IN biblical times the river Nile played a key role in the development of the world's socio-economic and religious life.

The Israelites or iots ancient name Hebrews grew healthy and strong and rapidly grew in number in number filling the land of Egypt with them despite their bitter way of life with hard work as slaves. So fearful that the Hebrews may join their enemies in time war, Pharaoh commanded all his subjects to throw all baby boys born to the Hebrews to the NILE RIVER to drown or be devoured by crocodiles.

Jochebed, Moses' mother planned ways to escape him from the hands of Pharaoh's soldiers. With a boat-basket of reeds made waterproofed with mud and pitch, she laid the 3-month old Moses in it and made it afloat among the bulrushes in the Nile River. Jochebed was contented in the thought that someone with a kind heart may took pity on the helpless boy and adopt him as her own, rather than see him eaten by the Nile hungry crocs.
