Can I Learn how to have a Lucid Dream
Definition of Lucid Dreaming
Definition of Lucid Dreaming according to Urban Dictionary:
A lucid dream is an extremely vivid dream where you are aware that you are dreaming. You can train yourself to do reality checks throughout the day so it gets cemented into your subconscious; this way you will do reality checks in your dream to see if you are actually dreaming. this is a way to become lucid. common reality checks include holding your nose shut and looking at a digital clock; this is because in your dreams you can still breath if you hold your nose shut, and numbers are disordered commonly. once you are lucid you have the power to do whatever you want. Fly, make things appear, make things disappear, or change locations...the list is endless.
What is Lucid Dreaming
The first time I heard the term 'lucid dreaming', I didn't have a clue what it meant. Once I read about it, I realized I had experienced this type of dreaming many times in my life. Not everyone has had a lucid dream, but anyone has the potential. There are actually simple steps one can take to have this type of dream which I will discuss later in this article.
'Lucid dreaming' simply put, means that the dreamer has become aware that he/she is dreaming or in the dream state. The dreamer has become conscious of the fact that they are not awake and are experiencing a dream. The range of awareness can go from very faint or vague to incredibly vivid.
Lucid Dreaming Techniques
- Keep a dream journal so you can see patterns in your dreams. Once you know the patterns, it can help you figure out if you're in a dream. This reality check can let you know you're dreaming, so you can start creating your lucid dream.
- Wake up after 4 to 6 hours of sleep. I set my alarm for five hours. The reason for this: you're more likely to have a lucid dream because the brain is active but your body needs more sleep.
- Mnemonic induced lucid dreaming-this is where you repeat a phrase during the day that you want to use in your dream. When your asleep and hear this phrase, it can tip you off that you're dreaming and not awake. Once you realize you're dreaming, you can now enjoy and create your lucid dream.
My Favorite Lucid Dream
My favorite lucid dream was one I planned and thought out well ahead of time. I had previously experienced several lucid dreams and was becoming more skilled at manipulating and controlling them. I decided that it would be a blast if my next lucid dream was a flying dream. The dream was amazing and incredibly vivid. When I realized I was dreaming, I got dressed in warm clothes and went outside to begin my exciting trip. I jumped in the air and began flying. I made myself go higher and higher and headed west towards my sister's home. I thought it would be cool to fly over the highway to her house and then hang out there while they were asleep. The dream was so clear and real that I could actually smell the crisp autumn air as I flew through the air. It was a partly cloudy evening and particularly beautiful. I felt so happy and free as I made my way through the night sky. The more confident I became that I was calling the shots in my lucid dream, the more fun I had. I zig zagged up and down, sideways and any other way I deemed exciting. I was laughing and enjoying the trip and eventually arrived at my sister's house where she lived with her husband and two kids at the time. I flew all around the house and made my last stop at the refrigerator. I had a soda and snack and then left the way I came. I headed back outside and flew back home to my warm, cozy apartment.
