Moments that Transform

By Tony DeLorger © 2011

Moments short in life’s long play capture our hearts and give reason for the journey. It is never the triumphs that linger, or the failures that bind us to paths of struggle. It is the moments of transformation, of realisation that we imbibe and as a consequence, change us forever. It could be as simple as a tender touch, a kindness, a gesture of selfless love or an answer given that elevates our souls to greater heights.

We are simple creatures, born of the potential to love, to experience emotions and to understand life through them. They are what define us, revealing our darkest fears and our greatest gifts. Within our minds is the power to soar in flight and to unleash creativity and imagination that can transform the world, give rise to miracles of accomplishment. It is single moments in which these potentials are realised, moments of clarity and vitality.

For all of our desires, our work and seeking, these moments are the points of change. It is as if we are handed the answer, a spit second of realisation that brings all our hopes into light. We may work arduously for year after year to accomplish our plans; fail over and again. We may doubt, struggle with purpose and suffer at the hands of our emotions. But it is within a single moment, a saturating light of discovery, that our goals become reachable. It is in that one miraculous millisecond that everything falls into place and the future becomes real and predictable. It is this gift that transforms us forever.

Those who accomplish greatness in life will attest to this fact; when all is clear and right and when answers and direction become ripe for the picking. Creativity is a spark within which these moments exist. Great songs, writing, art or any creative endeavour comes into being from these moments, like gifts given in the openness of love.

Many question the origin of these defining moments, feeling that they are simply a receiver of the truth; perhaps they are right. Perhaps we are helped along in life, and if open to opportunities given can transform ourselves and our world. There may be an omniscient eye lending a helping hand when we truly need it, or within us is the spark of change and it is we alone that draw from the well. Whatever the case, these moments are ours to experience and to understand.

Life is a mystery, a miraculous journey of learning that is defined by many such moments. From finding love, to solving problems, realising dreams and changing the world, we are connected to a vast and infinite source of life. Within it lie many answers to our multitude of questions, awaiting the right moments to inspire our lives and to change life for the better. Perhaps next time you experience a defining moment, you will realise it and give thanks for yet another gift in life, another possibility.
