely afford anything now, not sure how I could pay for training

Sorry to ramble on, again barely holding it together lately... saw couple families moving last couple days, not sure where they were going but they didn't look happy, others with the dreaded folded papers taped on their door this morning for everyone to see (where's the rent notices) I swear, the lanlord doesn't even care to talk to anyone I think they tape the notices up at midnight so everyone going by knows... sigh...

An Advertising Agency and Promotional Company. I was President of an agency prior to the owners deciding to sell or forced to sell actually. I applied for UI benefits when they company closed and found out they weren't even paying into my or other employees accounts so when I applied, I was denied because there was no earnings toward my account. Of course I flipped and getting ready to go to court to make sure they never do business again. Anyways, I called some of the previous clients that I had and several of the large accounts I had while employed at the Fresno Bee and have contracts ready to be signed pending the loan(this process is scary as well). The agency will will have a unique side as we will also offer commercial printing to accompany our graphics and campaign management. So rather than outsource printing like most agencies do and include their mark-up to make a profit, we will have our own equipment to print in-house allowing us to keep costs lower than our competitors. So Gilbert is you are planning to launch a music career, and need a complete marketing campaign, promotion, CD creative and a press kit and sales materials, shoot me an email to imcagency@yahoo.com. Your name wouldn't happen to be Gilbert Quiroz, would it?

John - Craigslist has a "for sale" section for every catagorey imaginable. Unfortunately, I had to become all to familiar with it when I had to return my home to the lender and had a very short time to get out and no funds to get out with.

The reality, at least from my perspective & experience was that certain "name brand" items in excellent shape fare decently from a desperate perspective - for everything else, it is essentially a give away - having been there done that - you might be pleasantly surprised that you can do without a whole lot of belongings. Think of it as a fresh start. Hope that helps.

Hey people, good job!^_^

My issue is a little different but here it goes:

My Original claim expires on 6/20. I am currently receiving my 1st extension which also happens to run out on 6/21!! Someone at EDD said when that happens, I must file a new claim and if thats not approved, tier 2 EUC will automatically begin. But I have seen many posts from people who did this and did not get compensated because they did not work since the claim was filed so a new claim is denied. So does this mean if I dont find work (which is likely, sorry) I have to wait for all that to happen before my 2nd extension?? And how long will this take? Luckily I have a direct # for EDD which has been helpful. Thanks in advance for any help!

And in case you need to know, my weekly amt. is 388, max amt 10008, high quarter amt 10070.08.

thanks for the advice, will do...

Sorry to ramble so, really not much sleep lately, and late night TV is nothing like it used to be, used to be old movies, good black and white shows back when they used to know how to make movies... now its nothing but infomercials (can't even spell it)... I saw Chuck Norris on 3 different channels this morning and he didn't fight anyone on any, just sat on some board and talked about how great his product was... and the other shows... too rated "R" to talk about... (I don't subscribe to Digital cable, no $ so only local sell out channels)

Again, thanks for the advice, you all Rock (So my Daughter says)

Time to go feed her... while I can

Sleep well, the times they are a changin, and I do think it looks a little better today than it did yesterday... Hopefully tomorrow will be great for all!

Not up on current TV but I think that we all know that so many of people from yester year (has beens...) are on offshoots of offshoots of reality TV or what have you type programing.

Looks like they ran out of funds too!!

In an odd way, that seemed funny & apprapoe

and

Since none of us are on those shows the GREAT news is that WE are not - Has Beens!! Yah - too much stress..

Michelle S. 7 years ago

Well, you guys seem to be the informed ones...I am trying to find out this one little thing. would appreciated even a reference.

How did EDD determine the benefits they give out and when? I know the table and the rates of the benefits now. But what I want is more of a history. When did they, for instance, decide that someone making almost $4000 a month, should be able to live on $1800 a month? This is more of a research thing that I'm working on while I can't find work. Something to keep me busy. Any ideas where I would find this kind of information?

Good luck to everyone! Keep your heads up!!! we'll make it through one way or another.

Marc 7 years ago

Michelle S.,

I agree with you. I was making $ 6,500 a month and did save quite a bit which I lived on for 8-months. My mortgage before I lost the hosue was 1350 a month. After car, utilities and other household I was still in the negative.

Michelle S. 7 years ago

In my "free time" I am working on an article regarding all of this. I want to talk about the actual money that is received to dispel the "leaching off the government/free cheese" myth. I want to talk about who is really being affected and what they are actually losing.

I'm lucky. I'm single without kids. And I can start all over whenever I need to. If I have to move back in with my parents, that's a possibility. But from what I am seeing, this is NOT the usual story of someone on Unem. It's families, and I'm sorry there is no way for a family to make it on this tiny amount of money. Add to that trying to keep healthcare....just found an average that scares me. The average benefit for a family is around $1300 a month. Average for family COBRA, $1079! Even if you got top dollar on unemployment, a wife and husband...$3600 a month and the healthcare is a third of that?

I think that CA wasn't prepared for this "recession." I think that the system is most obviously flawed, but my guess is it hasn't been updated to reflect the actual cost of living. These are the things I am looking into.

Better than sitting on facebook all day, I guess.

piperlori 7 years ago

Mark, yes I believe that is what it means--26 MORE weeks after the 3rd extension is finished BUT don't hold me to that.  That's what it SOUNDS like but I could be wrong.

Listen, I'm not one who likes to be on the dole, as it were. Yes, I know I paid into it but nonetheless my hard-working, salt-of-the earth sensibilities cringe at receiving government money.  Not so much that I'd be willing to take a $7.50 per hour job in lieu of the $11.50 p/hour my unemployment pays me ($450 p/week), but still, I don't like the feeling.

That's why I force myself to act as though I'm going to work everyday--even if I don't leave the house.  I get up early, pray, exercise, put on my make-up (so I don't scare the postal worker), etc.  My goal is that by 9:30 am every morning I'm at my desk...working.  I send out resumes, update my portfolio, work on my blog, research training programs, write down my dreams and visions while formulating new business plans--all in preparation for a glorious future post-EDD!  (Mind you, I exude all this power of positive thinking while trying to ignore the very real and very present-day economic realities like my broken glasses held together by tape, my expired Driver's License I can't afford to renew & a looming disconnect on my phone).

Hey, I'm even thinking of rejoining SAG so I can make a few more commercials--just enough where I'll have earned enough to qualify for a pension in my golden years. Why not?  Being long-term unenemployed has finally forced me to wake up and reinvent myself and that can only be a good thing!

So, the upshot of all this is that if California will extend my benefits while I can get the training I need to get the kind of positions I used to get as as writer (before they required writers to also be graphic designers, web builders, SEO savvy and social media gurus) then, yes I'm taking those extra weeks & the money that goes with it!  Because ultimately that will translate into my being even a bigger contributor to the economy of California then I was before. (Not that that is completely a good thing since I don't particularly want to support endless entitlement programs and/or social agendas that conflict with my belief system...but that's another story for another forum.)

Okay, Mark and anyone else needing training hope that helps.  I will go to my OneStop next week to verify this, then post what I find out.  By the way Mark, if you need a freelance copywriter for your budding ad agency, let me know.  I do that kind of writing as well! Last project I worked on was a series of travel planners for American Express Travel.

Christine 7 years ago

From my understanding the amounts determined for the benefits were based on the funds coming out of an employers fund and not extensions funded by the federal government. This is probably why the amounts are not relevent to the realistic cost of living. I can't imagine any employer wanting to pay out more than 450 a week (which is the max these days) for laying someone off which is the only way you get it these days.

If there is a formula aside from the quarterly earnings to determine amount of benefit I sure couldn't find it. I have friends out of state who are getting $625 a week and they made less than I did in their highest quarter of earning. It has to be some analyst in our state who came up with this maximum amount. It use to be a great deal less a few years back.

Michelle S. 7 years ago

Yes. In other states the benefits can be higher. Massachusetts tops out at 600-900 a week.

I'm not looking for the formula and the quarterly earnings thing. There is like a 3 page thing with that. What I want to know is a more historical look. When was that 3 page formula thing created?

Where I'm going is this: As the years go by, the median income of CA's goes up. But the top benefits paid out has not. So, I'm trying to figure out when the formula was last updated and how was it determined. Have they taken into account the rising incomes? The rising cost of living? It's more of a broad look at it all. But I do appreciate your info too!

Piper-

I used some of my "free time" during my extended unemployment to get a degree in Psych. (was hoping that by the time I finished my degree the economy would be better....not worse). What I think in my humble-just-degreed-brain is that the people that are writing on these sites; that wake up and continue to work at working; that remain active instead of overwhelmed; these are the people that survive. In the day to day, you will be able to go to a job interview and not feel weird or ashamed. In the big picture, you will change things.

I have seen a lot of blogs about what is going on in CA. This comment area is the most positive and active. A lot of people are losing hope elsewhere and feel alone and lost. This is seeming to be a community of productive and supportive people...and it's all rolling off of a Comment Board. Who'da Thunkit?

Hi everyone,

I am confused everyone is talking about there claims starting april 11th but I received my last check of 450.00 on march 12th and I have filed twice with edd for the third extension are they going to pay me from march 12th or do i lose a whole month, I have been dealing with edd for a very long time probably more then I want to admit I did the school training and then got the extensions anyway is there anyone else out there that there benefits ended in the beginning of march.

Christine 7 years ago

Historical Data of UI BenefitsUnited States

Unemployment Compensation is an amount received by an unemployed worker, originating from the United States or a state. In the United States, this compensation is classified as a type of social welfare benefit. According to the Internal Revenue Code, these types of benefits are to be included in a taxpayer’s gross income.[6]

[edit] Federal-State joint programs

Wisconsin originated the idea of unemployment insurance (UI) in the U.S. in 1932.[7] In the United States, there are 50 state unemployment insurance programs plus one each in the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. Through the Social Security Act of 1935, the Federal Government of the United States effectively coerced the individual states into adopting unemployment insurance plans.

Unemployment insurance is a federal-state program jointly financed through federal and state employer payroll taxes (federal and state UI taxes)[8]. Generally, employers must pay both state and federal unemployment taxes if:

(1) they pay wages to employees totaling $1500 or more in any quarter of a calendar year; or,[8] (2) they had at least one employee during any day of a week during 20 weeks in a calendar year, regardless of whether the weeks were consecutive. However, some state laws differ from the federal law.[8]

To facilitate this program, the U.S. Congress passed the Federal Unemployment Tax Act (FUTA), which authorizes the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to collect an annual federal employer tax used to fund state workforce agencies. FUTA covers the costs of administering the Unemployment Insurance and Job Service programs in all states. In addition, FUTA pays one-half of the cost of extended unemployment benefits (during periods of high unemployment) and provides for a fund from which states may borrow, if necessary, to pay benefits. As originally established, the states paid the federal government.[8]

The FUTA tax rate was originally three percent of taxable wages collected from employers who employed at least four employees,[9] and employers could deduct up to 90 percent of the amount due if they paid taxes to a state to support a system of unemployment insurance which met Federal standards,[7] but the rules have changed as follows. The FUTA tax rate is now 6.2 percent of taxable wages of employees who meet both the above and following criteria,[8] and the taxable wage base is the first $7,000 paid in wages to each employee during a calendar year[8]. Employers who pay the state unemployment tax on a timely basis receive an offset credit of up to 5.4 percent regardless of the rate of tax they pay their state. Therefore, the net FUTA tax rate is generally 0.8 percent (6.2 percent - 5.4 percent), for a maximum FUTA tax of $56.00 per employee, per year (.008 X $7,000 = $56.00). State law determines individual state unemployment insurance tax rates.[8]

Within the above constraints, the individual states and territories raise their own contributions and run their own programs. The federal government sets broad guidelines for coverage and eligibility, but states vary in how they determine benefits and eligibility.

Federal rules are drawn by the United States Department of Labor, Employment and Training Administration. For most states, the maximum period for receiving benefits is 26 weeks. There is an extended benefit program (authorized through the Social Security Acts) that may be triggered by state economic conditions. Congress has often passed temporary programs to extend benefits during economic recessions. Most recently, this was through the Temporary Extended Unemployment Compensation (TEUC) program, which has since expired.[7]

The federal government lends money to the states for unemployment insurance when the states run short of funds. In general, this can happen when the unemployment rate is high. The need for loans can be exacerbated when a state cuts taxes and increases benefits. All loans must be repaid with interest.

Congressional actions to massively increase penalties for states incurring large debts for unemployment benefits led to state fiscal crises in the 1980s.[citation needed]

Because it is a joint federal/state program run by the states, taxing business for the benefit of labor, the politics of unemployment insurance are very complex.

Hey Tina you will be fine, your payments will be retroactive all the way back to your last week as long as your last week was after 2-22-2009. I ended 3-21-2009, and was told I have 4 weeks of claim forms coming to me to get me caught up.

Did the rep get your info and pull up you up? If not dont worry! If you dont gat anything today in the mail call them on Monday and talk to a rep who will answer your questions, when I called yesterday I hung up on 3 different reps. that said they can only take a message and called until I got a regular rep who pulled my info. up and told me my claim forms were mailed out yesterday. 1-800-300-5616 hit 1-2-1-1-7 you'll get thru in 5 minutes. Christine 7 years ago

I have recieved the same amount on all extensions. The only way your benefit amount could change is if there were earning in another quarter which were less than the quarter your original claim was awarded. Everyone is supposed to get the same amount unless another claim was filed and another quarter of earnings were used. Make sense?

Oc Girl 7 years ago

I have been following all your comments for a few days now. They have been very helpful as I too am awaiting a 3rd extension with little or no information available. Checked my mail today, no claim forms for me either.

Martha 7 years ago

No claim forms here yet either in Los Angeles. Still makes me wonder how someone in San Diego got one days ago but someone in San Diego reported today they did not get one. EDD sure has a talent for keeping everyone in the dark, even their own people who don't even know the website was updated about the programming. See what Monday brings us. Must say, if not for the help of all of you, especially Ms. Christine I would have no hope. Thank you again. Happy Mothers Day!

Marc 7 years ago

Hello, everyone. I started calling EDD this morning at 10am and had to hang up on 3 "Info Only Reps) until on the 4th try I got Alex, who informed me that my FED-ED Claim had been processed and I should receive the forms in the mail any day now. Nothing in the mail today here in Fresno.

emc 7 years ago

Hi everyone ~ I do hope you'all get your claim forms soon. I was wondering if anyone knows if one has to reapply after their one year period has expired? I still have money left from the first extension but my claim expired on 4-25-09 and got only one week benefit for the week ending 4-25-09. Will I be restarted automatically or do I have to refile? I hope I don't have to refile because I did work a little this last year and could get a reduced amount. Does anyone know how it works? Thanks. Ed

Christine 7 years ago

When you exhaust your original claim you have to refile then you will go into the first extension. I had to refile a new claim after the 1st year even though I had no earnings. Of course they wrote me a letter stating I did not qualify for a benefit but then I called and I got the first extension.

Yvonne 7 years ago

**Waves at everyone here--so many cool people in the room**

Kickinit, your WEEKLY benefit amount remains the same. However, your MAXIMUM benefit amount will be 80% of your original claim. In other words, let's say your original claim's maximum benefit amount was $6,000. The Fed Ed maximum benefit would be $4000 because instead of getting 26 weeks of benefits, we're getting 20 (26 - 6 = 20) or 80% of your original maximum benefit.

From California EDD Unemployment website:

BENEFIT AMOUNT OF A FED-ED CLAIM

If you are eligible for FED-ED:

Your weekly benefit amount will be the same as your regular UI claim;AND Your maximum benefit amount will be 80 percent of the maximum benefit amount on your regular UI claim.

Also, kickinit, didn't you say you reapplied a few days ago? That may be why you received that award notice. My advice is to ignore it.

Nope, I didn't get continued claim forms today either, but I'm expecting to get them on Monday, or there will be hell to pay. Actually, there will be hell to pay anyway, because I'm not stopping my activism until there's change at the agency. According to Amy in Senator Lopez's office, the Senator will be chairing another EDD hearing this month, I think maybe next week.

Maybe we should forward a letter/petition with all our signatures to the Senator for presentation at the hearing.

I agree with you Yvonne, this corrupt agency needs to be brought to a screaching halt and restructured to serve the people it was established for.

I think a petition is in order however we would need thousands of signatures to make an impact. I did a petition back in Feb on ipetitions.com asking for signatures to push for this third extension. When I got all the signatures I printed them out and sent them by FEDEX to the Governors office and Senator Boxer in addition to letters to every Senator in the House. I will never know if it may a difference but I felt better for it.

I would be happy to start another one on the same site if anyone is interested. We have to get our friends, family, their friends and family etc to sign. It took me 2 months to get enough signatures to submit it.

Ben 7 years ago

Haven't received a awards letter or a claim form yet. Last check was for the week of April 11. Live in roseville, ca.

Christine 7 years ago

Do I have this right? No claim forms received in Bakersfield, Fresno, Los Angeles, Riverside, Northern CA., Orange County, Roseville and any place I missed? Would like to track when people get them in different areas and the date they were postmarked and where they were postmarked from.

Yvonne 7 years ago

Christine -

Couldn't those of us from this site compose a letter and add our signatures? In my conversations with Amy, I got the distinct impression that the senator would welcome a mass-signature letter of some sort that lists the problems we've all encountered with EDD. It isn't just the Fed Ed that is a catastrophe; it takes forever (at least a couple of weeks, often more) to receive a check, open an old claim or even make a new claim. This shouldn't be.

I believe it would be easier to whip up a letter and fax it. We could do electronic signatures for everyone, couldn't we? Even if we only have 10, 20 or however many signatures from those on this site. A good letter would have an impact, and I believe Senator Florez would be happy to read/submit it at the next hearing.

Christine 7 years ago

Yvonne,

I am all for whatever you would like to put together. Count me in. I did sent a letter to the Senator commending him specifically Amy for her diligence. I requested the date of the next hearing in the event we need to pull something together.

SILVIA 7 years ago

Im with all of you guys.. Lets do something, I feel so helpless as i didn't have a voice.. Count me in as well, And i hope when we receive our forms we don't forget all this.

when is the next hearing? and where?

Ellen 7 years ago

Just found this site this morning - it's almost 3 a.m. and as usual, I'm awake worrying about what happens next. I'm in San Diego and I have received NOTHING from EDD since my last check a month ago.

Can someone please explain all this publicity regarding extra call center hours when I have NEVER gotten a human being on the phone? Why do they need extra personnel if they don't answer the phone anyway?

I'm so frustrated! As someone said above, even if you qualify for the extension (which I think I do, but I don't know for sure!) what happens when that runs out? I'm 61 years old and have been employed all my life. I applied for one of EDD's new positions, scored 95% on their questionnaire, and there were about 13,000 people with a score equal to or better than mine!

I'll be making calls during the week and I'll participate in a group letter or whatever!

Christine 7 years ago

Ellen,

Last week many of us began calling Senator Florez since he addressed the very problems all of us are having in hearings with EDD. Amy of his office worked diligently to get answers regarding claim forms on this third extension. It was our understanding per Amy the claim forms were going out and we should have them in 3-5 working days. I assume they began going out on May 7th.

We are attempting to bring an awareness of the continual failures of EDD on behalf of claimants and are seeking change in EDD. As you know we cannot get answers from call centers and/or information provided is not consistent. Sometimes the answers they provide are untruthful.

I would urge you to call Senator Florez and speak with Amy. I would also urge you to write a letter to the Senator stating your situation and your frustration with the business practices of EDD and what this delay in benefits has cost you.

The phone and fax numbers are as follows:

Senator Dean Florez-Majority Leader

Phone (916) 651-4016

Fax (916) 327-5989

Thanks for joining our group. Hopefully we can bring about change with our efforts.

That to add to what's already been reported: I live in Los Angeles and did not receive a check, or any other EDD info, on Saturday. My last check was also for April 11. Best to all, what a group of stalwarts!

I'm in Salinas, CA (monterey County). No claim forms yet. Happy Mothers day to all mothers out there.

Nothing as of Saturday... I'm in Temecula (Riverside County)

i recieved an e mail stating the extension was completed and claim forms have been mailed out.

Mark 7 years ago

clarification: I meant in my earlier post that I didn't receive a claim form, not a check, on Saturday...

Christine 7 years ago

I sent a message to the John and Ken of KFI AM 640. They are running the totalrecall2009.com which is a recall of Gov Arnie.

I provided documentation showing what didn't occur with federal tax dollars meant for the unemployed. I also attached letters sent to Senator Florez, Governor Arnie, Patrick Henning and State Assembly Speaker Karen Bass.

You can reach their show at 800 520-1534 or go to the website I provided above.

Istvan 7 years ago

Nothing received from EDD on Saturday here in Orange County.

If they are going to promise something they should follow through and make good on it and not give everyone the runaround!!

Karen 7 years ago

Last check I received was for week ending April 11th. Nothing since.

For anyone who is in the Southern CA. area there is going to be a recall rally at Toms Farms at 23900 Temescal Cyn Rd in Corona on Sat May 16th 4-7p.m. 15k showed up for the last one in Fullerton. This is the recall brought on by the John and Ken Show KFI AM 640. I am going for sure as it might be a good way to network for our cause. If anyone else is going to attend let me know I would like to meet you.

Hi Everyone,

I just got off the phone with edd, I had filed for my third extension on march 30th and again a couple of weeks ago, so when I called today they said my application had been routed to the right people and to expect my claim forms 7 to 10 days just to be safe she said it could be sooner. Lets hope, I will keep you inform when i do recieve my forms. My last check was paid March 28th so lets see what happens.

Thanks for the place to vent.

Christine 7 years ago

As I type this I am sitting on hold with EDD waiting for a Supervisor. The call agent had no clue the FEDED programming was complete and said she had no information on it or the claim forms. Could not access my claim. I had to tell her to look at the EDD website to get an update!

Brenda 7 years ago

Nothing in todays mail either............I am in Atwater (Merced County).....I too just found this site and have greatly appreciated all the time and effort everyone has put in to make others aware.....I wish everyone the best of LUCK in finding employment....and wish our claims forms will all get here promptly.... isn't it funny how unemployment has brought me to making wishes like I was looking to a Jeannie in a bottle for something we all paid into for so many years ......if thats the case my third wish is that we can all find whatever it is that we need to make our lives and families comfortable for now and each day forward :)

Christine 7 years ago

As I was on hold with EDD I received a call from Amy of Senator Florez office. She asked for this blog site address and will be posting information for all of us to read to lieu of calling everyone. She has recieved a very high volume of calls.

I was disconnected from EDD-imagine that! My mail usually arrives around 11 a.m. I will let you know if I got anything today. Amy thinks it will be mid week for claim forms to arrive as they told her on Thurs 5/7/09 it would be 3-5 working days for them to "go out" and be received. I let her know EDD call agents are nothing more than human message machines. What a waste.

Christine 7 years ago

Just spoke to a supervisor at EDD. My claim form was mailed out on May 8th (Fri) My benefit remains the same for 20 weeks plus the 25.00 stimulus payment. She told me they are hoping to have all claims for those who's last benefit paid on the second extension and ended on the week of April 11th out by mid week. I doubt I will get claim forms today if they just went out Fri but you never know.

amy costa 7 years ago

I spoke with an EDD rep. on thursday. the newest extension claim forms and awards will be mailed out in 3-5 business days. (you should received by no later than Thursday of this week). however, only those with no disruption in eligibility will receive this information in the mail.

SILVIA 7 years ago

I just off the phone with EDD and was told my forms were mail on friday.

betsyv 7 years ago

I just found this site today. I filed a new claim on line and stated it was for the third extension.

I hope I didn't mess up!

Thanks for the good work people.

Kim 7 years ago

I have received a claim form today ( Ventura County) but only for the first two weeks ( week ending April 25.

Mark 7 years ago

Kim, that's good news. Did you call them or re-file your claim before getting the form? In other words, did they automatically file for you, as they've said they would?

The Big E 7 years ago

Got my third extension claim form today. I did not refile. The claim form is for the weeks ending 4-18 and 4-25. At the top where it usually has how much money you have left, it says "this form is being sent to you to bring your claim up-to-date. If you wish to claim benefits for this period, PLEASE COMPLETE ENTIRE FORM. Sign and mail immediately but not later than 05-22-09.

Patrick & Karyn 7 years ago

We live in San Francisco. Our second extension ran out on 5/02/09 (last check arrived the following Wednesday, 5/6/09). We received claim forms in today's mail for the period (5/3/09-5/16/09). So no gap in our UI. Great work on this site. Thanks to all for the collective effort.

Christine 7 years ago

It appears if we received our last benefit for the week ending April 11th we not getting 2 claim forms to get us up to date? I guess I just have to wait and see what I get before I have to call them again.

Kathy 7 years ago

I live in San Dimas (San Gabriel Valley) and got my third extension claim form today as well. As Big E wrote...I did not refile. The claim form is for the weeks ending 4-18 and 4-25. If you wish to claim benefits for this period, PLEASE COMPLETE ENTIRE FORM. Sign and mail immediately but not later than 05-22-09...

**********READ THIS************

NEWS ON FILLING OUT THE WORK SEARCH SECTION OF YOUR CLAIM FORM:

First- don't panic :)

I have been concerned about the work search for the Fed-Ed claim forms, as I did not realize a couple of weeks ago that I needed to keep all of that info. So, I went down to my local Edd and asked some pointed questions on a long term employee od the EDD. Here are the answers:

1. For retroactive weeks- YES you will have to fill out the work search sections. If you don't, you don't get a check. If you have not recorded the information on which jobs you searched for, here are some ideas:

a.) go to the library and look at back issues of the newspaper to find adds that you answered, then list the info from there.

b.) If you have applied for jobs online, many of them have listings still up form the last 30 to 60 days- go back and write down/copy and paste the ones you applied for.

c.) If you applied by email from home- check your "sent folder" . If you do not have it set to regularly delete your sent items, all of your app's may be in there :)

d.) Do this in advance so when you get your form next week, you are ready . YAY!

2. For "blind" job listings (where they only give you a fax number or email address) just put down the words "Blind Listing" and the email/fax address. That is completey acceptable. I specifically asked if the EDD could send my form back to me as incomplete for doing it that way- the answer was unequivocally no, they will not. I fyou have any other questions about this, try your local EDD in person, if youare lucky enough to have a manned location. Calling is fairly futile and many of the people answering the general EDD lines are new and untrained.

Best of luck to all in finding a job. The majority of us hate being in the "unemployed boat", I know I do.

Karen 7 years ago

I received ONE claim form today for week ending 4/18 and 4/25. I am in Grass Valley, Nevada County which is northern California. So, now how long do we have to wait for them to REALLY get us up-to-date? Now we should have claim forms for weeks ending 5/02 and 5/09!

Thanks to everyone on this space for all of the hard work!

It's very mysterious that when you call EDD today they suddenly are able to give you information about your specific claim!

Inez 7 years ago

I received a claim form today in Salinas, CA (monterey county) to bring it up to date for the week ending April 25th. What's even better news is that I got a call back from a job I applied for 4 months ago! The first interview is scheduled for Wednesday! Heres to hoping! Good luck everyone.

Istvan 7 years ago

I received my claim form today ending for period 4-25. This is in Orange County. Need to send this in ASAP!

Oc Girl 7 years ago

I received my claim form as well! (Orange County)

Mark 7 years ago

Just received my claim form (same as already described). Los Angeles. Someone asked if we have to fill out all 10 "jobs applied" spaces on the back. Do we?

CA When??? 7 years ago

Patti,

RE: Blind Listing

Thank you for the "blind listing" information. In reviewing e mailed resumes to be all set for the forms - (which have not arrived yet) several postings on across numerous job boards were sent to "company confidential".

So glad for all the diligent people utilizing this post and providing relevant info. I panicked for a split second thinking that those (sent resumes) will not be applicable for the search criteria - then I logged on here and got the answer. I would gladly confirm with the local edd - if I could reach an informed, able to answer the question, person.

Thank you!

Troy 7 years ago

Work Search? Are we suppose to fill out all 10 slots for work search? I only 5 jobs that I applied for in the last two weeks. EDD never bothered to send us any instructions. I went their the booklet and it fails to say how many your suppose to fill out.

Christine 7 years ago

I called EDD again today about the one claim form instead of two. I was told they only sent one and everyone will get caught within the next couple of weeks but it was the best they could do for now. I am just furious over this one. They knew when these forms went out people would be behind by 4 weeks as of Sunday yet they mail one form. Another issue for the Senate hearing.

Karen 7 years ago

I thought that we were only required to put 3 jobs per week. Is that correct?

Hello Everyone,

You all are so informative. Thank you so much for providing the information you have received from your research on this forum. I came across this website on Saturday and I spent hours reading every post like it was a good book. I was supposed to be studying for my finals. I was crying when Marc offered caligirl diapers for her kids. I would have done the same thing and when you encounter someone who has that type of heart and spirit it is wonderful. Good luck to everyone. You are only required to put 3 job postings per week so I guess that would be a total of six per claim form.

Ken 7 years ago

The EDD web site indicates 3 job searches per week.

Jan  7 years ago

I received my claim form for 4/12-4/25 today. I live in El Dorado, just east of Sacramento. My last check was for 4/11.

This blog was very helpful to me during the last few days as I was sharing the same anxieties as all of you. It kept me sane.

I too would like more information on how many job searches are required. I am a college administrator/instructor and there are not 10 jobs out there in my field in a two week period.

If anyone has direct information on this question from the EDD I would appreciate it. The booklet is not useful at all on this point.

Good luck to everyone!

Suezieque 7 years ago

Great information here! I just found this earlier this morning and I was surprised to see a claim form in the mail today. My claim end date was 5/9/09 for 2 weeks. There is space for 10 employee prospects, but I am not sure what is required. I filled in all 10. Good luck to all that is waiting for claim forms...they should arrive soon.

Kelley 7 years ago

Hi Everyone-

I have been reading your blogs for several days now, as I too was losing hope on the third extension. I received my claim form today (Los Angeles) and it was for 4/12 - 4/25.

Thanks to everyone who helped with all the calls and investigating!

Good luck with your job hunts!

Live in Galt, Ca. Just received continued claim form for weeks 4-12-09 thru 4-18-09 and 4-19-09 thru 4-25-09. The form states it was sent to bring my claim up-to-date. Need to fill out ten job searches.

I also would like to thank everyone out there. I usually just read (not write) but i had to say thanx.

Just an FYI

Got my claim forms today as well. For two weeks....to get me "up to date."

Still working on the history of some of this for a piece. If I ever get it together I'll let you know. Thanks for all your help!!!!!

Got my claim form today (Fresno). I did refile on April 12.

CA When??? 7 years ago

San Diego 05/11/09 (Monday)

Received Claim form (04/12/ though 04/25)

Two weeks instead of 4 as Jim a few posts up rec'd.

FYI - the Postmark shows ZIP 95691 which is West Sacramento (someone here wanted this info)

Envelope only contained form & envelope - No additional instructions, just as others described above "to bring your claim up-to-date"

And Yes - the Box is checked for work related search -

Christine, Yvonne and everyone else here: Please let all of us know what we can do for the next hearing - We are 4 weeks past due not two. Per Christines phone call to EDD and post about this - fully agree -

And yes, I am thankful that this 2 week claim form has arrived but like many here, am quite past due too and hope edd will be successful in expediting the catch up & flow.

SILVIA  7 years ago

I called EDD and asked about filling out all 10 spaces, your required to list 3 jobs per week.. A total of 6 per claim form..

Christine 7 years ago

I too got one form for the two weeks as everyone else. It was mailed from Sacramento. I would like to know if everyone got theirs from zip code 95691. If so all of this is coming from Sacramento. I did write another letter to the Senator to apprise him of yet another fiasco which could have been avoided if they would have sent all claim forms for the last 4 weeks. How can anyone get caught up if EDD won't catch us up? It just boggles my mind!

Kathy 7 years ago

Christine... got mine from 92423 (San Bernardino). As mentioned earlier, I live in San Dimas (Los Angeles County/San Gabriel Valley area).

Yvonne 7 years ago

In Los Angeles. Received continued claim form for 2-week claim ending April 25; completed it and took it to the post office immediately.

I expect that we will receive the continued claim form for the first 2 weeks of May sometime this week. I have no reason to doubt EDD Sarah's word at this point, since it seems she did exactly as promised when she called me on Friday. (She and Liz are both in Henning's office.) I trust her before I trust anyone else at EDD, because there is a definite failure to communicate going on in the agency at large. There's not even a trickle of information flowing down to the minions who answer the phones, including the supervisors. As I posted last week, most at the agency seem the type of folk that don't know much and have a difficult time saying so. Some even just make up stuff.

Providing the job search history is the least of my concerns at this point; I generally make 10 apps, online or by email, per day. There are only 10 required and I'm sure you're not limited to the six.

piperlori 7 years ago

Yes, I live in L.A. and received mine today. I'm mailing it first thing in the morning...hope to receive a check by Saturday morning since I'm leaving to go my daugher's graduation up in Redding for the weekend.  Had to borrow the money to be able to go of course. I thought they would have mailed us two claim forms because we are still very behind. Like many others, my last extension ended 4.11.

Are the rules for the new fed extension on the EDD web site? Because I did not receive anything other than the claim form. Yvonne, what do you mean by "appointments'? Do we have to go in person for any of these job searches if they don't call us first? Because in my profession (writer) you don't just walk into their office and ask for a job--they would not take kindly to that and it would probably count against me. So I hope not! It really is a case of "Don't call us, we'll call you." (I did mail out my resume to 25 places, had two interviews but no offers as of yet.)  Also, do I understand correctly that we have to look for jobs that are not in our normal and customary profession if they pay as much as, or more than our current EDD award?    piper

tmlane64 7 years ago

well i am glad to see that everyone is recieving there claim forms, I called edd again and again, since my electricity was going to be shut off in 2 days they faxed my forms to me and had me fax them back this was around 11:30 am when I called back at 2:00 pm to see if they recieved them and if they were paid since my last check was 3/28/09 they said I had no funds to pay me a check. I have had them file 3 different times on the third extension since march to now. At 4:36 someone called me back and said that I still need to file for my 3rd extension. I am so fustrated that I do not know what to do. The people who ran out first do not get a claim filed automatically they have to file online or over the phone but if you do not have the funds available yet to you you do not get paid. I was told to call every day until the funds are available does this make sense to anyone. it has been over 6 weeks since I have had any money come in and because I was before April 11th I am being punished. I am glad for all of you, just sad and getting desperate for myself and children. Thanks for letting me vent maybe someone can help me figure out what the heck edd is doing.

When I see the second claim form arrive in the mail this week I will have a grain of faith in anyone from Hennings office. That is just my opinion and I could be wrong. They were right on one thing, claim forms did go out.

When I inquired with EDD about the job searches I was told as long as I have the dates, name of employers and the address of where I mailed my resume it would be fine. She told me where it states to put the name of the person you had contact with to write "mailed in resume". If you answered a blind ad write "responded to blind ad". If you applied online, give the name of the web address such as homedepot.com or ihirehr.com etc. I was also told 3 CONTACTS not appts per week is a requirement. I was also told I don't have to apply for jobs I am not qualified to do but I have to accept a position which is equal to the hourly rate I am recieving in benefits which is $11.25 hr. That is what I did on the form and mailed it in this evening. I also made a copy of my claim form before I mailed it out. Just in case there are any problems with it.

I am in a very specialized field which requires sending mass resume mailings and registering with head hunters and staffing companies.

Good luck eveyone...I really really hope there are second claim forms coming this week!

I live twenty miles from Sacramento, but the claim forms I received were mailed from 92423 (San Bernardino).

Hello All,

I haven't received my claim forms yet. I spoke to the EDD on the 800# last Friday, and my claim had not be filed by the EDD yet. So the rep processed it. I called a special direct number that I have to follow up today in San Jose and spoke to another rep. She asked if I had returned the forms yet, I told her that I had not received them. She kindly informed me that she would send a duplicate for 2 weeks ending 4/26/09....and since it had been awhile since my last check she would send the next 2 weeks ending 5/9/09. I hope they all come in the mail. That way I will continue to smile like all of you.

Rudy 7 years ago

This is off the EDD Website

If you are eligible to file a FED-ED extension, you must follow additional eligibility requirements in order to receive your weekly payments. It is required that you:

Look for work every week as previously instructed by the Department. Fill out Section B on the back of the Continued Claim form with your work search information for each week. Typically, individuals have been instructed to seek full-time work (or in some cases, part-time work) and are required to report contact with a minimum of three employers per week. Accept any offer for work you are capable of performing if the weekly gross pay would be equal to or greater than the weekly benefit amount on your FED-ED extension. You may be disqualified for benefits if you do not accept the job.

Rudy 7 years ago

Go to the EDD website and click on this news release dated May 8, 2009. It gives a different description of work we must apply for.

Further Extended Unemployment Benefits Now Available For Long Term Unemployed Workers

These people are out of touch with reality. I say hand them all their heads on a stick.

Sara 7 years ago

Did not get my claim form in Grass Valley, CA. I called edd today and they actually looked up my info. In the past, they couldn't. They said my claim forms were requested Friday and probably mailed today, Monday. ugh

Alison 7 years ago

Hi. I just received my first Fed Ed claim form today, Monday the 11th. I'm in LA. This one looks a bit different from the others. There is no total benefit amount at the top and you are required to list all of your job searches for the claim period per above. I have completed the form but much like the rest of you, I don't actually trust the EDD to make this an easy, streamlined process. I imagine those of us who have just received our claim forms will be right back here on this very same board two weeks hence because some there will some issue with not receiving checks, etc... Therefore, I suggest we all remain vigilint and continue to post here. Also, thanks to Christine for _all_ of her hard work. I've been desperately searching for a job these past few days, but I have also reached out to the LA Times to get the names of editors we can write to (talk about incompetent.). Anyway, I still intend to get those contacts at the papers for you, and furthermore, any one of us can simply log on to the online edition of our local papers and write to the reporters directly. Most of their bylines are hyperlinked to their email addresses. Just contact them directly. Reporters don't have to wait on a story assignment from their editor. Most good reporters are generating their own ideas, and if you throw them a bone with some meat on it, you can often get their attention. I don't think we should let our elected officials get away with this nonsense just because we've received our claim forms. I doubt that little has changed on the Labor Department's end and, frankly, I think we've all just about had it with the many incompetent fools running our state government.

Budhal 7 years ago

I spoke with EDD last week and to Liz in this Mr. Hennings office. She told me her office does not get involved with claimants and told me she is an office technician. She offered her empathy but could do little for me. I thought to myself this is the directors office?! I called EDD on Friday and was told one claim form would go out for the weeks of 4/18 and 4/25 and when I returned it the claim form would come with my check for the weeks of 5/2 and 5/9. I don't for the life of me understand why they are piece mealing our benefits like this or making up stories as they go along but it really has created more crisis for people who don't need more in their lives. If there is anything I can do to help the cause I am more than willing. I did call the Senators office and they asked me to fax a letter to me. Seems to me they want to know personal stories about how this has harmed them. I was glad to do it if the Senator will read our letters at a hearing and let these people know we are not taking this anymore. These benefits are not free of taxes and we have been taxpayers even in our time of unemployment. I live in Riverside County and I will be going to the recall rally in Corona this weekend too. I want Arnold and all his cronies to come to their knees for what they have done to the people of CA.

God bless all of you and thank you all for your efforts. I am much appreciative.

I couldn't agree with you more! You make a good point. We are paying taxes on this money! Is there any way we can expedite our second claim form. The method they are using to send our checks is insane! We need this aired on the news so the public and others who don't know about this site can be informed.

Hey people, good job!^_^

My issue is a little different but here it goes:

My Original claim expires on 6/20. I am currently receiving my 1st extension which also happens to run out on 6/21!! Someone at EDD said when that happens, I must file a new claim and if that's not approved, tier 2 EUC will automatically begin.

Yvonne 7 years ago

<my electricity was going to be shut off in 2 days> ... TMLane64, where are you located? I had the same problem a week ago but was able to borrow $50 to pay LA Dept of Water & Power. I made them aware of my unemployment last year, they referred me to HEAP, which will pay your past due bill for you, and they also made an arrangement with me to pay a miminum $50 between billing cycles to keep my service going while they await payment from HEAP.

<Yvonne, what do you mean by "appointments'?> Huh, pipertori? I haven't said anything about appointments; must have been someone else. I write as well and the duties of my last job in 2007 included researcher, writer and editor of a newsletter.

<They were right on one thing, claim forms did go out.> Heh. Actually, they were right in 2-3 things - the programming being completed and expediting mailing of claim forms to some of the more than half million destitute claimants.

<it has been over 6 weeks since I have had any money come in and because I was before April 11th I am being punished.> I hear you, Tina, I don't understand the methodology either which is why I'm doing a letter to Sen. Lopez. As I posted before, there are lots of issues that need to be fixed at EDD, from the long wait after first-time filing of a claim to lack of knowledge of EDD personnel from top to bottom to the long, extended wait for any kind of extension, etc. This agency has huge problems that need to be repaired.

<STAMPS are NOW .44 Cents!!> Further making the case for purchasing stacks of forever stamps. I did, so I'm not likely to run out anytime soon, such that the 2 cents hike in first class postage doesn't phase me.

<Let's start with offing the liberals> Whatever. Since that guy y'all elected in the recall ain't a liberal, and since he and Shrub and the rest are directly responsible for ruining the US, I can't imagine what you're talking about. Parts of your post makes absolutely no sense, and have nothing to do with the issues we're dealing with on this site. But whatever.

< I think we've all just about had it with the many incompetent fools running our state government. > Shhh. RG might hear you; he's on "a kill the libruls bent," though political leanings have absolutely nothing to do with this. Even if it did ain't no liberals been in charge of this state for 7-8 years; even when Gray Davis was governor, the right wing Enron people made the state suffer through rolling blackouts and expensive utilities to feed their greed, Silicon Valley went bust, etc., neither of which had anything to do with Davis.

As for what is printed on the claim form, each time I've gotten an extension, it has been delayed and when I finally received the back claim form(s), the tear-off script at the top read the same. Nothing new there. Once you receive a check, the benefit amount and the amount paid, plus the notice about the $25 per week stimulus payment will replace that.

JDMnorCal, from the first filing to the third extension, my claim was always delayed. For the first extension, I received two award notices -- one said that I would get a certain amount, another stated that since I didn't work last year and therefore didn't earn enough to file a claim, I was eligible for the extension. I didn't have to file for either of the first two extensions, and apparently they were correct that they would file the Fed-Ed extension. As I recall, the first extension was one claim period behind, the second and now the third, 2 claim periods past due.

May God richly bless us as we struggle through this time of uncertainty.

Brenda 7 years ago

Received one claim form today as most did yesterday......looks the same with the exception being to fill in the reverse and the lack of a balance at the top....I wish they would take a look at how they designed the work search area for us, I am not sure that it truly fits the type of work searching we are doing these days....Hope these checks start rolling in...we all have needs that arent being met.....how would these politicians feel if they were fearing the loss of utilities and not having food to put on the table.......I too believe the media needs to make the general public aware only those of us going through it know how poor and weak this system is!

piperlori 7 years ago

FYI for anyone who only got one claim form when you should have received two (if your last claimed ended 4.11), just call EDD and ask them to send you another one as you are still two weeks behind for weeks ending 5.02 and 5.09.  They are doing that for me so I can't imagine why they wouldn't do it for anyone else! (There is a way of getting through that only takes 5 minutes--at the most.)

Thanks, Patti E and everyone else who posted such specific info on the job search criteria.  EDD should be posting this stuff as well (I know, I know, what have I been smoking?) thereby saving them so many wasted phone calls dispensing information that could be readily accessed on their web site.  I mean, really. How hard is it to put what Patti just posted about the right way to fill out the job search part on their site?  Especially the part about entering "Blind Listing" in lieu of a contact name.  Could this be on purpose...that they actually WANT people to fill out these forms incorrectly?  Hmmmm.

Yvonne, sorry for the confusion.  Thought it was you who used the word "appointments".  So, you're a writer. also..that's great.  I'm using this time to work on some entrepreneurial writing projects (while looking for work) and faith that through all this I will produce a new kind of writing career. Can't explain it here.

God Bless and thanks again everyone for taking the time to post such helpful information. - piper

Caligirl8111 7 years ago

Hello Cali. got 2 claim forms yesterday periods 3/29-4/11 and 4/12-4/25 I'm in Bakersfield and the claim forms came from San Bernidino but the address the claim forms are going back to is Sac., I felt a LITTLE releaved but not much, we waited sooooooo long for those stupid claim forms how long do you think we will have to wait for our checks? The stub instead of it saying how much we have left it did'nt that scares me it kinda says theres no money in our account to even get a check, these claim forms probably got us off of EDD's back for a week and if those checks dont start surfacing Saturday - Monday there will be hell to pay! Let's keep our fingers crossed, our toes crossed, and eyes crossed if possible. We all seriously need this money REAL BAD. Good Luck to all I hope and pray everyones claim forms come this week.

Caligirl8111 7 years ago

I was told that a day or two after we receive our claim forms we will get our award letter letting us know how much we got approved for, so hopefully today those award letters start surfacing that will help me sleep at nite knowing there is money in our accounts, so it's another waiting game. I will try and stay optimistic with hopes our checks come this weekend no later then Monday

Hi..this is to Piperlori and to Patti,

Re: filling out the back of the form. I thought the "blind listing" was to go in the box that asks for the 'company name and address'. If that is so, what do you write in the box that asks for the 'person contacted'. There is never a person's name on an online job ad that I have seen. Maybe "blind listing" is appropriate there too? As for the 'please explain result', it seems 99% of the time I do not even get back a courtesy reply, much less an interest shown. Do we just repetitively write "no response" all the way down the list?

Truly I wonder if we are all going crazy over nothing figuring out how to fill out the back. To use logic, it seems that with the low staffing evident at EDD it is impossible for anything but a machine to scan the back of these forms to make sure something is written in the first 6 boxes. They will probably not be scrutinized anyway. However it is scary to think that you might jeopardise getting your unemployment check just because you fill a form out incorrectly. Thanks for everyone's comments and help.

Christine F. 7 years ago

Piperlori, you said there was a way to get through to edd in about five minutes, how? I have never been able to get through. By the way, I received my claim form yesterday in Orange County and it was sent from Sac.

Michelle S. 7 years ago

Just to echo the weirdness of EDD...I got my claim form yesterday for just the first two weeks to catch me up or whatever they say. But here's the best part....and by best I mean, EDD-like.

After I received my claim form, EDD sent me a response to one of my numerous emails. This one simply said, "You have no claim at this time." If I had gotten that BEFORE I got my claim form, all of you would have heard my scream from all your homes all over CA.

I think this is proof that they really don't have a clue as to what they are doing.

Hey has anyone gotten an Award Letter?????????????????

Christine 7 years ago

I called EDD also but use the numbers 1243 to expedite my call. It seems to work 70% of the time. I guess the odds could be worse.

I spoke with Andre. He states he will process my second claim form to get me caught up which will go out tomorrow. I laughed when he said they are getting swamped with calls because people did not get enough claim forms. Gosh, who's fault is that one?! He was very nice and you could tell he is questioning this too. Think of all the calls they could have prevented. I feel badly for those even farther behind than those who exhausted claims on April 11th. What a nightmare. I hope to end it soon as I am leaving this not so golden state in a few months. I was born and raised her but I no longer have any desire to live in the most taxed state and most expensive to live in. Jobs are not materializing and more lay offs are taking place at least in my area. Gosh if I was nurse or in the medical field I could probably have a job tomorrow. Who knows what tomorrow will bring. I just keep the faith and hope God is looking over all of us in this very stressful time.

I viewed a comment which I was a bit surprised to read. We all have different opinions and beliefs but the one thing we are all guaranteed is the right to free speech. It is your fifth amendment right. A blog is meant for anyone to comment on even if it is not about the current topic. Not everything has to make sense to everyone and not everyone has to agree. Last I checked, blogs do not have leaders and are meant to bring people together not pick an individual for what they wrote or how they wrote it. Making a general statement is one thing but what I read what not general it was seeking out individuals on this blog they wanted to set straight.

caligirl,

I don't believe anyone has gotten an award letter yet, but do not worry. The claim form once sent back will give you a check in a week. With that check will be another claim form with your $ award upon it, as well as the claim form for the next 2 weeks you are missing. You can then mail that one back immediately and get another check for 2 weeks in only 1 weeks time. That will continue until you are caught up to the current week. So, in other words, you can't get all the back checks at once (so I understand) but your normal two week check amount will come every WEEK instead of every TWO WEEKS until you are caught up. Hope that makes sense. At any rate, this is the way they did if for the second extension when we got behind in our money due. Hang in there and try not to worry. If you got your initial claim form you should be in good shape.

Yvonne 7 years ago

Violet's View, here's how I filled out the job search part of the form:

Company Name: Job Offer Company (or "Blind Listing" if I got it off a job search site such as craigs list or indeed.com)

Company address: 1234 Main St, Anytown USA 56789 (or the web address, if online app)

Person Contacted: Online App (OR if I got it off craigslist.org, I enter the craigs list email address of the job listing)

Etc., etc., etc.

<To use logic, it seems that with the low staffing evident at EDD it is impossible for anything but a machine to scan the back of these forms to make sure something is written in the first 6 boxes. They will probably not be scrutinized anyway.> My thoughts exactly.

So I suppose I'll follow the lead of others here and call them tomorrow re the continued claim form due for the first 2 weeks of this month, but it's ridiculous that we have to call to get them sent out, and it sounds as if they're sending them out as people call. Totally stupid and a lot of unnecessary work, with everything else I'm doing, including drafting the letter to Lopez, keeping the leasing agency at bay, and job searching, among other things.

Christine, where are you going? I've been exploring perhaps moving to Vancouver, BC, Canada.

Hi folks,

I got a call from the Senators office today. Wow, not one but two calls from Amy. She knows what we are all going thru with these claim forms and the grief....my Lord what grief....EDD has put everyone thru. We can't get our money all at once but if we get those second claim forms this week we should be caught up by May 23rd. At least that is what I am hoping cause that is all the time I could buy with landlord and utility companies. I know many can relate so lets keep the prayers going cause I know God has heard us.

Thank you everyone

God Bless

To Violet's View:

As I understand it, this is a good way to fill ou the blind listings:

Under Company: "Blind Listing"

Under address: email address, craigslist job email address, fax #, P.O. box, or just "applied online at (for example) indeed.com".

Under Name: no name listed

Best of luck!

Hello everybody,

I hope I'm doing this correctly, have never posted in blogs before. Anyway, Caligirl wanted to know about anyone getting an award letter, and I did get one today, 5/12/09. It's called a Notice of Determination for Federal-State Extended Duration Benefits (Fed-Ed Extension). It states a weekly amount and a maximum extended benefit amount, and a lot of details.

The important line is the one that says "Your claim for the FED-ED extension IS allowed on your regular claim ....."

I'd like to thank this group for providing so much information and encouragement. You've all been a big help, and it's much appreciated.

Been living in TX and collecting UI from CA for a couple of months but just heard that I may not qualify since TX is not accepting the govt stimulus package for unemployment...does anyone know if I can still collect benefits from CA? I've been getting my tier 2 since living here.

tmlane64 7 years ago

Hi once again,

Well I talked to edd again today 5/12/09, and they again told me that I had no funds in my account. I politely told the lady, that of course I did not have any money in my account, and that is why I need the third extension. She then told me that I would get a call from someone but not sure when. I then told her that was not good enough that I wanted to talk to who ever was involved in doing the extensions. I told her that I have filed 3 applications already and my last check was paid 3/28/09 for 450.00 dollars and that it makes no sense that people who just ran out our getting their claim forms. Now she was very nice through this whole conversation. I then went on and explaind to her that I was faxed my claim forms yesterday by a very kind lady who said if i was in hardship, which we all are, that they would fax me the claim forms and she did. I filled them out and faxed them back to her with in the hour and they recieved them. Then when I called yesterday to confirm that they did recieve all of my claim forms I was told I had no funds in my account and to keep calling until I did. Here is the kicker when I called edd today 5/12/09 I still  have no funds in my account and was told until there is money there for me in my account I can not be paid. I insisted on talking to someone who could explain this non-sensible way that my claim is being treated or I would call every news and media place i could think of for them to help me. She put me on hold at that time, and came back on the phone after about 10 minutes and told me that she was told everyone would be paid by the end of this week now I was faxed 6 weeks of claims and faxed back all six claims from march 29th to May 9th. I will call again tommorrow and see what is told to me I have my doubts that I am going to here good news. If anyone is having the same problem and has found a way to solve it please let me know. I also want to remind everyone that as hard as this is and frustrating we have to remember that we do live in the best country in the world. I am grateful for the freedoms and opprotunity I have. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else. I see other countries and think omg how to people live like that. But when we elect and pay people to do a job whatever it is then it is their responsiblility to be professional and do their job with competence and all of us have had to suffer behind those who are incompetent. But once again I love the USA I just feel sorry for those who cannot do there job like anyone else they should be fired at will.

fustrated but grateful

Hopefully i will get mine today even tho when i would normally get my claim forms was like thursday or friday ill call again to double check tomorrow. i hate the wait.

Christine 7 years ago

Tina,

We have all had your bad experience with EDD. I suggest you call the office of Senator Florez and ask for Amy. She has the ability to communicate with EDD and get someone on your situation immediately. The number to call her is (916) 651-4016. I am willing to bet if you call her first thing this morning you will get things resolved today. Amy called me yesterday to get an update on the claim form situation asking if it was isolated to a few people at which I told her it was everyone.

For everyone else interested in the next joint Senate hearing with EDD, Amy states the hearing will probably occur in mid summer. There are other legislative issues on the table at the moment which prevents them from scheduling this in the immediate future.

I continue to fax the Senator updates on this situation to keep him apprised of the continued miscommunication throughout EDD. As I stated previously the Senator would appreciate individual letters about the hardship EDD has caused with its delays and inability to communicate with claimants.

Thank u very much Mrs. Chang on the info, I was hoping somebody somewhere got an Award Letter. I am afraid we will have a long wait on our cheks, due to the EDD not even being ready to send claim forms out i kinda think they were forced (which is good) but now I think they will have to be forced ONCE AGAIN to pay us, Tina's case is a perfect example, especially when they say everyone will be paid by the end of this week! That's what they told us for 2 moths on our claim forms, let's keep our fingers crossed but dont let our gaurd down with the EDD and get our hopes to high. We all need this SOOOOOOOO much PLEASE anyone who gets a check post ASAP

Thanks

tmlane64 7 years ago

Hi once again,

Christine I called edd and once again I was told that I had no funds, so I called amy and was told because I live in san jose I was not in Senator Florez district, so the lady on the phone gave me another number to call 650-688-6384. I talked to a nice young gentlemen name Tyler who was going to see what he could do, but not soon enough. So I called edd again and talked to a supervisor and here is her explanation to why I am not getting paid. Because my funds ran out before April 11th the computer will not automaitically pick me up that my application has to be put in manually, so that means that since the 11th of april the program was already in place, remind you these are her words, I then told her that I have filed 3 applications with edd for the 3rd extension, she said that there are millions like me and they all have to be put in manually so it is going to take more time. I said well if the computer was already picking up applicants since the 11th why has it taken so long. Her answer was because the program is very complicated. Then I asked if I could please speak to someone who is directly involved with the extensions she said no because they are to busy filing claims and she would not direct me to anyone, she said that they are located in sacramento. so my question is does anyone know how to get a hold of the sacremento office can anyone help me I can't seem to get anywhere with anyone including Amy's office. I am getting scared that I am never going to get this extension and am going to get lost in all this chaos.

I just called EDD, to ask about my check info if it had been mailed.. The person who i spoke to said what check? that the programing for the third extension wasn't completed.. I explained how i had received 2 claim forms on monday and i mail them back same day. Then he said there was no funds and just hanged up on me.. who can i call i am really mad..

caligirl8111 7 years ago

See I am getting paranoid now, I havea bad feeling these claim forms started to magically surface when all of us started to contact higher ups, I really dont think the FED ED is complete yet, I called yesterday becasue I have not received an Award Letter, I think the ones that have will be paid with no problems becasue that is proof their claim for FED ED is filed and complete, the lady told me what I qualified for and for how much but I 4got to ask her about my award letter going out! I will wait for the mail today and if I still dont have it I will call the EDD. Let me know if anyone else gets their award letter I think that is just as important as teh claim forms

Christine 7 years ago

Tina,

I don't know what to offer for your situation and now I am questioning if checks will even get processed when they recieved the claim forms we all mailed back this week. You could call the Director of EDD Patrick Hennings office (916) 654-8210 but they are not attached to the processing centers and will tell you they are with the executive office and not tied into the EDD claims system. They will enter your information online for you but in your case that has been done multiple times. I would also call the Senator for the San Jose district and tell them Senator Florez office told you to call them. It appears you need to get someone involved who can get phone numbers we cannot.

I wish I had better options for you.

tmlane64 7 years ago

Hey Christine I did get a hold of my district and to be honest I happen to fall into a rich district it is real weird how the have the district lines but to be honest I do not think they have had any calls because of the cities involved like Los Alto, Los Gatos, cupertino they are all rich areas and I am sure they do not have this unemployment issue I am in a blue collar area of san jose so I am pretty much screwed thanks for your help though you are a lot of peoples light at the end of the tunnel. And Boy do I feel silvia's and caligirls fears, I am to being told their is no funds and that it will happen when it happens, god help us all. I wish a real person who really can help would step up that is involved with the extensions. good luck all.

Caligirl, I'm trying to be optimistic here and think that most of the EDD folks who answer the phone know very little, if anything at all. I'm assuming the part of the EDD that processes our checks has nothing to do with the call centers. The claim forms have to go through the computer process then are sent out. If the EDD actually has the funds--and isn't this required by law?--then checks should go out. Hoping...

Just called the EDD to check on my claim forms for 4/26 thru 5/9. I was told that the claim forms would come with my check from the previous two weeks. I have read here that some people got two separate letters with 2 weeks of claim forms in each- was hoping that was tha case. If the guy I spoke with has a clue at all (who knows) then no hope of a double check coming asap to catch us up on bills.

Danielle B 7 years ago

Ugh! Where do I begin? I hate the Edd. Everyone there has a big salary a no interest in what's going with (for some of us) the soon to be homeless. I called yesterday morning and had them send out my claim forms for the weeks ending in 5/2 and 5/9. The rep was very polite and even a little entertaining. She hadn't heard that the programming was completed last week because she didn't go into work Monday. She thanked me for "teaching" her something .I sent the first claim forms from weeks 4/18 and 4/25 in on Monday as soon as I received them. I check the system and of course they haven't even received my claim forms yet. Mine usually are paid by Thursday and received by Saturday or Monday at the latest. So it finally happened. I've been hit with the pay or quit if I do not come up with the remainder of my rent by Saturday my three small children and I will be out on the street. I called the edd today to follow up on my claim and the first rude rep told me that there was nothing that she could do and that everyone was in need of their money. I told her I'm sure that they are and that it is a shame that we are all suffering because of the edd's inability to act almost two months ago when the bill was enacted. I then asked to speak with a supervisor who could care less about my situation and told that checks are going to take longer to send out because they will have to read the work search on the back, so expect delays. She said that they have not received my form as of yet and there isn't anyway to expedite it once it is received. I told her that they should be expediting everyones claims because its their fault that were all behind and that it should not have taken this long. She said sorry, with an attitude and then said have a nice day when I told her I was going to contact the senators office. Mrs. Lure Rodriguez. Rude and unable to help and unwilling to help. So now my children and I are due to be evicted and assume that checks will be delayed further due to the work search. O already used to fill that out to keep track of progress, or lack there of. It just seems like they want us to jump through hurdles and then punish us on top of that. I say put me to work if you're going have me running around like a dog doing tricks.

Christine 7 years ago

I am going to call EDD tomorrow before 8 a.m. which will get me right into the automated check information system. If no check has gone out I will call again on Fri before 8 a.m. I think that is the best way to find out if any checks were paid. I don't believe anything these call center people say. Heck, they may not even have access to check information. God only knows.

SILVIA  7 years ago

I keep on calling EDD until i got a rep that was very polite and helped me out and just said to wait till tomorrow or fri. My check should be processed by then... She said some of the reps don't know what they are doing.. She even gave me the balance of my claim.

Caligirl8111 7 years ago

Hey all I called the EDD to rest assure and was told by a Sup. that they would have not sent us claims if there was no money, so if you were mailed a claim and send it back they will immediatley process the check(s) as soon as they get the claims, it will be as usual, mail off Monday they get it Wed. cut your check thur. and in the mail box Saturday no later then Monday, so hope this helps everyone cool down, and maybe we can stop calling now so that they can process claim forms and checks. We will resume calling on Friday if the system does not have a check on file for us

Caligirl, I agree. The best thing to do is check the automated system which will confirm a check went out. The you can guage when it will arrive. I am not going to panic unless I have a reason to. There were times in the past I was told no check went out and then I called the automated system the following day and there it was.

If a check was cut Weds it will be in the auto system by before 8.m. Thurs. The system is updated once by 6 a.m. for checks cut the previous day.

tmlane64 7 years ago

Well caligirl I wish that was true, again they faxed me my claim forms and had me fax them back, when I called on my claim forms i was informed that they did recieve the forms but that i had no funds to be paid. so if that was the case that no claim forms will be sent out unless the money was there I must be the one person who they are definitely screwing. I do not understand this at all. Dannielle all the 3 day notice is doing is telling you to pay or quit if you go and talk to them they probably will extend it. What will happen if they do not extend it then you will be given a eviction notice and then you can go in front of judge and explain your situation this takes time and most property management companies just want there money so before you panic to much sweetie try to talk to your manager and if she needs proof on you waiting for a check call edd right their and have them explain it to her. I was in property management for years and my mom still is so I know what they can and should do. good luck. I am calling all the numbers again wish me luck.

Brenda 7 years ago

Just got off the phone with EDD (automated) and system says my check has been cut today...so folks it looks like they are trying to roll these out pretty quickly once we do get our claim forms in....Best of luck to everyone!

Caligirl8111 7 years ago

I have never heard of them faxing claim forms, has anyone else? Have yo had that done b4 Tina? I am praying for you and everyone else keep calling until you get someone who will help you right, kepp calling until you are happy with the answer you get. Hey Tina how does the eviction think work? step by step, I guess my question is how long do you actually have in the house b4 you are forced to leave? I have been here for 2 years does that make a difference?

Caligirl8111 7 years ago

OH COOL CONGRADS Brenda you should have your checks by Friday, hey Brenda how many checks were cut? When did you get your claim forms? When did you mail them back? HOw did you do your work search?

Thanks and I hoep you get your check(s) very soon

Christine 7 years ago

I have heard of faxing claim forms. A friend of mine was in dire straights (needed a refill for insulin but had not recd a check to pay for it) a while back due to claim forms not getting to him on one of the earlier extensions. He faxed them and got his check processed that week.

Gail 7 years ago

Who is it that need a direct number to EDD claims processing? Send me an e-mail at Gailsmith.smith@gmail.com.

Mark 7 years ago

Gail--why don't you just post that direct number?

Christine 7 years ago

Gail-we would all appeciate the number. Posting it would sure help everyone.

Gail 7 years ago

Because I can't. There is no recording, just people from the EDD answering it. If you would like it just send me an e-mail and I will share.

vincent 7 years ago

whats your e mail address?

Yvonne 7 years ago

Marie at EDD Office 186 says that it is a "burden" answering our calls about claim forms, and hearing our woes regarding evictions, utility shut-offs and such. Yes, that is what she said when I got her on the phone and requested a 5/2-5/9 claim form.

She told me the same thing as someone else here reported--that it would be attached to the next check I received. I asked her why others have been told that a claim form for that particular period would be mailed out immediately, yet she's communicating something totally different.

I said that EDD have thoroughly demonstrated a total failure to communicate from top to bottom. She blathered about the lack of communication from Sacramento and got her rant on about the date changes for the FED ED programming.

Remaining civil despite the fact that she was barely doing so (sounded to me as if she was becoming hysterical), I asked again if she would send me a form; she then checked my file and told me that it would mean I'd get FOUR(?) forms. I laughed and said, "So what? I promise you I'll only be paid once for that claim period, so it doesn't matter."

This is when she said, "It's a BURDEN taking 50 calls like yours every day." I told her it's not as much of a burden on her as it is on us, especially since our basics for survival are being threatened. I told her that she has a job, so her survival isn't at stake. I said that we're unable to find jobs and are forced to live meagerly through unemployment. She kept whining about her burden, and I told her that taking calls from us is her job and if she doesn't like her job, she should give it to someone who might like it. I told her to give me her job and I'd do a better job of it.

She sniped that I should fill out an application (nevermind that they've received like 13K apps for what, 500 jobs) and if I'm qualified, they'll hire me. I asked her once more if she would send the continued claim form. She said she was doing it right then. I said thank you, asked her name and what office she was in, and we disconnected.

We shared other bon mots, but this was the gist of the conversation. I'm sharing it here because I found her response to be totally appalling.

Some people have no CSM skills at. all.

Gail 7 years ago

Yvonne-It is their job. they have gotten use to doing nothing, that when it comes time to doing it, they resent everyone. But thats okay you set her straight. Well said : ) You may want to do a follow-up call to make sure it does get done.

I was fortunate to get someone very kind, understanding, and knowlegable. She promised to send out 4 weeks of claim forms on Monday and I got them today : )

Christine 7 years ago

Gail,

"Because I can't. There is no recording, just people from the EDD answering it. If you would like it just send me an e-mail and I will share".

Why can't you share the number with everyone? Everyone here has shared numbers and contact info. to help us as a group

BEN 7 years ago

Got one claims form today for the weeks of 4-12 and 4-19. Roseville, Ca

Gail 7 years ago

Christine,

I am not one to betray a friend. If this number is posted anywhere she will lose her job. The number will get disconnected as other numbers have in the past. I would hope you would respect my wishes, as it is my desire to help on the blog, but just not the way you request.

Christine 7 years ago

Gail

I understand. Thank you for clarifying the reason.

Yvonne 7 years ago

Thanks, Gail. You're right; it IS her job, so she shouldn't be whining about performing the duties of her job. She's blessed to have a regular paycheck; even during the short furlough period ordered by that guy they elected governor in the recall, EDD was one of the very few agencies who were not affected.

It's just one more example of poor customer service by a state agency that is supposed to serve the people.

Calgirl8111 7 years ago

Hey Cali has anyone else other then Lucky Brenda called the automated system to check to see if their check(s) were cut today??????????????????

doug 7 years ago

I called this morning and it had not been cut yet. they wont update till six am tommorow

Caligirl8111 7 years ago

Thanks Doug, ok so they update at 6am not all thru the day thanks for that! Please post if it is different tomorrow I will as well. let's all keep each other in the loop

Thanks

Robert 7 years ago

just got mine today and when i called earlier to conferm that it was on its way, the girl at EDD was kind enough to send my next one out to catch up today. so far the call center people have been very good to me. i wish i caught her name though.

Martha 7 years ago

I called the automated system and my check is on its way. Thank God and thank you everyone for the info, the moral support and most of all for your understanding. I still want to pursue this problem with EDD. Claim forms and checks are wonderful but the manner in which we had to go about to get them is just not right.

Karen 7 years ago

When I received my first claim form for ending week 4/25 on Monday, I was prepared with job info and filled out the form and mailed it directly back. When I called this morning the check had been issued. Phew!!!

I'll post again when I receive it, but normally when I have sent in the form on a Monday in the past, I would receive the check on a Saturday, so we'll see.

When I called the call center yesterday to have them send me out the second claim form I was told that I would have to wait until I received my check to get the next one due to me. When I told her that others had been helped by having them sent out right away she totally brushed me off and asked if I had any more questions! I very politely thanked her for "not helping me". I wish they would get it together. I can only pray that they don't mess up on the money!

Good luck to all with the money and jobs.

Karen

I have located these emial addresses and direct numbers for EDD Representatives. I don't know if they can be of help but I thought I would provide the info. It can't hurt right? Please don't shoot the messenger if you hit a dead end with them. :)

Hey to all of those who called teh system and verified their check(s) have been cut CONGRADS but I have a question did you have 1 or 2 cliam forms? Did you get your claim forms on Monday and send them off that same day?

Martha 7 years ago

Caligirl-I had one claim form

Marc 7 years ago

I sent my one claim form in in Monday from Fresno, CA and it only takes onr day to go to SAc from Fresno. I called to see if my check was cut and it has not. I typically mail on Monday and on Wed at 6am I can verify the check has been cut. I am getting frustrated again, so close but so far. I read about emailing Gail for the phone number, is this just to request additional claim forms?

Gail 7 years ago

Marc,

The number is available to those who primarily have not received claim form, as they may need manual assistance from claims reps. There are indivduals that have not heard anything, and may be missed : ) In addition, with the amount of checks being processed it will take more time before we receive them. I too was able to verify my check in the same timeframe as you. But as time went on it is now taking longer. FYI, I called the regular 800 number and the rep there sent out all four for me. So if they tell you to wait, you may have to ask them nicely, and share that others have been getting 4 weeks of forms, or better yet...ask for a supervisor : )

tmlane64 7 years ago

ok after I posted the last time i called edd again, the lady i talked to could not believe that my claim was not paid yet and sent me directlly to the people who cut the checks. A very nice lady name Laura, told me she would love to cut me a check for all my passed weeks, but for some reason my application still had not been filed. So she was going to talk to her supervisor to see what the heck was going on hopefully something will be done by tommorrow. Right after I got off the phone with laura, Angie the lady who had me fax my claim forms in called me and said she checked on my claim and it still was not filed she to was going to try to find out why and expidite my claim forms. I keep pushing on and I keep calling everyone I possibly can. I will not lose hope in my country because of all of you I have gained much hope about the people out there that care of course about themselves but also about their neighbor and maybe this is why this is happening to pull us together as a nation because as the old saying goes United we stand tall but devided we can fall as i can tell we definitly are uniting.

god bless

Tina

tmlane64 7 years ago

OK Calligirl, When you have a 3 day notice given to you they are given you 3 days to pay rent or leave, but they can not force you to leave. The next step is to file what they call a unlawful detainer, you then have 5 days to answer the eviction notice and file it with the court clerks office which is not hard. After that you will recieve a notcie from the courts what date your hearing will be the time and place you must go to that hearing. Now the property management probably have a lawyer don't worry no big deal because the judge will hear your case and decide if the eviction should go through. They will ask you if you have the rent and back rent so when you get money make sure you put that aside so you will have it then they come up with a way to keep you in your home and satisfy the management company. As long as you show good faith and that you do want to pay your rent it should be fine just remember to file an answer only to the unlawful detainer you also can get all court fee waived it is not that hard just time consuming if you have any more ? ask I will try to answer you, good luck to all have faith. This whole process from the 3day notic to the move out if you are evicted is about 35 to 45 days good luck

Inez 7 years ago

I received my award letter today. I also sent in my claim form Monday and checked the automated system a few minutes ago but the check has not been issued. I'm going to check again tomorrow. I'll keep everyone updated. I'm in Monterey County.

Angelyc 7 years ago

I was in the same situation as any of you so I thought I would post to give someone some reassurance. I got my claim forms on Monday, mailed them the same day before the last mail pickup. I live in Merced, CA. Called this morning WEd (13th) and my check was mailed today. So just hang in there. I only had a claim form for 2 weeks though , I only mailed in one form.

Patti E. 7 years ago

I have been hearing about award letters, but did not receive one either with or separately from my claim form . Did those of you who received one get it separate from your 4/12 claim forms?

Christine 7 years ago

No awared letter yet and no check has been issued per the automated system this morning. Will see what Friday brings.

Marc 7 years ago

Christine,

I also called and no check payout for me either in Fresno. I mailed my form immediately on Monday. Typically I get a check paid message by 6am on Wednesday. I am starting to get frustrated.

Marc 7 years ago

Christine,

I noticed over the past day or too, you seem pretty short in your responses. You have been the most instrumental person that have given us all hope. I just wanted to say hang in there and thank you.

Marc 7 years ago

two.. sorry, its 6:30 am and I cant type for shit.

Brian 7 years ago

I also called and no check payout for me either in San Francisco. I mailed my form immediately on Monday.

Christine 7 years ago

Mark,

I remain positive this will all work out for everyone. I wish I had more information aside from what we have all posted to date. I also don't want to be repetitive with information. I think some of us are in a holding pattern. I encourage everyone to write your personal letters to Senator Florez to tell your own story and experience in dealing with EDD. I don't know the exact date of the next Joint Senate hearing but was told by Amy a couple of days ago it would be sometime over the summer.

Thanks Mark and you hang in there too!

Brenda 7 years ago

I received & mailed only 1 form for W/E 4/18-4/25 by 6am Tues (well Monday really its was put in the wrong PMB) I immediately filled it out using advice I got on here since I hadnt been recording all of my employment searches. I felt I had little to go on such as blind faxes and e-mail. I did complete all 10 spaces. I called yesterday morning to check the automated knowing in my heart it wouldnt have been cut yet but to my surprise it was which is the miracle I needed since they were about to repo my only vehicle. I have been fortunate with my processing time in the past (provided it isn't lost in transit) as well I usually get 3-4 day turn around time or my checks get lost and it takes me a month to get it replaced. I am in the Central Valley and my postal worker told me that mail sent from inside the post office is processed almost immediately due to the small size of our town so I make a habit of droppng mine off inside to them at the wall drop. Always make sure you have the correct postage (44 cents now) and make a habit of putting a return address. With that said I now wish all of us the best of LUCK in getting our CHECKS caught up and JOBS to begin to bring our lives back to a much happier place. Have a GREAT day to all of you!

Tel 7 years ago

No check available here in San Jose, CA yet. Talked with EDD and was informed they haven't received my claim forms yet and that it takes 10 days for them to process, whatevers! The lady was really nice, but nice won't pay my bills. I'll just call again tomorrow to check the system. I have faith and hope it will be in tomorrow! That's all I can have at this point.

Cross your finger's everyone!

CA When??? 7 years ago

Thursday 05/14/09

Oh no!!! Listened to the recording - no check has been cut. Trying not to panic - claim went in Tuesday AM outbound (mail/form didn't arrive until 4:50 Mon with last outbound at 5pm). All of the ten lines/searches were filled out.

Regarding getting through to EDD - tried several times yesterday, used the prompts posters have suggested - maybe some geographical areas can't get through?

Wanted to request the other missing back weeks as many here have. Especially concerned for June 1st around the corner - rent!!! Keep borrowing for the groceries and everything else that has to keep going -.

Any suggestions for getting through that haven't already been posted? Thank you!

tlcullen 7 years ago

No check cut for me this morning per the automated system. I am in Orange County. I mailed my claim form on Monday. During the past months, it usually takes until Friday if I have mailed my claim form on Monday, so I will not begin to worry yet. Hang in there everyone!

Caligirl8111 7 years ago

No Check for me either yesterday or today per system, the rep I spoke to this morning said they are cutting cheks all week all day until everyones cheks are out and caught up and teh system may have a delay in reporting if your check was cut, so there is hope the checks may not have been cut this morning but maybe this afternoon or evening, the automated system may or may not have the info. so I plan on calling this afternoon and if nothing this evening, I have a feeling there will be a change.

Inez 7 years ago

Thanks Caligirl for that info. I also mailed my claim form out on Monday before the last pick up at the post office and called the automated system today but no check. Usually a check would be cut by now. But hopefully its as you and christine say, they have a lot of checks to process and the automated system may not have the info.

Caligirl8111 7 years ago

Yeah Inez I think (and Hope) that this is true, they probably are processing sooooooo many claims and checks some people have two claims and checks so the system may be a little slow on being updated, call and speak to a rep that will help you or just call this evening and check the system again

Good Luck to all let's keep our fingers crossed on this one, the good news is some people ARE reporting checks being cut for them so as soon as someone gets a check PLEASE POST

John 7 years ago

Bay Area, Fremont... finally got my claim form

Now the fun of filling out the back... I feel sorry if anyone really did have to read this, these boxes don't give much room, which is fine with me... not that anyone could read my writing anyway =o]

I especially like the last box "Results: Please explain"...

The box is only 1 1/4" wide... by the time you write the result not sure what could fit in the "explain" part...

I know their process could be greatly improved and should be, not sure how to feel though, kinda glad its here at least, course I won't really get any sleep until I see an actual check clear my bank, which I'm sure it will, at least I was lucky enough to sell some old dust covered belongings to keep my going, just not much left in the way of old dust covered stuff...

Much thanks to all that helped get them on the ball!

Patti E.  7 years ago

Checked wiht EDD at 7:30 this moring through the auto system- my check, of course has not been cut (I received and mailed my forms Tuesday). I have high hopes for tomorrow.

The system really does only update at 6am daily, so calling more than once a day is moot. you can call any time after 6am for updated info for the day.

andrew 7 years ago

i recevied my 1st check from the fed ed, but it was just a check and no claim form for the next two weeks.

Caligirl8111 7 years ago

OH S*it are you serious Andrew? When did you get the check? When did you get the claim form to submit for that check? When did you end yor tier 2? Thanks and this is good news! Call the edd and request a claim form for the new weeks

Caligirl8111 7 years ago

HEY ANDREW what part of Cali. are you in??????

caligirl8111 7 years ago

Hey Cali. new info for you

I just got off the phone with EDD........AGAIN! She said that the phone systems ARE indeed delayed, and she said not to worry. She said the checks for FED-ED are coming from a totally different place (West Sac), so her advice was not to just go by the EDD phone recording. She said that as long as you fill everything out completely, you'll get a check by next Monday or Tuesday at the latest. She said in the past, the reason why the EDD check info was so accurate, is because the checks were essentially coming from the same building (San Bernardino), but now they ARE in fact delayed with the payment prompt, so sit tight and the checks will be rolling thru

Mrs. Chang 7 years ago

Hi again,

It's Thu 5/14/09 and my UI check finally arrived for the weeks ending 4/25 and 5/02. Stangely enough, the date issued is 5/12/09 (I mailed my claim form on 5/11, so that was fast work or they already had it ready). The check comes from San Bernardino.

There is no claim form with the check, so I will follow that up. There is a claim balance, though, which informs me that this isn't the end of it, so that's reassuring. Maybe they're overwhelmed.

How long can we last with UI? We have to get jobs, but there don't seem to be any. We'll have to adjust to a different lifestyle, at the rate the layoffs are going, and I can't quite imagine the big picture, or I'm afraid to imagine it.

Have a great day, everyone!

Mrs. Chang

Caligirl8111 7 years ago

Thanks for the info

caligirl8111 7 years ago

Hi Caligirl,

I'm in San Francisco, and yes, my award letter arrived 5/12.

Mrs. Chang

Mark 7 years ago

No claim form with the check? What's up with that? And haven't received my check yet but didn't get the form in the mail until Tues. morning so don't expect it so soon.

Caligirl8111 7 years ago

Thank you Miss Chang for the fast response, and good luck on getting that claim form!

Hey everyone else I was told by the nice lady at the EDD that checks were being processed and mailed all day yesterday today and tomorrow for the ones that mailed off there forms on Monday-Tuesday, so we should have them by Satuday-Tuesday, she said not to sweat the auto system, but tomorrow may or may not be updated, she was able to tell me specificly that they were processing my 4 weeks of checks as we speak so good news hang in there we are almost there

slris 7 years ago

Hi everyone,

I am so glad to have found this forum as EDD has kept me in the dark in past few weeks. I, too, just received a claim form from 4/12/09 to 4/25/09. However, I am hesitant to fill out the job searches history because I didn't look for work for 1 week during this period. I did have many search records for previous weeks...Should I change the dates and hope they won't find out...or just leave that week blank? Any advices would be appreciated.

Caligirl8111 7 years ago

SLRIS, if you leave it blank you will be disqulaified from the FED ED it specifically states this on the EDD web site, if I were you I would just change the dates theres no harm in that, you did apply just mixed the dates up it wont hurt, but not putting anything down will. I have to admit on a week of mine I changed the dates too, cuz I wanted to fill in all 10 blanks

Marc 7 years ago

I just got off the phone with a very nice supervisor and she informed me that my check was authorized and issued today. Claim forms are supposed to be issued with checks but it to be on the safe side she said it good that I requested them. I have been getting through by using the channel that I have missed my appointment or calling in for the appointment (Option 3) and bypassing the (I can only take your info people). The supervisor sent out my claim forms for the next two weeks to bring me up to speed on my claim.

Inez 7 years ago

Mark,

Thanks for the tip on how to get through faster. Mrs. Chang mentioned something interesting. Her check was issued the day after she sent in her claim form. I emailed EDD last week asking about my situation and received an email from them today that stated that my fed ed extension was approved on 5/9/09 and a check was processed on 5/10/09. This doesn't make sence because I didnt receive my claim form till 5/11/09 and still have not received a check. So confusing. I'm going to just wait till tomorrow and see what happens.

andrew 7 years ago

modesto ca. it was weeks ending 04/25/09 it the claim form came on monday and the check today but no new form for more weeks. o well check mail tomorrow. goodluck!

Caligirl8111 7 years ago

Inez maybe they meant your claim forms were mailed on the 10, that would make more since, right? FED ED filed on 9th, claim forms mailed on 10th and you got them on the 11th (just a thought who knows dealing with EDD), maybe they have our first set of checks ready when claim forms are printed and mail them as soon as they get the claim forms. They do have to hurry up to get all of us caught up so that it is not Kaotic for them or us anymore, I was told today by a rep my checks were issued today (auto system had no record), I hope that I get them tomorrow since it seems like everyone else is getting theres next day, but the rep said I should have them by Tuesday man I hope it does'nt take that long! Claim forms were mailed out last friday afternoon and most of us got them Monday, so that seems pretty fast

Dennis 7 years ago

Hi, I mailed my claim forms for weeks 4-18 to 4-25 in on Tuesday 4-13. Called EDD this afternoon, and was told that my check was cut today, and will be mailed on Friday. Also informed EDD that new claim forms were not being sent with checks. Was told that EDD is still testing the system, and that follow up claim forms were sent out seperatlly on 4-12.

Marc 7 years ago

Dennis, did you mean 5-12?

Karen 7 years ago

Here's the scoop from Norther CA......Got my claim form Monday, filled it out and mailed it back immediately, called automated system yesterday, Wednesday, and a check had been issued....YEA! Got my check today, Thursday but no claim form attached! MOAN.....have to call them again! When does this end? I called and luckily got a very nice person (willing to help) but she had to transfer me to someone that turned out to be in San Diego. They are now sending out (today, she said) claim forms for w/e 5/02 and 5/09. She said that she had heard that there was some kind of glitch with no claim forms attached to checks (so what else is new?). There was however a stub attached telling me how much money I have left in the fund. One check doesn't catch me up on my rent or other bills but I somehow feel blessed that I got it. We'll all have to be diligent for a while longer until this all gets straightened out!

Good luck to all!

Karen

Istvan 7 years ago

Called EDD 3 times today and each answer was different. I called in regards to not having received my 2nd claim for to bring me up to date. I was told Tuesday it was being mailed immediately after not receiving it today, I decided to call and get an answer. After 3 attempts I was told they messed up and were sending me a duplicate and was also told to shred it when I receieve it.

They told me my check was authorized but not to expect it before Tuesday and that my next claim for will be attached and to send it in immediately.

What a runaround!! I really believe EDD LIES and that they are holding on to these funds to earn extra interest for ARNIE! I will advise if and when I receive my check/form/award/answers.

Dennis 7 years ago

I'm sorry. Yes, I meant 5-12.

DD 7 years ago

Hi! I know this is off topic for you guys but you all seem to be very informed so I thought I'd at least try... :)

I am due to run out of unemployment at the end of May. This is just my INITIAL claim. Are there any extensions for the newly unemployed like me? Or is there somewhere you can direct me to get this information?

Thanks in advance.

doug 7 years ago

DD

you will get an extention. check out the EDD web set and read all "latest news" section

Caligirl8111 7 years ago

DD absolutley you will get the extensions, you will be rolled over automatically into tier one which is for 13 weeks after that if you are still unemployed you will be rolled over into tier 2 which is for 7 + 13 weeks a total of 20, then if you are still unemployed and it is b4 Dec.1,2009 you will be rolled over into FED ED which is what we are on now. THese extensions only apply if you do not qualify for another claim if you've earned enough wages to qualify for another claim then you will start a new claim. Hope this helps if not go to the EDD web site and read about Extensions EUC

DD 7 years ago

This group is so wonderful!! I appreciate your quick responses, Doug & Caligirl!!

I hope everyone gets their Fed ED claims paid and flowing with ease. Keep pushing forward.. We will all find jobs in the near months!

Thanks again, for answering a question off your main topic!!

CA When??? 7 years ago

Follow up to 05/14/09 AM post. Never did get through to EDD - (to request a claim form for 04/26/ through 05/09 as many of you have been doing) for weeks 3 & 4 of third tier. Very surprised/thankful, the form for these weeks arrived in today's mail!

A post 5 hrs. ago from Dennis said he was told they were mailing them separately 05/12 - this makes sense since today is the 14th. Hopefully anyone else out here that hasn't been able to get through to request the past due weeks (3 & 4) will automatically receive their claim forms too!

Thank you again to all of you for providing info each step of the way. Thank you!

Hi Everyone,

Well I was busy today beside applying for jobs I had to go to my 14 year olds last baseball game, he pitched hit a triple, double and a sacrafice fly he won the game so it was a really really good day. I got hold of edd and as a group effort from Laura, Angie and their supervisors they filed my claims forms that I had faxed and cut my 3 checks and mailed them today. But what was great is they rallied around my situation and collectively came up with a solution so I personally want to say thanks to Laura, Angie and all who were involved God Bless you. These women though knew what they were doing, they never gave false hope they just dug in and got the job done, if all of the edd employees worked the way they did that office would be alot smoother and knowledgeable another great thing they did was not make excuses they would say well let see what I can do but again made no promises. I want to let you know that my 26 year old had her birthday may 5th and I couldn't do anything for her but watch my granddaughter which was a blessing. I was very sad and felt so worthless but saturday is my youngest birthday and he will be 15. But I raised some great kids my son Matt told me that every year his present is knowing that he has a mom like me. I know he was just saying that to make me feel better and it did. So anyways it looks like I am going to get to give him a birthday after all. Thank you for this site but I know are fight is not over.

God Bless

Tina

after calling edd to resend the claim form, i finally got my claim form and mailed it right away on thursday! can't wait to get the cheese...

Christine 7 years ago

Good morning everyone,

I called the automated system this morning but still no check. I have not received the second claim form they were to mail out on Tues or an award letter. I called EDD many times yesterday but could never get a person who had access to my claim so I will try again this morning. Just have to be persistent and hope today I am successful in speaking to a supervisor. I am happy to hear others are hearing their checks were processed and things are finally moving along for some. I will keep you posted. Best to you all.

Brian from San Francisco 7 years ago

Good Morning Everyone,

I received only one claim form on Monday for the weeks "4/12/09 to 4/25/09". I mailed it out on the same day. I called up EDD today for check information and my check was Paid on May 15. I guess I will received the claim form for weeks "April 26 to May 9" with my check. I hope this is helpful.

Just called EDD and 2 checks are on the way...

Called EDD this morning, check has been paid today, May 15!

Christine 7 years ago

I finally spoke to a Manager in the Oakland Primary Call center. She faxed claim forms for the 4 weeks 4/18-4/25-5/2-5/9 which are hand written, not computer generated. They did not have the part B to complete. I faxed them back to the Manager and attached a copy of the part B I had completed on the 4/18/-4/25 form just to make sure nothing else gets in the way of processing my checks. I did not have a blank part B so I couldn't send the work searched for 5/2-5/9. I attached a cover sheet to her asking for another Part B for those weeks. The manager told me she will get my claim forms processed today and to mail the originals to the Oakland address she provided to her attention. They will only do this one time for the life of the claim and checked to make sure I never did this in the past. I am willig to bet I will get the missing 5/2-5/9 claim form today at which I will prompty complete part B-copy it and sent to the manager in Oakland just to make sure I am complete on all ends.

I don't know what happened to the claim form I sent back on Monday but it is not in their system as received and I cannot wait for them to find it among millions of others. I mailed it from inside the post office so who knows what happened. Thankful I actually spoek to a person who did something. I so want this to end for all of us.

Hi Everyone,

I received one claim form for 04/12 - 04/25 on Monday. I sent it back on Tuesday morning. I called the automated system this morning and a check was cut May 15th! I filled out six job searches, some were "blind listings" and some I had the full information for. Sounds like they are actually doing their job. I'll let you know when the check comes & if the other weeks of claim forms are attached. I haven't called to request them. I'm hoping they will arrive in todays mail or with the check early next week. If not, they'll hear from me, another complaining caller!

I'm in Los Angeles area by the way.

(San Jose, CA) Received two claim forms for 4/12-4/25 and 4/25-5/9 on Monday, mailed back out on monday. Called automated system this morning and check for both claims were mailed out 5/15. It's coming peeps, slowly, but it's coming. Hope this helps.

Still not understanding why some people are getting award letter, checks and second claim forms while others are not. Isn't the EDD system centralized and processing everything on the same basis? The way the EDD works (or doesn't) is a mystery to me.

Christine 7 years ago

Mark,

I am just as confused as you are. In reading some of the past postings I noticed some people got checks issued out of San Bernardino and some out of Sacramento. I was told the all checks were being processed in West Sacramento this past week. When I spoke to the Mgr in Oakland this morning she said there are a number of problems which resulted after the programming was completed. She is in Oakland and handling things for claimants all over CA. She also states there are 6 processing centers but Oakland is the primary. What a mess and we are right in the middle of it. Hang in there and hopefully by the end of the month our benefits will be paid in a more efficient manner. Until then, I just cringe with what tomorrow will not bring...that being a check.

Mark 7 years ago

Christine, Thanks for that. You've been a heroine in all this and I echo what others have said in appreciating all your efforts. I was, for the most part, just venting. But it is frustrating. By the way, I just called the EDD through the standard 800 number and got the recording that they couldn't respond to the call. Again, is there a better, more direct number people can call if they are having problems?

Marc 7 years ago

I called the automated system this morning and my check was paid out as of today which the Supervisor told me yesterday that it had been. Christine, U mentioned that someone stated their check came from Sacramento? If that is the case maybe they are doing it by area. I noticed that So. California seemed to get their claims processed first and checks received first. Hopefully, I will get mine today if coming from Sacramento. I am expecting my other claim form that was supposed to be sent out yesterday as well. Christine good luck with all of your claims and paperwork. I see an end coming to this mess very soon.

Christine 7 years ago

Now I know what they mean when they say "show me the money"! ha ha. If I don't keep some humor about me I would have checked myself into a psych ward by now and then it would be "one flew over the cookoos nest". I am already having long conversations with my dogs and yes folks they answer me. :)

tmlane64 7 years ago

Hey Christine,

I called the automated phone this morning at 6:00 am all of my weeks were paid 6 of them today, I keep tearing up because of you. If you do not know what you have at least done for me let me tell you. After finding this site insetead of seating and just hoping I took action, I called everyone you told me too. I called edd over and over and eventually got someone who not only knew how to do their job, but who was compassionate to my situation. (Thanks Angie and Laura) but most of all thank you Christine from your power and strength I drew off of it and today I was told the money I was so desperately needing was paid. Christine my bills will be paid and I will not lose everything and my son who so much deserves a birthday will also get one. But besides all that thank you for giving me my purpose back I know know matter what I am worth something and as diligently as I persude getting my money is how I am as an employee and look forward to getting a job and someone who does hire me will be very lucky. Thank you again from them bottome of my heart you are my angel I wish you and your family the best of luck through this terrible time. Thank you again Christine.

Forever grateful

Tina

Called EDD again this morning- they cut mu check for the first two weeks! Yes! Now heres hoping the next two weeks get here before the first of the month.

I did speak to a supervisor in regards to people not receiveing their second two weeks of forms along with thier check- of course she denied that is possible. Asked if there was any way to get my claim forms faxed as I have a pay or quit on my house- it was a resounding no. Asked again for good measure- any way at all - no again. I'm not sure how some people managed that one, but I glad that you were able to.

Sounds like they are getting it in gear, or at least have a start on it.

Hang in!~

Tina-We all have a purpose, it is just not what it used to be. Our struggles are not something to be ashamed of but to share with others in their deepest and darkest hours. Our plight brought on by an entire nations economic downfall was no small oversight and will be something we will learn from, look back on and become a better people in spite of our difficulties.

My mother used to tell us "Love equals sacrifice and in the end you are judged by love".

The love and compassion shared amongst all of us is a far greater gift than the fight we share with our government.

Happy Birthday to your son and the mother who knows love equals sacrifice.

We are just one small voice as we stand alone, we are the roars of a million lions when we stand together.

God Bless~

Christine your words are inspirational and encouraging, thank you for giving us all hope and faith and most of all being our Angle of Light that tomorrow will bring better things for us all. I never thought of calling EDD to complain and fight for my money because I thought that I was so lucky to have them give me the money in the first place, but after finding this site I realized not only do I have the right to ask, but I can demand them to give me the money that I deserve and worked for all these years. I have dignity and I can hold my head up high now because of you. Thank you for helping us all through these difficult times. Everyone's situations is different and I know when I say this I speak for us all......THANK YOU for BELEIVING.

God Bless you all.

Christine 7 years ago

Te,

I am humbled by your words and honored to have been given the opportunity to contribute to the greater cause. I was born with the gift of tenaciousness and I have spent the majority of my life fighting for the rights of others. If I can inspire or motivate others to stand up to the Goliaths in our world it brings me an enormous amount of satisfaction and joy. Thank you, your all terrific.

We should all hold our heads up high, be proud and know self worth is not in what others see in us but what we see in ourselves.

George 7 years ago

Does anyone know what will happen if we didn't fill in "section B"? I incidentally wrote down every application/email I sent to employers as far as applications go so I can call UI tomorrow and ask if I can send the list in separately but am I kicked out now? I looked over the form a number of times, didn't notice the box checked so sent it in, (it looked exactly alike the previous ones...)only to get a letter a couple of days letter saying, "you're approved for a 3rd extension BUT you have to write down the jobs you're searching for, yada, yada..." (by the way, this letter wasn't sent to me because I forgot to fill in section B as they haven't gotten my form yet.) Would have been nice to have gotten that letter beforehand. Anyway, they're pretty decent over there, if I call, should be okay, no? Anyone go through the same thing? Thanks!

Patti E. 7 years ago

George-

As far as I know, you must fill out the section "B" only if the box for it on the front is marked with an x, though form my understanding all Fed-Ed monies require it- was a stiplation in apprioving the extension at all. Your form will look exactly like your old claim forms, just that little x is different. If the box really was empty you are in the clear. If it was checked, they will kick it back to you. I woud call them- 800-300-5616, then immedaitely enter the numbers 12117 when you hear a voice. if you do that enough times, you will get through eventually to a human. You can ask if they will let you send in the work search separately, but my best guess would be no. You can ask for a duplicate set of claim forms mailed now to cut out some of the wait. I am not sure in this situation what they will say, but worth a try. If you get a rep that does not seem to know what they are doing, ask for a supervisor.

Best of luck!

I received one claim form for w/e 4/18, 4/25 on Monday May 11th, send it out same day, received the award letter on May 13th. Got the check on May 15th, but no claim form attached to the check and didn’t receive any other claim form for the subsequent weeks.

Robert 7 years ago

i got my second claim form today and my check was cut today. i got my award letter and i didnt fill out the last box like "respone" and i thought i was gonna get screwed but they cut my first check anyways. so just to let everyone know just to be safe you have to fill out all the boxes on part B. I might have got lucky and got one by.

aishashouse 7 years ago

Hi Everyone,

My check was cut on 5/15. I only completed 6 jobs on section B. When it asked for person contacted, I put Human Resources, when it asked for results, I put "waiting for response". I had contacted EDD on monday and asked the rep to send me all my claim forms to get me up to date. He sent me. 5/2-5/9 and 5/16-5/23. I cannot send 5/16-5/23 until next week but I feel comfortable knowing that I have in my possession.

I use to work at a call center and it is amazing how many people can work for the same company, be under the same roof, and possible sit by each other, and not have the same information.

God Bless you all!

Christine 7 years ago

Good morning everyone,

I am happy to report the automated system shows I was paid for all 4 weeks. I am hopeful there are no more delays in the future. Finally, after a week of calling people and being told one different story after another someone finally did their job. I hope to hear more of the same story from the rest of you. I have not received an award letter so hopefully that is coming sometime in the near future. For now I can breath just a little eaisier but believe me when I say this battle with EDD is far from over. All of this was unecessary and will happen again for others in the future. As happy as I am to be paid I remain hesitant to trust this agency or the word of anyone associated with it and will continue to pursue change.

George 7 years ago

They seem to be pretty easy to work with when you call. I'll call today, it seems they're now open Saturdays. I actually have about 15 searched jobs (and those are the ones I typed up) with more if they need them. I have emails, contact names, phone numbers for people I've spoken with, etc, etc. I'm sure I can fax it in today if someone would allow me to and they can then hold it till the claim arrives, attach it and we're good? Also, am I disqualified for ALL further claims at this point or does it just slow things down? Should I tell them that I didn't see that box OR that I got the letter telling me I need to fill in "section B" two days after sending in the claim form? Also, does anyone have their first claim form in front of them and if so, is that box checked on yours? Thanks...

doug 7 years ago

George

the box was marked. at the worst they will send you your claim form back for you to fill out. Just give them a call and also request the other weeks (5-2 5-9) while you have them on the line.

George 7 years ago

Thanks guys... I called and got the voicemail, with info on the checks. Interesting, I sent it in this week, Tuesday or Wednesday from another state, as I'm looking for work in places other than just Ca. I can't believe it but it arrived and according to the vm, the check was sent out today. It stated "May 16, 2009 the check was sent out". Interesting. Almost too good. Again, I can provide them with plenty of places I've applied to as being on ui compared to what I can make is a joke and I'd like to get back into the work zone. But they apparently gave me a break on providing those this time. Perhaps a 1 time deal. Won't happen again. Real quick, if the machine states it went out today, does that sound correct? I mean, it's Saturday. How would that go out today? Strange.

Im pretty sure it is computer generated so if they said they sent it then they did or will

George, I was told by the Manager in Oakland when the auto system states a check was issued to you it was actually processed in the batches the day prior and was most probably mailed on the same date it was processed. They system then updates those batches of checks into the following days 6 a.m. report. In other words the auto system is a day behind. Hope this helps.

Peter in Fremont & Bay Area: The same thing happened to me. I got my first FED-ED check today, but where the claim form usually is, it just says "NOT A CLAIM FORM" with no explanation about what to do next. I have plenty of money in my remaining balance, and I filled out my previous claim form exactly as instructed. I'm very puzzled by this, and wondering if I should call the EDD or if this is standard procedure and we'll be getting something else soon in the mail?

MC 7 years ago

SF CA The same thing happened to me. On friday I received a check for 4/18 and 4/25 but no continued claim form attached. I also received an award letter saying I was approved and on my check stub it stated a balance of 5,500.00 left. I don't understand why I did't get the continued claim form attached. Does anyone know about this? Is there an EDD office somewhere in the East Bay Area to go in person and ask questions? I'm not talking about the one stop career centers, but an actual EDD office. Thanks in advance for any help.

Hey everyone,

I have a question that's been puzzling me but just never knew who to ask. Thank you.

Peter in Fremont 7 years ago

To Tel,

Was the amount same as the original, first and second extensions or its just this third extension is different? In other words, was he getting higher weekly payments than you before?

Does he have higher total earnings in the quarter they calculated his weekly benefit from, than your quarter?

Tel 7 years ago

Hello Peter,

It's the same amount from the first and second extention's. Could it just be he might have worked alot of overtime??? Not too sure of his total earnings in the quarter though. Sorry, I know it would help if I knew more info.

Peter in Fremont 7 years ago

To SF CA and MC,

There were couple of people who posted same thing when they received their check on Thursday (May 14th), so to some extend I was expecting it would to happen to me as well. Someone did call in about it and was told, due some glitch in the system that subsequent claim form is going to be sending out Thursday this week separately from their check, but I have not seen anyone posted if they have indeed received it yet. I hate call EDD, just hope it will arrive on Monday.

I don’t know there is an EDD office around in Bay area anymore, that we can go it to apply or to ask questions in person.

Patti E. 7 years ago

I received my check today for weeks beginning 4/12 and 4/19! I have been following the board daily and noticed that those who got a check did not get claim forms for the next two weeks, so yesterday when I heard through the automated system that my check had been cut, I called to ask about the new claim forms. The rep ASSURED me they would be attached to my check, but condescended to request that duplicates be sent out anyway.

So, I asked for a supervisor. The supervisor assured me the forms would DEFINATELY be with my check. Yeah. Then she restated that the rep had ordered duplicate forms. I told her about numerous people on this board not receiveing forms with their checks. Her response was, "Did they say WHY they did not receive forms? Maybe they did not complete the forms correctly or were out of benefits. you don't know anything about their claims. Your forms WILL DEFINATELY be attached to your check." OK- first, how did they get a check at all if they filled out the forms incorrectly? Second, How are they our of benefits, when we were granted 20 weeks? Yeah.

I was REAL worried at this point and politely asked if they could fax me the forms as I had a dire situation with a pay or quit on my rental, and was told that it was completetely impossible, and faxing of forms never occurs. Yeah.

To give the workers at the EDD a fair shake, they are most likely repeating just whay they've been told to say. My vitriol today is directed squarely upon they higher ups who are not coordinating their info and making sure that supervisors and reps are well informed about these problems and given a clean plan to fix them.

******************If this happens to you call until you get a credible answer.

******************Do not expect claim forms to be attached to your check, whatever the EDD says. Call NOW and ask for duplicates, even if you don't have your check yet- it will probably save you a few days waiting time.

I hope someone out there benefits from this info- best of luck to all!

Patti E. 7 years ago

Tel,

They don't base your weekly benefit amount on your hourly pay rate- it is based on total earnings from your last several quarters (9 months, I think- not for sure there) of work. Say if you worked for 6 months and your husband's cousin worked for a year, or he/she had a lot of had overtime pay that would account for it.

SF CA 7 years ago

Thanks, Peter, for relaying that information. I hope to receive a proper claim form in the mail soon.

Glitch, eh? Maybe we should start a #EDDfail Twitter campaign. :p

Karen 7 years ago

Finally received my award letter on Friday, 5/15/09 mailed from San Jose. EDD lady said she sent claim form for w/e 5/2 and 5/9 on Thursday, 5/15. I received this claim form on Saturday, 5/16 and sent it in immediately, expect check to arrive by Wednesday, hopefully. Now I just hope that there is another claim form attached to it so that I can keep the flow going and don't have to call them yet again!

I'll keep you all posted.

George 7 years ago

According to the EDD, they made a mistake and didn't attach subsequent claim forms. Just wait, they'll arrive, according to them. 2 days following the check, you should get the new claim form. Hope that helps.

A way to contact a sup. at EDD is call at exactly 8 am to 800 300 5616 and if it welcomes you dial extension 140. The system will enter you into a que "the estimated wait time is...." or kick you out stating "due to the number of callers...."

Waiting for my check mailed out on friday by auto-system records.

My 2nd extension expired on 4/11. I have only recieved a claim form for the weeks 4/12-4/27.

Good Luck,

quick question how are we soupose to log into out cal jobs account if the sites down?

Istvan  7 years ago

Received award letter Saturday but no check. The odd thing is that when I called Thursday they said my check ( 4-11,4-25) was cut that day, when I called the automated system Friday afternoon it stated it was processed Friday.

They also told me my second claim for 5-2 & 5-9 will be attached to the check I am supposed to receive. I have been given basically 10 different answers to my same question about my 2 claim forms!!

What a joke of a system they have!! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE..let me run that department!! I would do a process analysis of their current work flow and reporting structure and immediately implement individual metrics to everyone to manage and make accountable these people who lie and seem to have NO direction!!

Can't wait for the great post EDD days!!!!

Received check for 4/18 and 4/25 and Fed ED award letter today, with no claim form attached, as others have reported. Perhaps it will be attached (for claim period ending 5/23) to the check I should receive by Saturday.

Yvonne 7 years ago

Neglected to add that I'm in Los Angeles and my check came from SoCal Authorization Center in San Bernardino, CA.

Ryan  7 years ago

I just spoke to EDD about there not being a claim form on the first FED-ED check. She said there was a mistake in Sacramento, and she said she'll personally make sure I'm mailed checks for 4-26 through 5-9, and 5-10 through 5-23. She asked that I not mail the second one until this Sunday of-course. My advice for any of you, is to call EDD yourself if you have any kind of concern, complaint, or question.

Mark 7 years ago

Like many of you, I received my first fed-ed check today, without a claim form. It came from San Bernardino, not the usual Sacramento. I live in Los Angeles.

Mark 7 years ago

...and let me add: Yeah!...Looks like the wheel is finally turning in the right direction.

Christine 7 years ago

I got my chekcs for weeks 4/18 4/25 5/2 5/9 and my award letter but no claim form for 5/16 and 5/23. They were all mailed on Friday the 15th. I called EDD-person did not have access to my claim, no idea why I did not get a claim form. Sitting on hold now waiting to speak to someone who can assure me a claim form will be mailed out this week. Otherwise,...here we go again playing musical EDD phone people. When there is a will there is a way and I am determined to get this caught up and up to date.

JohnB 7 years ago

A comment from someone on another site I'm on, about EDD and the missing claim forms:

just spoke to EDD and the very nice lady I spoke to informed me that she has gotten over 30 calls this morning about this exact claim form issue. She said that because these checks are from Sacramento and not San Bernardino, they simply forgot to add the claim forms. (the truth for once)! She said that she was very glad I called, because if I hadn't, they simply would have forgotten about me. She was so nice! She said she is sending me forms for all the way up until 5/23, and she asked that I please not mail that one until this Sunday. She apologized, and said that I should have the claim forms in a couple days. If any of you are in the same boat as I was, please call EDD personally and get this resolved! Thanks Monique for your helpful advice.

JohnB...what number did you call to actually talk to someone at EDD?

JohnB 7 years ago

I didn't make that call, someone on another site called EDD today and that's the information he was given.

If you do call EDD hit 1-2-1-1-7 to get past all the recorded information.

Mrs. Chang 7 years ago

Hi everyone,

I finally received my claim form today, 5/18, for the weeks ending 5/9 and 5/16. I received a check last week on 5/14 without a claim form, and I called on the same day and had to leave a message with a person who could only take messages. The following day, 5/15, I called twice in order to reach someone who had access to my computer file, and was assured a claim form would be mailed out that day. The postmark on the envelope I got today is 5/16, so that's close, I guess.

The return address of the form says San Bernardino, but the actual address on the part of the form that has to be mailed back, is West Sacramento. Whatever it is, I hope they can get my check mailed out on time. This is the check that's due this week. Last week's was late, what with all the delays we've been experiencing.

We'll all be so happy when we get our job situations straightened out. Thanks for all your help.

Mrs. Chang

I just got through to EDD, they took my information to correct the problem with the missin claim form. If you're missing your continued claim form...call them.

Christine 7 years ago

I called EDD to have a claim form mailed for weeks 5/16 and 5/23. I called 8 times only to get "don't have acess to your claim" people. On the final call I asked "do you have access to my claim" and the woman said, yes I do. I said "There is a God" and she laughed. She confirmed this mess with claim forms was due to the programming and states anyone who is missing a claim form needs to call and not hope it will show up.

She chatted with me for at least 5 minutes and told me EDD hired the busy bees to answer the phones so the worker bees can actually do work on claims. The busy bees are not trained to anything more than take a claim or pass on a message. They were hired to take the stress off the phone lines. She said EDD is an awful job, awful pressure and very disorganized but she is grateful for the job and will tolerate it until there is another option for her down the road. Very nice woman, very open and honest and yes, my new claim form goes out today and I actually believe her. However, this depends on the person who is supposed to mail it out actually doing it!

Hope we all get straightened out soon. Don't give up the fight and don't let anyone there tell you they can't help you, just keep dialing until the luck of the draw comes your way.

Best to all of you!

Mark 7 years ago

Just got through to EDD and talked to a very impatient, borderline hostile woman who only would tell me that she was told that "the computer" sent out the second claim forms today. I asked her to put her supervisor on the line and she said she could repeat the information but that was all. She also said that there were no guarantees that there wouldn't be other processing problems down the line. Unbelievable. Oh well, keeping fingers crossed that I receive the second claim form in a few days. Good luck all.

JohnB 7 years ago

Mark try calling them tomorrow, you should get someone else who's more helpful.

Live in Galt (20 miles south of Sacramento). Just received checks for the weeks of 4/11-4/25 along with an award letter, but without continued claim forms. They were mailed from San Bernadino.

I also had the same problem got my check paying for the weeks ending 4-25-09 but no claim form i called and the person who helped me said they mailed out the next claim form today and he will also send out the one that brings me current.........so im guessing you dont have to call they know there was a glitch in the system and are sending out forms but if you talk to someone u might get brought up to your current claim forms faster

I got my check for the weeks of 4/11-4-25 and a claim form for 4/16-4/23 but not for the two in the middle. lol Im on hold right now

sorry 5-16/5-23 duh

Inez 7 years ago

Received my check today for date ending 4/25. No claim form. I called and called for the past hour and kept getting cut off because of "the volume of callers already waiting." So I went ahead and emailed them through their website to inform them that I didnt receive a claim form. I'll keep trying to call but if I can't get through, at least they have my email already, which they've been pretty good at responding to every time I email them. So if you can't get through, it might be a good idea to request a form through email as well just in case.

Received a check for weeks 4/11-4/25 & an award letter. (Check was released per the system on friday) No claim forms attached, just like many of you. I will call in the morning to request them & send an email tonight thru the website.

I'll let you know the outcome. I'm in the Los Angeles Area.

My daughter and I both got our checks today. But no new claim forms.

After reading the posts on here my daughter and I can see we are not alone in not receiving the claim forms. Thanks everyone for posting.

I am really disappointed in the job situation. I just got a masters in January! Getting a deferrment on the student loans for now.

I live in Temecula and must be 20% unemployment here.

thanks

Hi All:

Lisa from the L.A. area here.  I got my renewal claim Monday 5-11-09 and on it, it said to fill out bubbles and Section B on the back, but to not send back until the 22nd of May. I just got my approval today 5-18-09 for the Fed-Ed extension with amount of how much I will get but, no check at all.  It says my benefits started from 4-12-09. My question is...How did you all receive checks in the mail already?  And, should I have sent back my renewal claim sooner?  Please answer soon...I can drop off at Post Office tonight if necessary to "hopefully" speed things up?

Thanks for any help!  Also, one quick question...how much do you think they (EDD) will be checking up on Section B?  What we fill out I mean.

Thanks again...Peace!

JohnB 7 years ago

Lisa: EDD has gotten behind, people are getting checks at different times. Most people I've talked to online are filling out all ten lines on the back of the form. Fill it out and you have nothing to worry about.

Christine08 7 years ago

Hello all,

My husband & I have been unemployed since last year! He was first & a few months later I was too! He is currently awaiting for his last extension. We called last week and was told that it will be mailed out in 5 -10 days!! That was before I read this page. We will be calling back tomorrow now that some of you here already got your claim form(s). I'm on getting on second extension, but since I was working as a contractor and the hours was not enough (I made very little and some weeks, none at all), they send me a letter to cont onto the second extension. But today, I received a letter from they for a phone interview! I called and was told that since I was working as a contractor, that considered self-employment! I could not believe this *&^%. and to add insult to injury, the phone interview is not until June 4! This means, no money for rent..ect.. at the end of the month.

This is a screwed up goverment.. people that we elected couldnt care *&^%(*$ because they're not unemployed. To my husband he is nearly 50 and been working all his life, this is a second time he's unemployed. The first time he was only unemployed for two months, that was 20 years ago!

Thanks for hearing my rant.. I am frustrated and we have small children. We're surviving on our last 401k, which is very little now..

Got claim forms for weeks of 4/18-4/25 on may 11. filled out and mailed in and got my check for those weeks but with NO continued claim form for the next 2 weeks? Called EDD yesterday...5/18 and spoke with ms. Personality??? She could NOT access records...why does she answer the phone?? She said EDD was aware of the problem and claim forms "SHOULD" be sent this week and we "SHOULD" have them by next week...operative word being 'SHOULD"??? She said you don't have to call as they are aware of the problem and new ones will be sent. This will delay your next check by a week or two if all goes well. i asked her if they were competing with "Jenny Craig" and Weight Watchers" for the best diet program? She didn't get it..duh! No money no food!! Now why wouldn't they notice while printing these checks that the claim forms were not correct???? They assure me that the new forms will be sent but it seems they are telling different people different things??

Oc Girl 7 years ago

i too received my check for 2 weeks but no claim form. I also received a letter stating I have been schedueld for a phone interview. Don't know what that is all about. Can anyone enlighten me?

Gail 7 years ago

Lisa,

I took my claim forms to the post office early Thursday morning. Went inside at 6:30am put it in the mail slot, and got 4 weeks of checks Monday afternoon. I live in Northern California. Also I filled out the back with 3 contacts per week according to the EDD instructions. Wishing for a check and claim form for you soon: )

Kat in Galt 7 years ago

I called EDD this morning and a very nice woman named Rhonda said my claim forms will be mailed today. She also offered to mail the forms for weeks ending 5/16 and 5/23. I would suggest if you have not received any overdue claim that you call. It seems like someone said previously, they are not necessarily issuing them until you call them on it.

Ryan 7 years ago

Lisa from the L.A. area here. I got my renewal claim Monday 5-11-09 and on it, it said to fill out bubbles and Section B on the back, but to not send back until the 22nd of May. YOU READ THE CLAIM FORM WRONG!! It says to mail it in immediately, but NO LATER than May 22nd. Read it again. As far as the job searches go, obviously they won't read every single one, but just make sure you're honest and you'll be fine. In my case, I alsonever received a continued claim form with my check, so I called EDD, and this very nice lady said that she will send me to claim forms yesterday for 4-26 through 5-8 and 5-9 through 5-23. She asked me to wait to mail the second one until this Sunday. If you have any doubts or questions, just call them

Got my second round of claim forms Monday Morning, so they did send them as promised last week. We'll see how long it takes to get the second check...

lisa6785 7 years ago

Hey Everyone...Lisa from L.A. here!

Thanks for all the info and for answering me back. I re-read that info last night and YEP...it does say to send it back immediately...doh!!! Well, I took it to the post office late last night. Man, I am so behind you all. Great job on getting your checks already!

Thanks also for the info on the "Section B" part. I have no problem even filling out all 10 spots. I was just wondering if you needed to be real precise with it. Meaning, sometimes on Monster or Career Builder they don't give you the name of the company or address.

Also, i was wondering with the section that says "results" a lot of times you dont really know what the results are when you send your claim form back. Is it ok to just say something like "Wating for a call back" or "Sent email, no answer yet". Just curious on that and if EDD will stop payment because of not filling in "Section B" correctly.

Thanks again...Peace!

As I stated last week, I didn’t get the claim form along with my check.

I just got off the phone with EDD, of course the person I get can only take massages, she told me EDD is aware of this problem, the new claim form wont be send out till NEXT week, when I try to ask couple of questions? She just brush me off and all of sudden her tone changed. I hope you all have better experiences with EDD and their “representatives” than I.

They said that like it isn’t big deal, but we all know how much of distress one week is going to put on us, one week could be the difference of having an roof over our heads or being homeless. At this point, I am so very thankful that I don’t have anyone counting on me.

vincent 7 years ago

i've heard you only have to fill out 6 slots on the back for the job search but i messed up and only did five on the first cliam form. got my check yesterday...

i talked to a lady from edd and she told me 3 per week so 6 total per claim form but like i said. i only did five and got a check so ???

Mark 7 years ago

Didn't receive the second claim form today. Live in Los Angeles. I called yesterday and got a borderline hostile EDD agent who refused to personally send me the claim, said "the computer" was taking care of it. But I see that other EDD personnel are willing to do that, to take the step of sending out the form on their own. Still amazes me that it seems to come down to who you get on the other end of the line. EDD Roulette. Reform is needed.

Matt 7 years ago

Hello all i just spoke to an actual edd rep named Bob he was very helpful and wanted me to pass the following info to you all. If you have received the first fed ed check starting 4/26 as you all know threre were no claim forms attached due to a computer error. Edd is aware of this and they have issued new claim forms as of yesterday 5/18 they should be in the mail by tonight. This is for the April 11 people only. He stated that there is no need to call edd if you are in this category but you may if you can get through. Hope this helps.

Patti E. 7 years ago

THIS IS A REPOST FROM A COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO-Ii NOTICED SOMEONE ASKING ABOUT ADS THAT DONT LIST COMPANY NAMES IN REGARDS TO THE WORK SEARCH SECTION OF CLAIM FORMS. IF YOU DON'T KNOW HOW TO DO THAT, READ ON :)

If you have any other questions about this, try your local EDD in person, if you are lucky enough to have a manned location.

Patti E. 7 years ago

******Work Search- Section B*****

My local ED rep confirmed that you need 3 for each week- that is six on a double week form. They are probably very lax about checking the specifics on what we are writing on there now while it is so crazy getting everyone caught up - I am sure lots of people have not done it correctly and have still gotten checks.

However- be safe- fill out 3 per week, every week. You don't want to find out the hard way that they are checking up on it when you don't get your check. When things get back to normal- they will be checking.

Michelle S 7 years ago

Like many of you I got the check without a claim form. And like many of you I was told by EDD folks that another form will be sent in the mail...which is irritating after the whole snafu from the beginning.

I have been reading a lot about EDD and the history on and on. And I know that everyone is concerned right now about filling out the job search. In the history section of the EDD website they explain that computers read our claim forms, not people. This leads me to believe that 1) we better be very clear and precise and 2) as long as every section is filled with something nearly logical and legible, the computer will be happy. Meaning....don't have blank sections on the job history. Put something down in each space, up to 6 attempts for a two week form, and I'm guessing your form won't get pulled or flagged. Computers look for irregularities.

good luck to all! This is a scary time, but we'll get thru it!

CA When??? 7 years ago

Tuesday afternoon mail/San Diego (05/19), still no check. Per all of the posts here seems like most of you are getting your checks. Anyone else not get a check?

On hold with edd - rep confirmed cut on the 15th transferring me to adjustments to see where the check is. - was transferred to an agent that identified herself as a "seasonal clerk" - no access to information "EDD has 10 business days...."

Please let me know if anyone else reading/posting here has had a check cut for weeks 1 & 2 (04/18 & 04/25) and did not receive it yet. Thanks for any insight.

Hello all, I have a quick question. I received my last check on May, 2 and it said that I may be elligible for the fed-ed because I exausted my second extention. Any idea on when I should be getting notified whether or not I qualify for it? Every time I call EDD they say they can't take my call and hang up. I try for HOURS and having 4 kids it's kinda hard to just sit on the phone all day... You all are awesome getting all this info! Thank you much!

Doug 7 years ago

yvelgirl22

you should hear soon but keep calling and put in the numbers 1-2-3 and then 0 to get past the automated stuff. good luck

op2mztk 7 years ago

Bill, I had to move to Florida and I am on California unemployment. It is not where you live, but where you worked during the qualifying period that determines whether you qualify for unemployment. Just put your change of address on the back of your claim form and the checks will keep coming to you. And, of course, EDD will expect you to continue your job search where you live....and beyond. Good luck.

Anybody receive the missing claim form today?

Violet's View profile image

Violet's View 7 years ago from San Diego, CA

To CA when? I also live in San Diego. I got my claim form last Monday (5/11) and mailed it in on Weds. (5/13) and received my check Tuesday (5/19). On the back I filled out 6 jobs total, all of them online ads. I put 'on line ap.' in the column for name and 'no response' in the last column, although I had gotten some 'acknowledgement of reciept of application' e-mails. There really isn't much room to write anything so I assume they do not want details. I keep a record of what I have sent them, (if you have a copier just make a copy of the back of the claim) and I save my e-mails from the job websites that acknowledge my ap was received in case I ever have to prove it.

I did NOT receive my new claim form with my check, but it did show the remaining balance in my EDD account, so I am not worried, especially since others on this blog have not received their claim form either. How strange that EDD has nothing on their site about the claim forms not being attached to the check. One little blurb would save them thousands of calls, one from each person that hasn't recieved it. They really make extra trouble for themselves. It is hard to understand their thinking....or lack of it.

Good luck to all in your job searches and bill paying,

Violet

Just to let everyone know.....I did not receive my claim forms today as promised by EDD. Those guys up in Sacramento lie through their teeth. I was ASSURED on Monday morning at 8:15am that my claim forms for weeks 4/26-5/9 and 5/10-5/23 would both be mailed to me on Monday, and that I'd receive them today. So much for that...I am so sick of all this crap we have to put up with. If anyone else from CA gets their back claim forms today, please post!!

Ryan 7 years ago

I am even more fuming now. I just got off the line with EDD, and they said that there was an internal memo sent yesterday, saying that the programmers aew aware of the problem, they're fixing it, and we will NOT be receiving claim forms until this weekend. This puts us another week behind, and again..... NO CHECK. I am so damn frustrated it makes me sick, and we are at their mercy.

Here's an update from San Francisco. We both sent in our first Fed-Ed Extension claim form for 5/4-5/8 and 5/11-5/15 on Saturday 5/16--our last 2nd extension payment was on 5/6, EDD automatically sent us Fed-Ed forms the following week. We received our Award letters on Monday, 5/18. In addition, I received a letter informing me of a telephone interview on 6/6. I'm not too worried as I did some contract work last summer after my first UI filing had run out in the spring of 08. I was eligible to re-file in the fall for the first series of extensions. I had a phone interview with EDD to make sure that I was not eligible to file for a new UI claim (I wasn't because the work I performed was on a contract/consultant basis and no UI was taken out of my check).

Here's a couple of tings running around the brainpain on Wednesday, 5/20. Normally, we would of received our checks today, five days after mailing in the claim form. They didn't arrive and it is impossible to reach EDD on the phone. With all the confusion/complications at EDD with the aformentioned April back claims and the extra information regarding the reporting of weekly job searches, how long will it take for the checks to arrive? Hmm. In addition, I wonder if my checks will be held up until the 6/6 phone interview. Will EDD honor myclaim forms mailed in the interim? Now that we are all on double secret probation with this Fed-Ed extension and have to report weekly job searches, if I work a couple of days as a temp, do I lose UI altogether, or does the total on the Award letter get pushed forward until the amount runs out like in regular UI. Know what I mean

Finally, as someone who perfers working to living on the dole, am I the only one who feels like I've become a financial junkie, sucking at my gums all day, waiting for my check to arrive? I really wish the economy gets restarted and I can get back to working for a living.

no claim form for 4/26 on.....

should be here or I will use my new standard contact method

18003005616 ext 140 is the number i found at one stop in campbell /norcal, works ok , but you have to dial 3 to 8 times to get a rep with access to make a request. and the whole dialing in takes 20 to 50 minutes

if you get someone named mark you are in!, possibly?

This is insane I have been without a job since May/2006 and still am not able to find a job. I live in a small town with no jobs available to me or my family members. I don't understand how people are suppose to live on unemployment. If it was not for my husband I would be on the street with my 8 kids. I have not received a check in a little over a month and I can't believe the state we live in. I bet if Arnold needed a flight to Washington to suck Obamas dick there would be no delays......

I don't understand how people are suppose to live on unemployment. If it was not for my husband I would be on the street with my 8 kids. I have not received a check in a little over a month and I can't believe the state we live in. I bet if Arnold needed a flight to Washington to suck Obamas dick there would be no delays......

There are a lot of blogs going the way of RGs sentiments. A lot of people are scared and angry. What's been great about this one is that this is the first time that someone has just lost their mind and vented like this. Mostly what happens in this space is a lot of giving and help.

I understand the fear and anger that has been expressed here. I feel it too. But I admire those who have actually used this space to do something besides ranting. I have found great ways to get through to the actual EDD people as opposed to the recordings. I have found information that has lead to my article that I'm working on for the Times. (LA).

Seems to me, we are back where we started...waiting for info regarding money that was promised to us by CA and it seems to be sitting in an account accruing interest. And that makes me angry. As it might all of us.

Let intelligence prevail. We are not rats attacking each other. We are smart people trying to make our way. Okay? As easy as it is to just rant, it doesn't actually do any good. But I get it. And I feel it. So let's move on.

Thank you Michelle... I, too, have followed this blog from the beginning and have gathered much information and encouragement here. I will no longer post nor participate further if this ranting continues.

New Question for Posters regarding Bank placing Hold on UI Check -

Since when can a Bank (Wells) place a three day hold on a CA UI check. Now they are going to get multiple 35 fees from me through this check by charging me for the utilities and other bills that I had to pay with this "finally here" first check!

Per the Bank - they have a right to place holds on "any" check. Anyone???
