One Question Personality Test

One Question Personality Test

Would you like to know more about yourself and how you are perceived by others? If you don’t, you should. Why? Because each one of us may be two people: the person we think we are and the person other people think we are.

Wasn’t it Robert Burns, the famous Scottish poet, who said way back in the 1700s – no, although I’m older than dirt, he was not a personal acquaintance – ““O wad some power the giftie gie us, To see oursel's as ithers see us!”

Here is a very simple one-question personality test. All you have to do is answer one simple question. Are you up for it? Okay. This is the scenario:

You have your entire day tomorrow free of any obligation whatsoever. You don’t have to go to work. You don’t have to pick the kids up at school. You don’t have to walk the dog. You don't have to pick up your mother-in-law at the airport. (Just kidding). You don’t have any responsibilities whatsoever.

Maybe it's not the shirt. Maybe it's his personality.
Maybe it's not the shirt. Maybe it's his personality.

The Question: What would you like to do most tomorrow?

Below is a list of sixteen choices. Pick the one you would most like to do more than any other. Just one.

Don’t agonize over it. Just choose the one phrase that describes what you would like to do the most tomorrow. Write it down.

• • Organize a class reunion

• • Imagine how the world could be improved

• • Play charades

• • Have a conversation with a friend

• • Be president of a club

OMG! I am sitting here with my mouth wide open, LOL. This is amazing, my choice described me to a "t". I am definitely the "IDEALIST / SEARCHER", even being impatient with routine details. I was thinking before choosing, that the choices would be influenced by what I am experiencing at the moment such as my friends living in other States, so was not expecting astonishing results.

Vote up, awesome, shared in Facebook!

Well, I chose the "artist" profile, and must admit much of it fits. These tests are always fun, a bit like horoscopes, general enough to cover a wide range of attributes and flattering enough to avoid too much scrutiny.

So come on, spill it...what was your choice?

Hi, Lela. We have something else in common. I met 'Ahnold' once, too. I selected the Schwarzeneggers because they are one of the few couples I am aware of with the same personality preferences.

Though it is often said opposites attract, that doesn't seem to hold true in their case.

Delighted that the test was very accurate for you.

Drbj - I just realized I didn't say, I picked imagining how I could make the world a better place. (but I just got home from my volunteer job)! Now which one would you choose? Of course, you don't have to answer, but I'm curious about that one!

As always an interesting hub from you! At first I was a bit sceptic about where this was going since self tests usually end up fitting almost everyone no matter how you answer the questions. But this test was different and so descriptive on those different personalities! I only have one problem with this article; I couldn’t choose a choice; do you have any personality description for such a person:) No, joking aside, I did choose two choices; imagine how the world could be improved and contemplating your perfect home. Those two described me perfectly, so I guess I am two personalities!

Thanks for a very enjoyable read of a wonderful hub! Voted up!

Oh, my. I thought I was coming to this latest hub of yours to read it, but somehow I landed on your profile page. Since it was in the form of an interview (possibly a personality test)- I accepted it and read the interview. Just one shock. I misread this question - "Q – Which did/do you enjoy the most?" - and read an "L" into that "did/do" combo. It really shook me up! My annual eye examination is obviously TOO long past due. . . .!! (or something is!) YIKES!!

Now to see if I can do better reading the actual hub! I'll be back after I have read it!

Nellieanna profile image

aha - several of the choices interested me greatly and comprise much that I do in my relatively "free time", but this was to be a totally spontaneous WISH-choice for self-gratification when there are no other demands or pre-commitments. And my choice told on me. ARTIST. :-) I could revel in art, though I'd have to return to other things. I'm not exactly a split personality - but I am almost equally right and left brained. So I have to tend to both.

Clever test!! Thanks, DRBJ. That's why YOU are the DR.!!

sueroy333 profile image

This was fun!

I couldn't find writing and reading books on there, so I settled for dancing and going to a party. Of course, it would have to be a subdued party of my friends who aren't very party-like- so that didn't really work either.

I would have picked contemplating how to make the world a better place, but I would be done after an hour, and it said I had ALL DAY!! I would hate to find myself staring at a blank wall for the other 23 hours.

Charades seemed like fun, but it would really depend on who wanted to play with me.. and would we be playing the whole time, or could we take an hour to contemplate how to make the world a better place?

I think this means I'm a psychotic person who can't make up their mind..... or I'm... no, it's the psychotic thing.

My poor child....

Thank you, sembj, for the sublime comments. Happy that my hard work paid off in a clever and entertaining hub. As for 'deviously accurate,' funny but that's what most of my friends call me, too.

Delighted that your choice yielded uncanny results. Can you see me taking a bow?

What a great hub. Though I couldn't make a definate choice I did find that the ones I contimplated actually fit my personality well. Voted up and useful.

workingmomwm profile image

workingmomwm 5 years ago from Kentucky, USA

I couldn't decide between the conversation with a friend or heading out to the country. Then I realized I wouldn't want to head out to the country unless my husband went with me (and he chose that one), so I went with the conversation with a friend, since he's my best friend. Turns out it was spot-on - for both of us. He's the Artisan, and I'm the Idealist! :-)

Sweetsusieg profile image

Sweetsusieg 5 years ago from Michigan

Maybe if my home wasn't always in an uproar my answer would be different, but for now I choose "Have a conversation with a friend" it was a toss up between that and "Quietly speculate on practical ideas". Since I rarely get to have a good conversation that improves my self worth ("Mom, why didn't you do.." does not promote self worth!), I would now choose that. I have limited my close friends, and of those I have chosen are only uplifting people (as I am). But I do so want a little quiet in my life as well!

What I did choose fit me to a T... If you only knew how many projects I have laying around that I haven't fini....

Thumbs up and shared!!

Sorry it was an 'oops' for you, bluestar. But thanks for the positive comment. When you made your choice, did you choose the one you really would like to do, or the one you thought you OUGHT to really like to do? Just wonderin'.

Hi, Jaye, Thank you for being intrigued by this hub. Many folks, including myself, are a composite of choices but there is usually one set of preferences that is our favorite. And that one tends not to change over time.

drbj profile image

drbj 5 years ago from south Florida Author

I'm not surprised, RH, at your choice. Were you surprised that you, among other things, are the most poetic of all 16 types?

Since you asked, I can be either the Journalist or the Leader/Instructor - whichever the situation demands. Also known as a mild case of multiple personality disorder - but keep that to yourself. :)

I agree with you, Tina, this test IS different. Mainly because it is so short, so simple, and in most cases, so accurate.

Sometimes it is difficult to make a choice but your two choices contain a number of similarities and are much like two sides of the same coin.

So rather than having two distinctly different personalities, you possess an expanded personality with multiple preferences causing you to be an even more interesting individual. But you already know that.

Thanks for enjoying the read and your fascinating comments. And the up!

drbj profile image

drbj 5 years ago from south Florida Author

So you landed on my profile page, Nellieanna, and misread my did/do remark? You naughty girl! If I were a psychoanalyst I might tell you that your action was not a mistake but a conscious decision. Hoo, hah!

But since I am a behaviorist instead, forget all of the above (if you can). :)

drbj profile image

drbj 5 years ago from south Florida Author

So ... 'this was so much fun,' Simone? I know that you are NOT a woman of only a few words since I have enjoyed reading a number of your literate and thoughtful hubs, so tell me, was it accurate for you?

drbj profile image

drbj 5 years ago from south Florida Author

Welcome back, my Princess of Poesy, dear Nellieanna. I am not surprised at your choice of ARTIST. You are an undisputed artist of prose, poetry and art.

I am moved to call your work "... a dish fit for the Gods." - Brutus in Shakespeare's 'Julius Caesar.' Then again, maybe not since Brutus was describing the most humane way to assassinate Caesar rather than simply carving him up.

Regardless, I always appreciate your exceptional work as well as your sublime comments. So if I am the DR then you are definitely the PRINCESS!

Hi, Paradise, you are spot on. No one can flunk this test. They could be committed, perhaps, but not for flunking. (I love that word - it's so descriptive sounding.)

Thanks for finding this fun.

Okay, Laurel, if you are "heading out for the country," drive carefully and obey the speed limits. I know how you like to test yourself.

I do appreciate your honesty, Ruby. Yup, I knew you were a fun-loving gal from the get-go and fun to be with just like your choice of "go dancing."

And since you are also warm, optimistic and gregarious I can understand your interest in making the world better. Which you do, m'dear, with your lovely poetry.

That Elvis was special, too, I would interview him but he's always out dancing somewhere. :)

Hi, Fossillady - happy you found this fun and interesting as well as the celebrity quotes and prayers.

If your choice didn't fit the way you see yourself, would you say that it might be more accurate for the way others see you. Just wonderin'.

drbj profile image

Yes, you do have a problem, sueroy. You are an - dare I say it? - analyst. From your comments I would suggest you take a look at the preference called Author: teaching, writing, vivid imagination, and also genuinely enjoys helping others as in making the world a better place.

Delighted that you found this fun - you could always take some time to play charades or go dancing in the evenings. Whatcha think?

And put your mind at ease about the psychotic thing. True psychotics seldom believe they have a problem. It's the other guy/gal who is (clinical word here) - loony.

drbj profile image

Hi, Lela - I'm mystified. Why did you think that sueroy thinks you are certifiable? I don't. Yet!

Pleasure to meet you, workingmomwm. Does the 'wm' in your avatar stand for 'with money'? Just wonderin'.

Thanks for finding this test spot on. You might like to take a shot - each of you - at "The Pig Personality Test." See link above.

Funny, drbj - I met my husband while I was living in Jacksonville, FL...lol - I spent a year there. :) I'm a midwest girl at heart, though, so we moved here. Detroit wasn't exactly the best place in the world to start anew at the time. :)

And, it's a pleasure to meet you as well.

So glad you were able to find a fulfilling choice, susie. The Idealist/Searcher preference seems to fit you well - creative writing is one of its dominant characteristics and you are an excellent, creative writer, m'dear.

Procrastination does sometimes rear its head with this choice but only because you are always searching for the best answers, the best possibilities.

Thank you for the up and the sharing - you are much appreciated.

It was most definitely my sincere pleasure to remind you, RH, of your potential as a poet.

Now wait a minute, Motown, keep encouraging Lela and Laurel and there's no telling the consequences.

@Lela - Depends, I am told, you can depend on.

@Laurel - Speaking of being a pest, here's my favorite take on the subject: "A friend in need is a pest indeed." I have spoken.

I still can't make up my mind whether to 'imagine how the World could be improved', or 'organise a party', so maybe I'll just sit and read a book about the Art o Decision Making. But I'm not sure about that, and I can't decide why - so maybe I won't do that either...

Did you say one question?

drbj profile image

Perhaps, amillar, you could organize a get-together (party) and ask your guests to offer suggestions on how the world could be improved. There is nothing wrong with selecting two choices. I have. (Journalist and Leader/Instructor).

I suppose this is true since I have held positions in all six of those—except government. :D

Thank you for the journey. I can dig it!

Thank you for digging it, James, and thank you immensely for the compliment - 'most interesting hubs of all.'

I don't like any of the choices. First, suspecting that might be the case, I figured out what I'd REALLY like to do with a total "Free Day". Then since none of the 16 choices fit, I read a couple that PARTIALLY fit--and yes, the descriptions partifally fit me as well.

Okay, now to go check out Genghis Khan.

Note: Mrs. J.B. recommended I actually read some of your stuff. Shame on her; I'm already about half hooked!

Mebbe, Nellieanna, but I can't remember what that word means! heh, heh.

Thank you for giving me an opening for my favorite forgetful joke:

Three senior ladies are talking. One says, "You know, I'm getting really forgetful. This morning, I was standing at the top of the stairs, and I couldn't remember whether I had just come up or was about to go down."

The second one says, "You think that's bad? The other day, I was sitting on the edge of my bed, and I couldn't remember whether I was going to sleep or had just awakened."

The third one smiles smugly. "Well, my memory is just as good as it's always been, knock on wood," she says as she raps on the table.

Then with a startled look on her face, she calls out, "Who's there?"

Simply scrolling down the list, I choose Art to start off with not even finishing the list yet. Mainly because if I had no obligations and no interuptions, I would sit down and write all day long. But, after glancing and making a decision without thinking much... going with my gut... my actual decision (after looking at them all) was to leave the country. Mainly because if nothing was in my way - I would love to travel. My lifestyle makes that nearly impossible to get out of the country. It is my adventurous side coming out. Even though I don't like to be overly dangerous. I work myself up way too much! Great hub! Interesting comparison on how things can tell your personality!

drbj profile image

You would write 'all day long,'barbergirl? Then you are certainly in the right place on Hubpages. Nice to meet you.

You may be the Artisan and the Artist - they are similar in many ways.

barbergirl28 profile image

Actually, I change my mind... I just gave my husband the test and as I read through all the answers, I realized that I would rather play charades. The reason I probably overlooked it the first time is because I have never played charades... but I do like board games and family game nights. My husband was the Artisan - and that described him to a T - wasn't as much a good description of me. However, when I realized my simple mistake of overlooking things.... Charades fits me perfectly... lol

Overall, great hub... even if I have to weigh everything over and over and over again. LOL Wait - isn't that like the Journalist!

Thanks for enjoying this 'test,' Pamela. You are right on the mark. Both of your choices do have similarities. Think about it. You could "go to a party" and "have a conversation with a friend." Works for me! :)

Hi again( drbj)you have so much neat STUFF on your site.I chose the DANCE.The choices could be situational.Example--Had to opt for the trip out of town because while looking at houses my dog made a mess" and the house belonged to the terminator. Thanks again for the listen,ED.

As always, Ed, I am happy to hear from you. Yes, you are correct. The choices could be situational so I could easily understand if you took a "tour of houses." Without the dog, that is. And thanks for the 'neat stuff' comment - I shall treasure it. Promise.

Did I mention, Ed, the slight charge for therapeutic aid? Not to worry. I accept all charge cards, money orders, checks, cheques, and loose change.

(drbj)Allways Good to hear from you. I'll gladly pay you tuesday for a hamberger today. As for loose change===In school many teachers used that term to address questions about my I.Q. Well thanks again for the jingle.STAY HAPPY.ED.

play charades-it was so accurate and weird that you can figure someone by one question!

Dr BJ,

I was TORN between a conversation with a friend and heading to the country. So, I surmised I could be persuasive enough to have both and take the friend to the country and have a conversation while we found something exciting to get into. (Grin!)

Worked for me!

I've decided in personality tests, the shorter the better, and in the short of it, HOPEFULLY they'll have accomodating choices. They make soooo much more sense than the ones that request to select the one that comes closest to fitting the test taker, and then don't offer anything that remotely FITS the test taker.

Those drive me bats. This one made me grin.

Since I'm a Gemini, I think it's my birth right that should allow me to have taken two and blended them into one. Hope that doesn't reflect that I'm greedy, because I'm usually willing to share. :)

Not to worry about your IQ, Ed. You are head and shoulders above the rest. And what did those teachers know. They were just jealous. Right? You stay happy, too, my friend.

Hi, rdhkir. Nice to meet you. Delighted it was so accurate when you answered the one question. It does seem weird, I know, but this survey was crafted from the much more extensive Myers-Briggs instrument which I value. Thanks for visiting.

Hi, Angelia. I apologize for taking so long to respond to your interesting comments, but somehow I was not notified until this week when HP changed its system of notifications. Mea culpa, m'dear.

It was clever of you to adopt both choices and it makes complete sense because they are not mutually exclusive activities. You can do both successfully at the same time.

I am a fan of short personality tests, too, and this one is one of my favorites. Also, the 'Simple Symbol Personality Test' is fun.

Delighted that I made you grin with this and since you are a Gemini, you do indeed have special dispensation to blend the two choices. I have spoken!

I chose "head for the country" because I thought a relaxing day in the tranquil beauty of the countryside might be just the ticket, but the personality description is of an action-man. I couldn't be less like that! I guess heading for the country may mean something else in the U.S.A., like hunting, fishing and chopping down trees:)

Very insightful, witty, fun to read hub! Thank you for the research and personality tests and video! I have always scoffed at the idea of multi-tasking, and your article validates that multi-tasking is a myth at best, at worst a lie created by greedy bosses who wanted to hire one individual who would be willing to do the job of three__or more. Thus, the brutal practice of "downsizing." Thanks again!

Great activity! I can see this as an excellent activity in the classroom. I wasn't surprised that I chose the first one. I enjoy organizing and envisioning the future. Thanks

Katherine and James and I would have a lovely day together. Stumbling around in the country soaking in the lovely there was my first choice and I do it as often as I can.

My second choice was help a friend move...like to do and do...and I am an expert in the whole moving thing.

I will need to check out some more of the links you provided...

Sending Angels to you drbj...:) ps

This is again a very interesting quiz. Very interesting way of presentation of the results. Though it was completely accurate for my friends, it wasn't quite for me! ;D

I think this is the shortest of any personality test. It came out to be reasonably correct for me!
