Fun With the Myers-Briggs (Personality) Type Inventory (MBTI) - An Experiment; Please Join

Starting to Get Interesting Results

BUT First, I NEED HELP - I need some more Extraverts to participate

While the number of people participating is still pretty low, there are enough to begin seeing some patterns develop from the various experiments below such as more people who test out as "Intuitors" tend to be Left-handed than any other type or INTPs might be leaning toward Atheism or Spiritualism as opposed to Monotheism.

Please join the experiment.

SEARCHING FOR ANSWERS

THE MBTI PROFILE OR MYERS-BRIGGS TYPE INVENTORY attempts to describe a persons personality in terms of:

  1. How you interact with the world (E-I)
  2. Where you get your information (S-N)
  3. How you process that information (T-F)
  4. How you present the results of that process to the world (J-P)

I and other hubbers have looked in depth at each of these characteristics and have defined them well in other hubs (see Related Links), so I will just briefly rehearse (some of the lecturers I listen to love to use that word, makes them sound hoity-toity) what comprise those four bullets. You see two letters, e.g., E-I, after each bullet. They represent the two opposite ways that particular characteristic is expressed.

For example, take the first bullet; 'E' stands for Extrovert and 'I' stands for Introvert; terms you are probably familiar with. Each side of the characteristic has a range of values, from 1 - 9 I believe, where 9 is the extreme end of that personality trait. So, if you scored an E-9 on the MBTI survey, you would be a very gregarious individual indeed. If were an I-9, which I almost am, you would be very painfully shy in normal settings.

EXTROVERT-E and INTROVERT-I

Now, for E and I, gregariousness and shyness are just the outward expression of something more fundamental. Extroverts and Introverts draw their energy, the thing that keeps them awake, from two distinctly different sources. Extroverts draw their energy from the people around them, they feed off the energy from others, amplify it and return it. Introverts draw their energy from within themselves. Those things that keep an Introvert going bore the hell out of Extroverts and being around people sap all of the energy out of an Introvert. This is not something somebody chooses but is, for the most part, the way they are wired and how that wiring interacts with their environment. The same is true for the other three factors

SENSOR - S and INTUITIVE - N

EXTROVERSION AND INTROVERSION ARE HOW WE PRESENT ourselves to the world around us. Sensor and Intuitive (Intuition) are how we perceive information and they are as different as night and day. A high scoring Sensor and a high scoring iNtuitive have an extremely difficult time communicating with each other. Unless one or the other is a very patient and understanding person, then this can lead to serious conflict in peer-to-peer interactions but even more so in a superior-subordinate relationship.

Sensors, as the name implies, draw their information from the five senses; hearing, feeling, seeing, smelling, and tasting. There is no intermediate step between physically sensing the bit of information, converting it in brain, and understanding what it is. For an iNtuitive, there is such an additional step. Once the information is perceived, it gets lost with all of the other bits of information and understanding derives from the "intuitive" process of combining all of the information together in the subconscious.

For example, if you tell a Sensor it is "hot outside".they may look at a thermometer or ask you what the temperature is. If you cannot provide them that information, then they will probably go outside to check it out. Tell the iNtuitor the same thing and they may agree with you because they already know 1) it is July, 2) it is noon, and 3) you are in Florida; who needs to see a thermometer or know the temperature to understand the statement to be true. Sensors are from Missouri and iNtuitives are not (assuming you are old enough to know the reference.)

FEELER - F and THINKER - T

THIS IS THE THIRD CHARACTERISTIC, how do you process the information you have? Do you let your emotions take over, 'F', or do you use logic to figure things out, 'T'? As with the others, this is situational, but maybe more so. My score makes me a very weak 'T', a score of 1 or 2 if I remember correctly. When I am writing my hubs, i tend to use the Thinking side of this personality trait, but when I dealing personnel issues with my company, I process information through my "heart" as they like to say. The stronger a 'T' I am, however, the less likely it is that you will let emotion cloud your decision making. Likewise, the higher the score on the Feeling side, the "rationale" your decisions are. Although they may be perfectly good decisions, they will befuddle a strong Thinking type.

JUDGER - J and PERCEIVER - P

THIS IS A TRICKY ONE. WHILE THE FIRST three personality types come straight from work by the scientist Carl Jung, this last one is a creation of Myers and Briggs. This characteristic sort of circles back to how you present your decision-making to the outside world. If you are a Judger, 'J', you relate to the world as an F-T, the processing function, if you are a perceiver, then S-N would be your style as they relate to gathering. That doesn't mean those (S-N or F-T) are what your scores came out to be, it is just how you prefer to come across to others.

Judgers are: planners, list-makers, and sure-footed in their judgement. Perceivers are procrastinators, always looking for more information, indecisive.

FINDING YOUR MBTI SCORE

I HAVE TAKEN THE MBTI SEVERAL TIMES over the past 30 years, and it has been consistently the same. I found a site for this Hub where you can take the survey yourself, if you choose. It is at HumanMetrics.com. It is a quick, 72-question survey (the real on is about 120 questions long) and only takes a few minutes.

I took it again and received these results:

Introvert(100%) iNtuitive(75%) Feeling(12%) Perceiving(33)%

  • You have strong preference of Introversion over Extraversion (100%)
  • You have distinctive preference of Intuition over Sensing (75%)
  • You have slight preference of Feeling over Thinking (12%)
  • You have moderate preference of Perceiving over Judging (33%)

That is the first time the result has changed, I must be getting soft in my old age; the third category, Feeling over Thinking used to be reversed by about the same amount. Also, my Perceiving score is normally higher. (They used a percent scale instead of a 1 - 9 scale). If you look at my 'I' score, you can see why I write hubs rather than give lectures. The N-P combination explains why most of my hubs contain polls of one sort or another.

THE POINT OF THIS HUB

SPEAKING OF POLLING, THAT IS WHY I WROTE THIS HUB, to gather information. INTPs or INFPs both "wonder" a lot; they are curious about a lot of things and I am no exception. What follows is an increasing number of polls (as I think of questions to ask) to see if I can determine certain relationships between MBTI scores and other human characteristics; you will see what I mean when you get to the questions.

You, dear reader, are my subjects in this experiment, if you so choose to be. That, in and of itself will introduce some bias because people with certain combination of MBTI functions have already found this Hub boring and have gone elsewhere, some aren't interested in HubPages at all, for that matter. Over time, however, I should get enough answers to see if my hypotheses are correct; hypotheses which I will keep to myself for the time being (so as not to influence the outcome), but will publish later at an appropriate time.

So Please, keep coming back.

It is interesting to note the percentages in bold are what is found in the general population; and the percentages on the right is the representative sample of hubbers who take the survey and answer these polls. After 144 results so far (and 33 Extravert reports), the deviation for INFJs and INTJs is rather astonishing as is the total lack of ESxx, which normally account for 34% of the general population! It makes a pretty clear statement about the characteristics of people who enjoy Hubpages and this kind of information.

IT IS EXTREMELY INTERESTING THAT IT HAS BECOME OBVIOUS readers who participate in the this poll (or the one for Extraverts) are not representative of the population as a whole. More generally, there is enough evidence that those who participate in general are a horse of another color was well. In fact, I can state with a degree of certainty that Hubbers and the general population are polar opposites. Note that Introvert - Intuitors (INs) make up only 12% of the general population, yet in this survey and an astounding 63% of Hubbers who read this Hub are INs!

Do Different MBTI Concentrate in Different Religions?

5/7/15: WHILE PONDERING THE FUNDAMENTAL DIFFERENCES between groups of religions, I began wondering if different personality types gravitate to one religion or another. Consequently, I thought it would be interesting to try to find out.

Below are a series of polls, each one lists a major group regarding one's belief system; and this includes no religion. Please pick the question which contains the group you most closely associate with and select your MBTI from the list provided.

Thank you.

TABLE 2 - DETAILED LOOK AT MBTI vs BELIEFS

It does seem, at this point in time, that some patterns are developing. Looking at Table 2 it should be easy to discern at least one thing which has a chance of actually being a real difference, had that is that Introverts seem to lean toward non-Monotheism while Extraverts appear to do the opposite. The fact that 'Is' and 'Es' produce possibly significant opposite results would help support the hypothesis that being introverted or extraverted makes a difference. Only time will tell. (for the record, I am a very introverted spiritualist.)

Other things that stand out to me are:

  • Of non-Monotheists, Feelers seem to lead to Spiritualism
  • Of non-Monotheists, Intuitors seem to lead to Atheism
  • Of non-Monotheists, Intutitor-Feelers lean toward Spiritualism (given the above results, however, this is likely to even out)
  • Of non-Monotheists, Feeling-Percievers lean to Spiritualism
  • Of non-Monotheists, Thinking-Percievers lean to Atheism
  • Nothing pops out for the Monotheists yet.

HYPOTHESIS #1 - HANDEDNESS

My first survey has to do with whether or not there is any relationship between handedness and certain aspects of our personality traits; specifically how we gather and process information. I believe it is fairly well established that there are measurable differences between right-handed and left-handed people. I want to see if it shows up in the MBTI.

CONSIDERATIONS FOR HANDEDNESS RESULTS

One source I found said that 7-8% of people in the non-US world are left-handed, while 9-10% of Americans are lefties. Another source suggests that 10-11% of Americans are southpaws of which 9.7% are male and 12.5% are female. The common number used in America is 10%.

Using this information, if handedness was evenly distributed among MBTI groups, then around 10% of each of the above categories would report being left-handed; this is what is called an "unbiased" result; meaning there are no external influences handedness. To the degree the actual outcomes vary from 10% indicates there is some force or forces acting on handedness which introduces a bias toward one hand more than the other. Given that both handedness and Meyers-Briggs' Types are genetically driven, then one might suppose that there might be a link between the two. That is what this section is exploring

Right now, with 111 respondents one can start to make educated guesses about possible relationships between MBTI and handedness. Based on the tables below and keeping in mind that

1) Extraverts and Introverts were left out of the first survey,

2) There is a major under representation of Extraverts in the overall sample so far, and

3) there appears to be a bias toward lefties in the S-N, F-T groups,

To get additional information, I added a new poll asking for the handedness of Extraverts and Introverts. So if you are reading this part to see what is new but have taken the polls already, please go back and take this new poll. Thank you.

From Table 2, there is a clear pattern beginning to emerge. While 49 responses is very small, the differences are beginning to take shape. Right now, 18% of the total surveys are Left-handed. I suspect this will keep dropping to around 10%. Note, however, the Ns and the Ts, it would appear, are going to be overrepresented byleft-handers. Only time (and more survey results) will tell.

HYPOTHESIS #2 - INTELLIGENCE and MBTI

People can be intelligent in many different ways. Normally we think of a high IQ (intelligence quotient) being related to scientists, but that is necessary the case. You can have geniuses in advertising, art, entrepreneurs, etc; each one of those have a different combination of of MBTI functions. This is what I am trying to ferret out here.

To take this survey, you need to know your MBTI and have an idea of what your IQ score is. It doesn't need to be exact for I am just looking at ranges with 100 being "normal". This will be a series of three polls as I am testing for various personality functions.

I have 40 responses now, so I can start taking a crack at drawing some meaning out of the results. The first thing to establish is that the demographic the statistics represent is a very select group, and they are: 1) people who are drawn to Hubpages, either directly, but more importantly, via search engines or other means, 2) of the group in 1), those who like Hubs on subjects like this, 3) out of those, the people who don't mind responding to these kinds of surveys. Needless to say, there is a lot of the population not represented in our sample and a bunch of potential bias is present, especially when the sample size is small like 40 is. A sample of 1000 would be much better.

HYPOTHESIS #3 - TOLERANCE vs E, I, S, N, J, and P

In the earlier discussion I observed that a strong S and a strong N will have a very hard time understanding the other and can become rather frustrated over the others behavior. The frustration arises from the fact that each simply doesn't understand nor picture the process the other is using to gather information. This can lead to difficult situations and I am wondering if there are MBTI combinations that might lend themselves to these to types working together.

Again, it is a series of polls, one for Extroverts and the other for Introverts. Beyond that, the questions are the same.

A LITTLE ANALYSIS REGARDING TOLERANCE FOR OTHERS POINT'S OF VIEW

CURRENTLY, 31 EXTROVERTS AND 53 INTROVERTS HAVE RESPONDED to this question; there are several ways to cut it. So let's get into it. From the table below, a few numbers should pop out at you, the three in the bottom right corner.

What I am trying to discern is if certain personality types believe they are more or less "tolerant" of others. At first blush, that may be the case, but don't take it to the bank just yet. It still seems , with 30 more votes in, would seem that a N or iNtuitive-type personality think they are pretty good at handling situations where each side looks at an issue from differing perspectives without getting bent out of shape.

It now appears that Ps, Perceivers, also fall on the tolerant side where they don't get particularly upset with people who have other point's view.

HYPOTHESIS #4 - "DETAILEDNESS" vs E, I, S, N, J, and P

IN MY OBSERVATIONS, THERE IS AN UNMISTAKABLE DIFFERENCE between people who are detailed oriented and those who are not (at least one commenter, who prompted this question, and myself aren't). These next few surveys are to try to discern what characteristics to look for, say when you are hiring somebody to do data entry work, something my company is in great need of.

E - I DO YOU PERCEIVE YOURSELF TO BE DETAILED ORIENTED?

  • E - YES
  • E - NO
  • E - NOT SURE
  • I - YES
  • I - NO
  • I - NOT SURE

EXTRAVERTS seem a little uncertain as to whether or not they are detailed oriented (although I wouldn't take much stock in just 7 responses). INTROVERTS, on the other hand are much more certain as to what they are, they are just split as to whether they are detailed-oriented or not.

With 26 responses, the picture hasn't changed much.

With 50 responses, the picture is appearing to change, but we won't know for awhile. 20% of Es either think of themselves as not being "detailed" oriented or don't know for sure. But, only 4% think that they are. That is the beginning of a difference, but not statistically so.

For Introverts, its starting to look like it is going to be evenly split.

S-N DO YOU PERCEIVE YOURSELF TO BE DETAILED ORIENTED?

  • S - YES
  • S - NO
  • S - NOT SURE
  • N - YES
  • N - NO
  • N - NOT SURE

It is way too soon to tell whether SENSORS are detailed-oriented or not, but INTUITORS are starting to lean toward not being so much.

After 26 results, the picture has become murky.

With 42 results, its starting to look like iNtuitives will be evenly split between detailed oriented or the alternative.

F - T DO YOU PERCEIVE YOURSELF TO BE DETAILED ORIENTED?

  • F - YES
  • F - NO
  • F - NOTE SURE
  • T - YES
  • T - NO
  • T - NOT SURE
See results without voting

FEELERS seem, at first blush, to be leaving details to others while the jury is still out for THINKERS.

With 26 responses, the first blush seems to be holding up. Same, same for 44 responses.

J-P DO YOU PERCEIVE YOURSELF TO BE DETAILED ORIENTED?

  • J - YES
  • J - NO
  • J - NOT SURE
  • P - YES
  • P - NO
  • P - NOT SURE
See results without voting

The fact the JUDGERS are leaning slightly toward less detailedness surprises me. We will see what time will tell. PERCEIVERS, on the other hand, are split; which also surprises me.

This is why early results can be misleading. While 25 (now 43) responses is still small, it is a tiny bit more reliable; and right now it is saying being a Judger or a Perceiver does not influence one's ability pay attention to detail.

HYPOTHESIS #5 - YOUR MBTI INFLUENCES YOUR POLITICAL AFFILIATION

IT SEEMS TO ME THAT POLITICAL AFFILIATIONS SHOULD sort themselves out into MBTI categories. When you read through the definitions of E-I, S-N, F-T, and J-P I get a sense of which ones those leaning Right and Left may be associated with. For those of us who think they. as a rule, don't lean either way, it may be harder to determine.

Let's find out.

I thought I would start keeping track of how these numbers develop over time. Initially -

N = 9

And 2 Extraverts and 7 Introverts responded so far.

If one were foolish enough to draw a conclusion from this small sample, one would think:

  • Extraverts tended to lean to the Left
  • Introverts tended to be thoughtful or lean to the Right

With N = 24

  • Extraverts still tending to lean toward the Left
  • Introverts are now lean toward the Left while staying thoughtful.

We will see what the next period brings.

It brings, with 48 results, some statistically significant differences (which sort of surprises me); which is that - The difference between the politically Left-Right and Left-Middle for Introverts IS significant. Therefore:

  • Introverts are more likely to be Left-leaning than Right-leaning
  • Introverts are more likely to be Left-leaning than Middle of the Road

POLITICAL LEANINGS vs SENSOR-FEELER (SF) or INTUITIVE-FEELER (NF)

If You Are S-F or N-F, Please Select the Choice That Seems Most Appropriate

  • S-F - LEAN TO THE LEFT MOST OF THE TIME
  • S-F - LEAN TO THE RIGHT MOST OF THE TIME
  • S-F - FREQUENTLY SPLIT MY LEANINGS, DEPENDING ON THE ISSUE
  • S-F - OTHER
  • N-F - LEAN TO THE LEFT MOST OF THE TIME
  • N-F - LEAN TO THE RIGHT MOST OF THE TIME
  • N-F - FREQUENTLY SPLIT MY LEANINGS, DEPENDING ON THE ISSUE
  • N-F - OTHER
See results without voting

N = 5

with 1 Sensor-Feeler and 4 Intuitor-Feelers

Again, if one were foolish enough to draw a conclusion from this very small sample, one would think:

  • Sensor-Feelers tend to lean to the Right
  • Intuitor-Feelers tend to be thoughtful or lean to the Left

N = 11

  • Sensor-Feelers are now split one each
  • Intuitor-Feelers are starting to lean heavily to being thoughtful or to the Left (but still don't read much into it)

We will see what the next period brings.

Again, with 23 results we have a couple of significant differences:

  • Intuitor-Feelers are much more likely to lean to the Left than to the Right
  • Intuitor-Feelers are much more likely to lean to the Left than to be in the Middle

POLITICAL LEANINGS vs SENSOR-THINKER (ST) or INTUITIVE-THINKER (NT)

If You Are S-T or N-T, Please Select the Choice That Seems Most Appropriate

  • S-T - LEAN TO THE LEFT MOST OF THE TIME
  • S-T - LEAN TO THE RIGHT MOST OF THE TIME
  • S-T - FREQUENTLY SPLIT MY LEANINGS, DEPENDING ON THE ISSUE
  • S-T - OTHER
  • N-T - LEAN TO THE LEFT MOST OF THE TIME
  • N-T - LEAN TO THE RIGHT MOST OF THE TIME
  • N-T - FREQUENTLY SPLIT MY LEANINGS, DEPENDING ON THE ISSUE
  • N-T - OTHER
See results without voting

N = 5

Here, we have no Sensor-Thinkers yet, therefore there are 5 Intuitor-Thinkers at the moment.

If one were still foolish enough to draw a conclusion from this small sample, one would think:

  • Sensor-Thinkers (don't like to take polls?)
  • Intuitor-Thinkers tend to be thoughtful or lean to the Right

N = 12

  • Sensor-Thinkers still don't like taking polls
  • Intuitor-Thinkers is more or less undetermined at this point.

We will see what the next period brings.

With 21 results, there are still no significantly different outcomes

POLITICAL LEANINGS vs JUDGMENTAL (J) or PERCEPTIVE (P)

If You Are J or P, Please Select the Choice That Seems Most Appropriate

  • J - LEAN TO THE LEFT MOST OF THE TIME
  • J - LEAN TO THE RIGHT MOST OF THE TIME
  • J - FREQUENTLY SPLIT MY LEANINGS, DEPENDING ON THE ISSUE
  • J - OTHER
  • P - LEAN TO THE LEFT MOST OF THE TIME
  • P - LEAN TO THE RIGHT MOST OF THE TIME
  • P - FREQUENTLY SPLIT MY LEANINGS, DEPENDING ON THE ISSUE
  • P - OTHER
See results without voting

N = 10

And 6 Judgers and 4 Perceivers responded so far.

One more time, if one were foolish enough to draw a conclusion from this small sample, one would think:

  • Judgers tend to lean to the Right
  • Perceivers tend to be Thoughtful or lean to the Left

N = 18

  • Judgers are starting show they know who they are, either Right or Left, and clearly aren't flip-floppers
  • Perceivers are still leaning heavily to being thoughtful or to the Left (but also don't read much into this either)

N = 35

  • Perceivers are much more likely to be on the Left than on the Right
  • Perceivers are much more likely to be on the Left than in the Middle
  • Judgers are much more likely to be on the Right than in the Middle

IS WHAT WAS SAID REALLY WHAT WAS MEANT

ANOTHER INTERESTING AREA IN LIFE that seems to always cause problems is the well known rule that "What you say, is rarely what they heard". I was writing hub on a different subject when this question popped up.

ACCEPTING WORDS WITH NUMBERS AT FACE VALUE

When I say,'Based on these sets of assumptions, I estimate economic growth to average 4% per year.". Do you ...

  • S-J: HAVE FEW PROBLEMS WHEN 6-MONTHS LATER I CHANGE MY ESTIMATE TO 4.5% BASED ON NEW EVIDENCE?

If everything were absolutely random, then each 4-letter group would account for 6.25% of the population (there are 16 4-letter groups). How Do Hubbers Who Like These Surveys Compare?

Observations:

  • Clearly, whether you are a Judger or Perceiver makes no difference in your interest in these types of Hubs.
  • Also, Feelers and Thinkers both seem to enjoy mental exercises like this.
  • The differences show up between Extraverts/Introverts and Sensors/Intuitors. At the moment, these show up in the simple fact that neither Extraverts nor Sensors even make it this far. In other words, Hubs of this genre hold very little interest to Extraverts or Sensors.

That is all for now, but will add more as I (or YOU through your comments) can think of them.

For those of you who participated, thank you very much, for those of you who didn't, thank you for taking the time to read this hub and consider its results.

My results are very different then they would've been prior to motherhood lol. My results were INTJ where before I was very social and extroverted. My results were also moderate or slight preferences rather than extreme.

Thanks for taking the time to read and participate. I can imagine motherhood is a definite life changing event which can easily change your perspective. I should said in the discussion that the MBTI is how you see yourself, how you want to be; not necessarily how others see you although most often it is. Like most things in life, the extremes are the exception.

I also did promotional modeling for 6 years that paid me to be in the spotlight and mandated I talk to every single person. That got a lot of social extroversion out of my system lol!

My score has changed significantly since the last time I took the test. I've retired since then, and stay at home a lot more.

It will be interesting to learn the results of your experiment. I hope a lot of people answer the polls.

Voted up, useful, interesting and shared

All personality and psychology surveys fascinate me, My Esoteric. This HUB was thought provoking and fun. Since taking the MB test (work etc.), my profile has never changed from being an INFP. Thank you for allowing us to share in your experiment.

The Meyers Briggs test is awesome. It explains so much. I'll take the test you provided when I have some more time, even though I've taken the test before, many years ago. Fact is, I don't know my numbers scores... and that is apparently significant.

Anyway, what I really want to say is that knowing how others process thoughts can help relationships immensely and even give us more tolerance. At least, that has been my experience. Thank you for this insightful article. Up & useful.

Your quite welcome savvy. To your point, my Dir of Accounting is an ESTJ where I am totally opposite with an INTP or INFP. He needs to know where the left foot is before placing his right foot and trying to communicate with him in such a serial fashion stymie's me just as my jumping to conclusions without physically having gone through all of the facts baffles him. While he can't Intuit his way out of a paper bag, part of an INTP's make-up is patience which allows me to slow down and lead him through the steps. Fortunately, I am his boss so he can't show his annoyance too much, lol.

Yes, excellent point. I am an INTP (as far as I know) and some people puzzle me immensely. The other interesting thing is that our type is the most widely understood. No doubt, you can also relate to that! My understanding is that INTP's/INFP's are not particularly common--in general, except in an "arena" such as this one, where people gather together to write, think, feel, and intuit.

Thanks for relating a personal example. I love it when people respond that way, so I decided to leave one more comment just to say so. :)

Reading the dialogue between you and Savvy in Comments reminded me that use of the Myers-Briggs in the company from which I'm now retired was encouraged for the purpose of helping top managers interact through better understanding of each other's personalities. It did help me understand both my own boss (the division director) and the finance VP, both of whom matched your accounting director. I, on the other hand, am more intuitive. I can only hope test results helped them understand me!

Thank you @savvy. Did you mean to say "widely understood" or "widely misunderstood"? INTP account for 1 - 3%. as does INFP.

@Jayne, not that your old boss and VP couldn't learn from and apply MBTI, the odds are stacked against them, it is not in their nature, lol.

Hi My Esoteric. I meant misunderstood, which explains my life... and probably Jayne's and yours too... lol Thanks for asking.

(I hate it when I don't proofread well enough.)

It does, for sure, and I am a terrible proofreader as well. You just gave me a new survey question, btw.

I find the Myers Briggs type indicator to be very interesting and accurate. I tested as an INFP as you did. I thought you were an INTP, you seem to detached to be an INFP.

I am borderline F-T, sort of like a T-2. But, it is quite situational. Put me in a human relations setting, and I tilt quite heavily to an F, but in a business environment, the T gets more weight.

Thanks for stopping by, send others :-)

My Esoteric-

I would bounce the F-T idea off someone with a feeling preference. I'm not sure an INFP could survive being an Army major or enjoy verbal sparring the way you do.

From what I've seen, you have tact but will have no problem stepping on toes if that's what it takes to get your point across. Logic and reason trumps how you feel every time. I think you're more interested in hard facts and logic and less interested in feelings. That's why I still have you as an INTP but I could be wrong.

True, sort of. Put me in front of a keyboard, I am one person, but face-to-face, that is another matter entirely. Also, the F is involved with decision making and when it comes to decisions about the fate of people, e.g., my employees, keyboard or not, the F normally wins out ... I tend to be the softy of my other two partners, and they are female.

But, right now, I am in a knock-down, drag-out fight with them over whether to close an office (not a personal issue) or not and they have forced me to do what I rarely do ... step, stomp really, on their toes, which really is not in my nature at all; I understand the art of compromise well when it comes to practical matters. And you are right, in this battle, I am T all the way ... and J, while I am at it.

I have always been fascinated by my personality type and just knowing about it makes me feel a little at ease with some of the issues I face in day to day life. Being an ENTJ can be frustrating. Always wanting the best for people even if it means they hate you.

This article is great. Good work :)

I am amazed by the quantity and detail of your hubs.

As you know, I am not a fan of statistics in general, and especially for human predictions.

What I see in my world of experience is far too many passive aggressive personality types.

These people are clandestine extroverts masquerading as your friend. You can slap on a Myer-Briggs classification, but these people transcend those classifications.

They are not what they seem to be, and you don't know what they are really, until they strike. Even when they strike, they are cloaked in a veil of wolf in a sheep's clothing.

Why did I pick on passive aggressive personalities is because I find them hard to detect, and you never know what they really think about anything. If I was in a political atmosphere as a congressmen, I would see more of them. But, in that environment, passive aggressive would just be a synonym for politician.

I don't believe that you can actually put a passive aggressive into any MB category with any certainty. And if you took a poll of personalities, how truthful would a passive aggressive be in answering whether they thought they were passive aggressive?

Just a thought

@Bradmaster, I don't know that the MBTI was designed to identify P-A or similar personality types. It seems to me any one of the 16 MBTIs could include P-A individuals.

I think the MBTI is more an indicator of how a person gains or loses energy in relation to other people, how they gain and process information, and how they present that to the world. Overlaid on top of that is what you suggest.

For example, P-A won't explain why few extraverts participate in this hub and why no, so far, extravert-senor's have. The MBTI, on the other hand, can suggest a reason. Sensors don't believe in this type of "touchy-feely" type of subject and extraverts don't have time for it.

I lived in South America and they have terrible corruption and politicians are there for self-interest.

However, they don't seem to have much in terms of patriotism or Christian group identity.

I wonder if this is a difference between left and right followers of authority?

Also, they do have unquestioning followers of the political party on the left, mostly the poor and uneducated.

Thank you Leon for reading, commenting, and asking a really great question. While this question relates more to my Hub on Right-wing Authoritarian (RWA) followers, but; after giving it some thought, I will attempt an answer here.

One thing I can offer right now is that while high scoring RWAs occur on both the left and right, the factors that determine whether someone will blindly follow an authority figure are more common on the right. Also, it is my opinion, when someone moves to far to the Left (communism), they cross the boundary into Right territory
