Knowledge + Experience = ???

In your own perpectives, what are the other ways of obtaining knowledge rather than just by reading a book?

There are endless possibilities for everyone to gain knowledge. No boundaries existed in obtaining knowledge. Knowledge is a very wide subject and you will not reach any maximum quota in gaining knowledge itself.

People tend to get bored if they read books all the time. The size or thickness of the book should not be measured. It would be meaningless and endless reading as if you were singing without the correct tune. In addition, not all things can be applied to real life. Man (*sigh*)...I believe that most of us...to be frank would not understand what we have read. Books can be quite compact and sometimes the facts are too much for us to understand. Knowledge can be gained in anyway and in fact, knowledge is gained everyday, either directly or indirectly.

Let me quote an example for this topic of gaining knowledge. The students in school may read about New Zealand. No matter how many facts they have learnt from reading, they could not visualize how New Zealand looks like, "live" with their very own eyes. Only when they have step foot there, will the students learn and find something that was hidden from the books that they have read. It's "Bungee Jumping". One of the main tourist attraction which can be found in New Zealand. "Bungee Jumping" is an activity or sport that requires someone with a lot of courage, self-confidence, and co-operation before they go ahead and jump. With this, I conclude that discovery is knowledge in disguise.

Just by going through this thrilling, heart-stopping obstacle, one can gained all those above-mentioned qualities. By managing to gauge their limits, one will learn more about themselves, learn about the proper way to jump. Most importantly, they learn to be calm before the jump. This will be quite an incentive when applied in the real world, when one has to face challenges in life, with a calm mind.

Growing, learning, experience gets depicted in my mind whenever I came across the word knowledge. To ensure that you obtain the purpose of learning, all the human senses are required.

Another way of gaining knowledge rather than just reading books is that, you make it an experience for yourself. Water rafting, for example, can be an out of this world adventure, but you have to be aware that it's dangerous too. As the phrase goes, "There's no 'I' in team". Teamwork, cooperation and perseverance are needed to row the raft and fight the strong currents. Besides, you will learn not to give up so easily, even though your arms are sore. Knowledge is wide, by just doing a single activity, you already learn a lot of things that you carry with you throughout your whole life.

Working is another way of gaining knowledge. Working experience is useful as it teaches you the condition and environment in the life of a working person. Previously, people who do sales and business, do not know about their product but soon, they will learn the origins of the product they sold, how the end product came to be and the ingredients used to make the product. As days goes by, they will learn more things and soon, they will know what is best for their business.

Surfing the internet is also a great way of gaining knowledge. Furthermore, it is much simpler for the brain to absorb. In simplicity, there are videos, sounds and pictures to go with the learning process. In other words, the internet provides a source of direct information. With direct given information, the knowledge gained will be absorbed at a faster rate as the brain can allows and process a huge amount of it, especially, when a person understands it very well.

Sharing with someone can be considered knowledge too. You can discover and learn how his way of life is like and how he conquers all the challenges in his life. From there, you will begin to compare yourself with him/her and gradually learn how to live a way better life to the fullest. Learn that you never take things for granted and respect people around you. Learn about what they do and about their traditions. Just by interacting, you will know the other person way of life and his traditions. Thus, knowledge is obtained once again.

In conclusion, gaining knowledge is and will forever be a big thing. It is so incapable of being perceived by the sense of touch and with no reasonable bounds or limits, that there are unlimited ways of obtaining it. In order to gain knowledge, people have to learn and learning takes place anywhere regardless of place and time. It is part of a prospect in life. Working, interacting, travelling and exploring have been elaborated above. All these and more helps us to gain knowledge.

So, it's not shocking and surprising if you come across someone, who is in the process of learning how to sweep the floor, which may be considered as gaining knowledge.
