Le Corbusier

February 16, 2008 - Update:

Yesterday, my fabulous, glamourous friend, María Rita Caso, visiting from New York, stopped by for coffee. Flipping through a catalogue for Design Within Reach, she mentioned that they are the certified dealer of Le Corbusier furniture. I have admired Le Corbusier virtually my whole life, and so I mumbled, "He's a famous architect, too." María Rita politely whispered, "I know."

The French Prince of Modern Architecture

This page in evolution is dedicated to Le Corbusier, French architect of noble proportions, who explored spacial relationships, always questioning the status quo in favor of invention. A believer in the golden mean ratio, Le Corbusier created works of mathematical wonder as well as temples to the human form.

Please return to this site often as together, we can learn more about this great architect and philosopher, who in his nighttime form painted, under a different name. Would anyone care to hedge a guess as to what that name is? The grand prize is to be known as someone Offically Erudite.

Answer not upside down on this page.

Ministry of Education and Health Building, in Rio de Janeiro. Designed by Lucio Costa, Oscar Niemeyer, Afonso Eduardo Reidy and Carlos Leao, with colaboration of Le Corbusier.

Here, we feature Le Corbusier pieces on auction.

It's up to you to ascertain their provenance. Make sure to authenticate your finds.

I'm going to guess you are talking about Charles-Edouard Jeanneret who painted under his maternal grandmother's name. Am I close?

Have always loved Corbusier and the first item of furniture I bought when I moved into my French barn conversion was a Corbusier chair - the contrast between timbered roof, raw stone walls and modern chrome and black leather works really well.

Thank you, Clive, for visiting and for your comments. I enjoy the contrast of rustic and modern as well. I would love to feature a photo of your space if you'd like to send it.
