Economic Shift.... Or Changing Times

The surprising truth about what motivates us

Our Changing World

There is so much talk these days about the economy. So many hope to see signs of improvement. Signs of betters days ahead. They ask for Government to make changes, they ask for Big Business to make changes and they ask for Unions to make changes.

An economic shift is no doubt needed, but the question really is “Who and Where should these changes come from?”

Times have changed. Science and technology have brought about a most interesting change taking mankind far beyond the industrial revolution. This has brought about a huge change to the global consciousness of mankind. Let me explain.

In terms of how old the earth is, it is not that long ago mankind believed the earth to be flat. It was not only thought but actually (incorrectly) known to man at that time, that if you walked far enough you would fall off the edge of the earth. Of course man was wrong about that, and we know the earth is not flat.

At the time when the earth was believed to be flat, those who first understood it was round were way ahead of their time. The global consciousness had to be changed. It was a huge shift in consciousness to get man to the point where teaching another, the earth is round, is easy. Today children grasp the concept in a heart beat..... back then one could spend days getting another to even imagine the earth might be round.

Consciousness on a global scale DOES change, not just knowledge.

We are at a point in time that we all KNOW there is a huge abundance in the universe. Technology, science and the arts all in one way or another show us that abundance is everywhere. The perception that there is abundance, is now part of the global consciousness, yet today less than 20% of the worlds population controls 80% of the wealth.

Therein lies the shift that is needed. It is not an economic shift that is needed but rather a global consciousness shift, whereby mankind “stops the struggle for survival and begins to love life, love living and become the most we can be.” Notice I said become the most we can be – I did not say earn the most or have the most.

My friends, it is not an economic shift we need. It is a perception shift we need. It is not that hard to see how a perception shift can happen. Understand The Power Of Duplication and you will see for yourself just how one person CAN make a difference. Read that link.... it is very easy and a single person can make the change begin.

Someone asked - "What would you do if you were invisible for one day?"

I replied " In truth -- to many of us are already invisible..... we cower from our own greatness and hide from what we could become if we would only step out of our quiet shell and meet ourselves, our true potential, and make that which is found within, fully known!"

In my hub pages SAVING THE MIDDLE CLASS and GOVERNMENT WASTE vs CORPORATE GREED the attitude of (or the seeds of thought) to what this hub is all about are hidden within those two previous hubs. Check them out again, with this change of perception. Those hubs will say more to you with a perception shift than they appeared to say on first read.

Also check a more recent hub, Middle Class To Zero. It takes the process of perception change to a totally easy to understand level.

To BE all we can be - we must dream of BEING more!

Let us make the global consciousness shift and Give Up the Struggle to Survive and learn to LOVE LIVING and LOVE LIFE and all LIFE IS.

good hub. Good concepts. Mankind has this innate fear of change. Fear of the unknown. We want our lives to be tidy and neat. But this is not the way to a healthy progression into the future.

Unfortunately, those (20%)(this figure is way too high - this world is being controlled by approximately 6%):

The wealthiest, and most influential, based solely on their wealth. Certainly not on their intelligence, caring, or love of mankind.

The first step that needs to be done is to go back to the concept that greed is NOT good. As long as there is unregulated business practices things will never change. Back before deregulation by the republican party things were competitive and the hoarding was minimal.

The second step is to get away from those old stagnant and debilitating self-defeating religious ideas. Organized religion must die, before we can move to a truly spiritual existence. For those who believe in Jesus as some kind of forerunner to change, he was a Gnostic. What we all should be today. Religion has become corrupted and is nothing more than a business based on hatred and greed.

Unfortunately, greed and religion, are the controlling factors today, and they will not be given up easily by the controllers.

I see the unrest in the middle east as just the beginning of this change in general perception. I call it the "Age of Enlightenment". When all people have had enough they (we) will all stand together and topple the status quo. Much like the toppling of those dictators in the middle east.

Thanks for this interesting hub. The 6% at the top will never give up their power and money without a fight. And these days they dont have to fight because they controle the popular media, which controls the poular mind. Perhaps the internet will change this majority mindset in North America the way it is causing change in the Middle East.

Hey, Neil, I completely agree with you. Last Friday, in my fear and desperation for a job and the security it allows, I began a job I figured I wouldn't like. It is with a good organization, Muscular Dystropy Association, but the only thing I do is make cold calls to business people to solict their participation in a "Jail Lockup" gig, designed for donations. The jailbirds call their friends, co-workers and family for money to bail them out. It is so depressing to sit in a room with callers who "ding" their bell each time they haul someone in. I don't detest the idea of donations for worthy causes, but I don't want to be the caller. The salary is less than I was making, but decent. But, I don't think it's for me. I didn't get one hang up, in fact, many of those I called, commented on how I was the most pleasant call they'd had that day. I got a couple of donations, but no jailbirds. At the end of the day, I wanted to cry. It is mind-numbing work, where we are allowed 2 breaks a day. And, everyone there is afraid to leave one-minute before their break starts. I just don't think I can go back. I'm not a quitter, but I don't see the point of spending 6 hours a day doing something I hate in a sweatshop mentality. I think I'm a misfit, because the rest of the group feels so lucky to be there. In keeping with your theme, I know I am not the best I can be at this job. I won't have the time to write or even think about much more than not liking my job. If I stayed at the MDA in that job, I would be putting in time for a paycheck. Not for wealth, but only basics. I think I'd rather eat less. Thank you for this timely, important piece about where we all need to be...being our best and making the world better for it.

We can be more than we are, we just have to want to be more than we are. The school I went to as a kid was a tad unusual, as we got graded on our accomplishments, if they fell below a certain level, we were in trouble. Our attitude to "self worth" was copiously taught to us, and we were encouraged to think for ourselves.

One class I had was about Innovation and Personal Development. Basically we were given an imaginary household and business to run, and we had to earn enough to survive and flourish. (All currency was fictitious, though sometimes not!) and again we got graded. The less we earned, the lower our grade. So we all picked jobs and careers to get ahead. So years before I left school, I had chosen my career and business (Finance) as I became good at it, and that shaped my life as much as any other regular subject that I could have studied. It accelerated my understanding of money drastically. No one failed in that subject, as we were taught all about life planning and development. (Sorry for boring you with this.)

Most schools I understand don't teach quite like that, although there are many excellent education systems that produce very smart and bright people.

The shift from personal growth to growth as a collective or society can be sped up perhaps if others studied ideas or systems like that. Or maybe even improve on those ideas again. Either way, change is something we can control, provided we are aware of it. I was surprised that many of my friends who went to other schools were not aware of the "control" opportunities open to them. They would have to discover some of them by accident or not at all.

Not all things are equal or the same everywhere, I know that. But one thing I learned from all that - is ya gotta have a plan! LOL! Otherwise, everything is harder!

Your hubs are cool as they make people think, Neil! Some great points made in this hub. Cheers!

I'm late to the conversation-as per usual:)

I agree with you, and I think that the perception change needed is for people to look at what they themselves do.

The "micro" changes the "macro".

Spoiled, over-indulged children grow up to be spoiled over-indulged "the government". If you have never, ever learned discipline and self restraint as your brain was forming-how do you suddenly go into office and know how to fix the problems of millions of people you don't even know?

I have ascended from these clouds above simply to comment here, lol. Nah just playing as you've done on my fan message, yes indeed my head is stuck in these clouds because its our present & future on the web here, which fits right into this hub directly.

Many people have no clue what Cloud Computing is, but what you are speaking of above about todays technology making things shift a great deal, is what the cloud has become for us all. I won't lecture folks on your comment wall here, on it, they can google it for that.

What I will say is that I think your perception of things on life has definitively ascended, high above that of the average thinker, to even be able to address such an issue as the economic shift as you have done here, and or formulate any argument as to what it should be focused upon, and as it should actaully appear to be to us all.

I do know your powers as an author on the web is pretty powerful judging by this hubs intensity, and I'm going to be reading from your hubs much more often. I feel as if I was somehow summoned here by your very kind message or should I call it the bat signal :)

Voted up & way above the clouds my new friend, your wisdom is notable.

I prefer to see everything as a form of an illusion, and handle it all as such from time to time, I only believe what comes my way to be the case for the most part, so my take on the Shifting of the economy is the fact that change is the only thing that's permanent, everything else is like dust drifting in the winds of time.

Neil Sperling profile image

Neil Sperling 4 years ago from Port Dover Ontario Canada Author

Cloud - Cool post - I am delighted you dropped by. Your closing comment "the fact that change is the only thing that's permanent" nails it. You have a hammer in the clouds?
