Modern Inspirational Korean Quotes

As a nation, a society, a family and an individual,
we must be grateful to our great ancestors who dedicated their lives to
laying the infrastructure of our livelihood today.
Let’s continue their path and build upon it.

At the moment when you feel like you have reached the point of absolute exhaustion,
inspire yourself to take one last step,
and that is when you have successfully arrived to the next level.

Be mindful of every little pleasure in life,
By living everyday like it’s your last day.

Become a champion in life,
By conquering the enemy within.

Be fully present in the moment no matter what you are doing,
the best in you will reveal itself.

Do not weep; do not notify my men of my death. Beat the drum, blow the trumpet, wave the flag for advance. We are still fighting; finish the enemy to the last one.

How do you love? You fall in to it!!
It is a continuous and ever-lasting feeling,
even if you don’t express it at all times.

Include a few moments of quiet time into your daily schedule;
Breath deeply, evaluate your thoughts, delete the negative ones
and reset your mind to a positive perspective by
counting your blessings and overflowing opportunities.

I used the term (information superhighway) in a study I wrote for the Rockefeller Foundation in 1974. I thought: if you create a highway, then people are going to invent cars. That's dialectics. If you create electronic highways, something has to happen.

In conflict, sometimes the best tactic is,
to allow the force to pass by like a wind or,
like the water running down the river.

In the circle of life,
Respect and gratitude are due by juniors to seniors and vice versa
at any given level;
for the juniors to get inspired by the seniors,
for the seniors to get reminded of their accomplishments.

In the process of trial and error,
Our failed attempts are meant to destroy arrogance and provoke humility.

One piece of log creates a small fire, adequate to warm you up,
add just a few more pieces to blast an immense bonfire,
large enough to warm up your entire circle of friends;
needless to say that individuality counts but team work dynamites.

Our life is half natural and half technological. Half-and-half is good. You cannot deny that high-tech is progress. We need it for jobs. Yet if you make only high-tech, you make war. So we must have a strong human element to keep modesty and natural life.

Positive or negative energy is exchanged like a fair trade,
the more you give, the more you receive.

Practice opening and closing your eyes a few times a day,
with the awareness of letting go of your dark feelings
to the brightness of the light.

Relationships flourish,
when individuality, freedom and growth are respected.

Relationships are like sparring;
within the appropriate space,
action and reaction naturally flow.

Rituals involving strenuous and/or repetitive physical movements
are meant to free the mind of all frivolous thoughts and divert the focus
to the point of one-mindedness or absolute concentration.

Remove the road blocks as you come across them.
Otherwise, you will have to climb a high mountain.

Seek a sanctuary,
Respect it, as it is holy,
Walk into it with a bare mind, bare feet and plain clothing,
Nurture your body, mind and spirit through a healing ritual,
Leave it with a pure heart until you find your way to it again.

Set goals,
Put forth the best in you,
Never compete with anyone but yourself.

Skin has become inadequate in interfacing with reality. Technology has become the body's new membrane of existence.

The key to a good life is to keep it simple,
yet creating simplicity is such a complex issue.

The world can be viewed in many different ways,
depending on the type of glasses we choose to wear,
happy or sad ones, blue or red ones, or….

The essence of life is sought through polarities such as health and illness, happiness and suffering, wealth and poverty and so on.

The future is now.

To keep life safe,
Be conscious of the invisible red and green signals.

The soldier who fights to death never dies, but the soldier who fights for existence never truly exists.

What is the difference between knowledge and wisdom?
Knowledge is gained by gathering data, whereas,
Wisdom is earned by going through actual life experiences.

When you intentionally cross the red light,
then you will consciously deal with the consequences.

We seek excellence,
by constant trial and error.

Thank you so much for your lovely comment, ListLady. South Korea is one of my favourite places to visit too. It'd be nice to be able to live there for a year or two and get the opportunity to immerse in their culture. You are really lucky to have done that. I'd love to read more about your experience in Korea.

Love the wishing tree photo - when I was teaching in Seoul I visited this village and of course put my wish on the tree.

These quotes certainly represent the Korean philosophy of living each day. I have never lived each day so much and so fully as I did when I lived in S. Korea. Some of the best years of my life.

What kindness, what people, what food, what technology, what respect for elders, what an educational system, what a wonderful quality of life.

Thanks for the lovely hub - rated up!

Beautiful words, thank you.

(Sorry, I saw a small typo: "Include a few moments of quite time into your daily schedule..." should be "quiet.")

"Wisdom is earned by going through actual life experiences." This is one of my favorites because it is similar to one I use often:

Good judgment comes from experience, and experience comes from bad judgment! :)
