Just Another Minnesota Winter

Just another Minnesota snow storm I guess you could say. Why Do I live here? I find myself each year asking that question more vehemently. I hope you enjoyed the picture of our metro-dome collapsing from all the snow here in Mpls MN. Thank goodness they cancelled the Vikings game, even before the storm because they knew what we were going to get. The Minnesota Vikings will now be playing at Detroit instead of our metro-dome. How Minnesota is that? It is now around 30 below windchill here in Minnesota. Wow, that is just sheer craziness.

I will tell you that it was quite fun watching and listening as folks at the local grocers and liquor stores babbled of the storm of the century that was foretold. It was as if they had never seen or heard of a snow storm. I mean, we live in Minnesota and we have to expect snow and lots of it. I did have many a chuckle yesterday because people were so funny yapping about the big storm that was coming.

Yesterday we had over 17 inches of snow in our metro area. It started at Midnight and went all through the next day. My plow guy never showed up in the morning and it kept snowing. My driveway looked like a white prairie. Thank goodness I was up late on my computer as I saw a plow guy down the street. You must envision this funny scene as I threw on my leather coat, boots and mittens and muddled through the foot of snow packed road at one in the morning. I ran to the plow guy and waved my hands as he plowed one of my neighbors driveways. He finally shut off his big plow and screamed out, what? I said, " Hey, I live right down the street here, please plow my driveway. He said no problem, I do charge fifty dollars though. I told him it would be quite worth the money. Back on the snowy drifted foot high snow back to my house I went. I felt so happy knowing that my home would be able to be seen again.

I have pictures here for your sheer enjoyment. No worries, you can laugh as you review the winter wonderland.

We got a fair bit of snow a week ago but not what you just got now - but we did hit minus 40 windchill yesterday if that counts. At that temp F or C is the same LOL. I enjoyed your photos and it DOES look festive :)

Snow storms are not always fun for everyone, but it sure makes things look clean for a few hours doesn't it?

Hope your metro-dome roof is replaced with something a little more sturdy!

Great shots by the way!

It is beautiful Duchess, yes I can't believe how horribly made the metrodome is. Thanks for stopping by.

I saw the Metrodome footage on the news this morning. Wow, it is a good thing no one was inside at the time of the collapse! Where are the Vikings going to play until they get it repaired? Love the photos -- glad it is warm where I am! Stay bundled up and happy holidays!

I enjoyed the photos : ).

I agree that sometimes snow gets way over dramatized by those of us who live here. Although the dome collapse was of significance in this one.

My mom gets nervous if there is an inch on the way. I keep wondering how she has made it all these years living here.

I was really frustrated when trying to watch The Chronicles of Narnia on our local station and they kept breaking in with a weather alert to spend 15 minutes each time informing us that it was snowing, blowing, and exceptionally cold. I don't think there was anyone that wasn't aware of that.

fun hub : )

I did smile a little when I read this! But I know how happy one can be from the sight of a plow guy! They are worth the effort of muddling in the snow! I cant help thinking of the job the plow guys have; all around the world people come running from snowbound houses in whatever they are wearing, just to get their driveway plowed. I do the same here in Sweden! Lovely and also a funny hub:) Great photos!

I am glad you are warm where you are. Thanks so much for coming by. I guess we play at detroit tonight. Many mad fans here in MN that have season tickets. The loss of revenue for the state is a sad affair as well.

We had four inches last winter and that was incredible to us...17" would be the end of the world down here in Texas! LOL! It was beautiful though at least for a little while. I remember living up in the northwest near Seattle back in the early 80's. The weather is so gentle up there that it rarely thunders but when it does, they talk about it at the grocery stores for days! LOL! Thanks for sharing! WB

Your house looks absolutely beautiful, a complete Winter Wonderland. However, I got a huge gust of chill when I saw just how much snow you were under. Oh your feet, they must have felt so good when you went back into your home. Thank you for sharing with us your adventure at 1AM. Blessings to you and yours

I can’t even imagine living in Minnesota. I will surely freeze within an hour after getting off a plane in your region. We just don’t know that kind of cold. I wish you a merry (and not so cold) Christmas and a prosperous 2011.

What a trooper you are! I am so impressed with your trot out to ask the plow guy for help. I am a California gal, so all that snow just makes my eyes glaze over and contemplate just how happy I am to live here. Be safe and stay warm HT! Blessings this winter season my friend!

Thanks for the hub. I can now look at snow with a proper perspective. The whole of London virtually ground to a halt and there was nothing like the amount of snow that had there. I live in the part of London which was "worst hit". I think we had what you would call a slight flurry.

I’m glad no one was hurt in the Metrodome collapse. We’ve just had a snow day where I live, but we got much less snow than you described in your hub! I think snow makes things look lovely, but if I have to drive on snow covered roads I’m not so happy.

Your so right about driving in snow. It is lovely here right now but the roads are so dangerous. A car swerved in my lane yesterday on my birthday. I came out unscathed, but whewwwwwwwwwww

WOW. That was such a catastrophe! Glad it didn't have worse repercussions!

I'm always glad I don't live in "the frozen north" as my little mother called it, having grown up there and been there till coming to Texas when she was in her late 20s.

But then when it is blisteringly HOT for weeks and months at a stretch down here, I realize it all balances out! What a lovely planet we have here, and weather is one of the reasons it's habitable, but there are times. . . . - Perhaps we are being "told something" - like, don't put ourselves in harm's way when the weather is extreme. LOL What's good for killing off harmful germs or making cantaloupe sweet may not be best for our bodies per se. hehe

Well we just had our big snow storm Tuesday night some 20 inches of snow reported in some areas, local stations

preempted regular programing all day and facebook, that's all everyone was talking about. Big excitement! It's really a blessing when you can stay warm inside!

Healing Touch. Hi. That Metrodome picture was a little frightening.

We can't imagine what it is like to live in a country where snow storms are the norm.

It all looks so beautiful and magical.

You were pretty brave running out in that weather in the middle of the night, but on the other hand you do what you have to do.

The photographs were pretty impressive.

How do you keep warm, with wood fires or boilers. I was thinking that with gas or electricity the pipes would freeze.

Thanks for sharing this with us. I guess we are lucky, as we do not have snow where we live. Voted up. :) :)
