Failure, the Heart of Success

By Tony DeLorger © 2011

Being alive is having the ability to get up after you fall.

Falling is an indication of life; not getting up is an indication of death.

Life is about failure and how we deal with it,

not about success.

Success is a smooth ride complicated by our ineptitudes

and the pursuit of maintaining that success.

Failure is to be human, and the opportunity to grasp that humanity,

in a meaningful and productive way.

Through failure we learn of our faults, assumptions and mistakes,

and gain a blueprint of a more positive path.

Without failure how would we recognise the glory of success,

the meaning of it to us, and what that success will change.

Failure is the door of success opening,

the locks abandoned and possibility addressed.

With our plans so confused and misunderstood,

it is failure that defines our wants.

Success is the positive outcome of our plans,

but realising it must incorporate the struggle from failures,

the aspirations driven by the challenges of life,

and the opportunity for us to stand firm for what we want.

I like your view of failure, the heart of success. I wrote a hub about conquering my fears of failure. Your beautiful poem reminds me what it takes to be successful when one learns how to deal with failure. Thanks for sharing it!
