Region XIII or Caraga

Region XIII or Caraga is located in Northeastern Mindanao. It is bounded in the North by Region VIII; in the South by Davao del Norte; in the West by Bukidnon and Misamis Oriental; and in the East by the Pacific Ocean. The provinces of Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, Agusan del Norte and Agusan del Sur comprise the region. There are two cities in the region: Surigao and Butuan. They are located in Surigao del Norte and Agusan del Norte, respectively..

Geographical Features

The region boasts of hills and rugged mountains, extensive jplains and plateaus and the Diwata Mountain Range which lines the northern boundary of Surigao del Sur. Agusan River, the third largest in the country is found in Agusan del Norte.

Products and Industries

Mining, agriculture, fishing and logging are the major industries of the region. Nonoc Island in Surigao del Norte has the world's biggest nickel deposit Point Tugas in Surigao del Sur has also the world's biggest iron deposit. Other mineraTproducts are gold, silver, copper, lead and chromite. Agricultural products consist of rice, copra, abaca and corn. Toog which is considered the biggest tree in the Philippines is found in Agusan del Sur. Rubber is another important product in this province.

Scenic Spots

The region boasts of scenic soots. Famous beaches include Ipil Beach Resort, Danawan Island Resort, Mabua^ Beach Resort, Panombayan Beach and General Luna.

Tourists also visit caves and waterfalls such as the Buenavista and Sta. Monica Caves and Buyho Falls. There is also the Balanghai Shrine, Mt. Mayapay and Suwatan Digging Site.

Of interest to local and foreign visitors is thejDay-Asan floating Barangay.
