Do you judge a book by its cover?
I know I have been guilty of it. Just last Halloween, we had a church hayride/fall festival. A man came up to me wearing long stringy hair and had tattoos up both arms. He looked as if he was a "dope-head". I wanted nothing to do with him. I was thinking he may have been someone who knew me from my past life. I judged him by his appearance. Lo and behold, as he spoke I realized he was my friend and Pastor, Joe Wilson. Not the same Joe who called President Obama a liar either.
See the pictures to the right.
Would you have believed this to be the same man?
Would you have trusted the guy in the top picture?
Yes, I was guilty of judging by appearance.
Everyone does it.
I have found lately that is the issue in my case too.
I have been searching for a job.
I have been told that when my hair is a bit long and I don't shave that I look like a cross between Charlie Manson and David Koresh.
I decided just the other day to shave my facial hair off. I have been amazed at how people are treating me now. Nothing has changed in my attitude or my heart; I just don't have facial hair now and I am treated with much more respect.
It really hurts inside how man-kind can be. How we judge by an outside appearance. Would we know Jesus if He were walking down the street? Would we consider Him a freak? Would we be afraid he would kill or steal from us?
I have put together here a set of polls. Please be fair and don't scroll down.
Can you really judge a book by the cover?
How You Did
You may have known who a few of these people are.
At the side and down is a slide-show telling who each of these people are. Below their picture is a caption telling who or what they did.
How did you do?
The lesson here is to learn about the person from the inside; not the outside.
Some of the best people you will meet in life may look as if they have murdered many people. Some of the worst people may look as if they are getting ready to preach in the local church.
Please think before you judge. Don't judge before you think!
The next time you think you have someone down-pat because of their appearance, please remember this hub.
Heck, you may be looking at Jesus or the developer of the cure for cancer, or you may be looking at a cold-blooded killer.
Test their hearts, not their looks!
May God give you wisdom in how you treat your fellow man.
For those that are African American, I left out anyone with color because there is way too much racial profiling in the United States as it is. I did not want any of this hub to seem as a racial profiling work. Please understand that this is why.
I look forward to hearing any and all comments.
Thanks for reading.
