JBK - Jackie Kennedy's Custom Belt with Her Initials | Camrose Kross

The world remains even today fascinated by the style and grace of fashion icon Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy. As a glimpse into the private and creative side of JBK, here is a rare photograph of Jackie at age 23 sporting a custom belt that she herself designed!

Imagine her initiative and creativity to create her own logo and brand even in the early 1960s!

No one person made a greater impression upon fashion in American history. From her hair to her clothing to her jewelry - the lasting impression is memorable even today.

This iconic fashion statements made by Jackie in the early sixties when she was married to John F. Kennedy remain pertinent even today. A quick review of YouTube proves my point with not one but two videos dedicated to Jackie's style.

Amazingly for all the publicity that has surrounded Jackie over the last 50 years, the creativity of Jackie was not touted. Often reported as a serious student who shunned the public light, the many accomplishments outside of Jackie's marriages are not highlight other than her style for clothing.

Jackie was an accomplished horse back rider, writer and won several awards including an internship for Vogue Magazine which she ended up turning down. Her poetry has been published and later in life she continued in the field of journalism as editor with Doubleday Publishing.

Her great fashion style was not hiring the best designer (but that always helps!) but her attention to detail with her jewelry and her accessories.

Jackie Created Her Own Style

Even from a very young age, Jackie created her own style and was very specific about her jewelry. She was very intelligent and creative. On more than one occasion, she would have a piece of jewelry created. What is amazing is her young start. Her self-confidence and initiative are shown in her ability to direct the creation of a distinctive piece of jewelry or clothing.

Jackie's eye for style was apparent even at the young age of 23 years old. Philip Katz of Camrose and Kross manufacturer of Jackie's Jewelry reported that "Jackie had a belt made (when she was only 23 years old, in a jewelry style using her initials (long before it became popular)."

Now her replica jewelry manufactured by Camrose and Kross and recreated to the tiniest of details including weight proudly bears the very same initials of JBK.

It is interesting to note that her first professional job offer was an internship from Vogue, an internship for writing for Vogue for one year, 6 months in New York and 6 months in Paris. Jackie turned down that offer in order to respect her family's wishes and ended up taking a job as a photographer.

Jackie's creative spirit was evident not only in her career choices but also in her fashion. And no one did the details better than Jackie Kennedy.

Dear Martha,

Yes, the belt buckle was cut by a jeweler.

The Jackie Kennedy jewelry, for the most part - all the replica jewelry is from Camrose and Kross; a few pieces were created by the Franklin Mint but only a handful.

It is amazing that even from a young age, Jackie was creative and strong willed enough to create what she wanted. The belt buckle, I believe says more about her personality than anything else in the entire collection. It was the first piece to my knowledge that she designed. She went on to have others designed for her from her sketches and on more than one occasion she would literally call the jeweler back and request different colors.

An interesting hub would be the many pieces that she did in multiple colors. She liked what she liked and wasn't afraid of having created identical pieces in colors that worked with her wardrobe.

Thank you for stopping by - I hope I answered all your questions. If not, please drop me a line. I love writing about Jackie Kennedy jewelry.
