J.K Rowling-On a Failure and Success story
JK Rowling-On Failure and Success
At her Harvard University commencement speech, "Harry Potter" author JK Rowling offers some powerful, heartening advice to dreamers and overachievers, including one hard-won lesson that she deems "worth more than any qualification I ever earned." Her video is hosted by the TED website-from, which this quotation was taken.
As known to many JK Rowling is ,the author of the books that led to the blockbuster movie series and books, Harry Potter, what may not be too apparent to many is the path she had to endure to achieve her goals. In her talk at The Harvard graduation day, she sheds a lot of light on her background. A truly moving story that will shift perspectives on success and failure. It is also a rare opportunity to "hear it from the horses mouth" without too much media re-interpretation.
Success and failure
It is a little hard now to imagine this hugely successful woman in a position of failure. Watching her talk really brings forth the assumptions we make when someone becomes mythically successful. Her interpretation of the theme is also enriching.
Mostly left to the Arts, imagination as portrayed by JK Rowling becomes something more than the sum of its parts. She manages to articulate her perspective on it in such a unique (and humorous) manner. Leaving the viewer inspired and informed.
Friends and relationships
Often we under-estimate the value of these, the Harry Potter author illustrates what role these relationships played in her life. JK Rowling's speech really drives the point of the importance of community. I personally found her story and insights truly touching and enriching.
The story of human goodness at Amnesty International
A very interesting and moving story she tells while working with the humanitarian organization Amnesty international is a powerful portal into the debate about our connectedness. How our actions shape the world around us. Brilliantly and humbly told-the story leaves one with much to ponder over.
Impressions of the Author
I found JK Rowling's to be witty, humorous and extremely wise. She is generous with her knowledge and does impart a sense of caring about what she is saying and to whom she is saying it. From this talk/video, I walk away with a newfound respect for JK Rowling. She deserves every bit of success she has earned. I highly recommend the watching of this wonderful speech, you will find it worthwhile for a long time.
