LOSS OF ELECTICITY

COULD WE LOSE ELECTRICITY?

While we are in a society that uses electricity and most of the equipment uses electricity any loss of electricity could mean disaster, productivity loss, food spoilage and in some cases, loss of life. Society and the infrastructure are geared for electricity and the power grid to continue working and functioning.

The gas pumps stop, the refrigeration units stop, the subways stop, the traffic stops, the lights go dark and events start to happen. The crime rate goes up, the utilities cease, there are no credit card or debit machines working and the stores close their doors. We run on electricity !

If the electricity is down for more than three days, major problems start to happen. Basic items that keep people alive and well run out or stop. The diesel engines that run in an emergency start to run out of diesel which can supply electricity for a number of days. The hospitals, telephone service, the emergency personnel and the vital water services stop.

When the electricity stops, there is little time to acquire the items needed to weather the outage. Unless you have the items already, the stores, during an outage, most likely will not allow you to come into the store, because of rioting, looting and not being able to take the money for exchange. You must be prepared ahead of time.

The Ball of Spewing Gas, OUR SUN!

Are we ready for the problems associated with solar flares that can cause major problems with the electrical grid?

The closer we get to the massive sun flares major ejections that will happen in 2013 till the end of the sun's activity, are we ready for the loss of the electrical grid?

how to survive the Coming Solar Storms without electricity

Coronal Mass Ejections

NASA has reported that the Coronal Mass Ejections
from the sun would be more of a problem because
of our Earth's magnetic field has some holes that
will allow the sun's particles to cook the power grid.

Could we survive without electricity for a week,
a month, a year, or even 5 to 10 years?

Could we even survive a week?

WITHOUT ELECRICITY WHAT WOULD HAPPEN?

Without electricity, what would happen to our society?

Without electricity, what would shut down?

Without electricity, what would quit?

Without electricity, how long could you live in the area of the country that you are living?

Society would Fall

Just what runs on electricity? In our society, almost everything that we have is associated with electricity. The food, water, clothing, transportation, fuel, lights, heat, prisons,

communications, ships, military, raising crops, and cooling need electricity as part of the process. This electricity, if discontinued or disrupted, could send the world back hundreds of years in development.

THE SUN IS WAKING FROM SLEEP !!!

NASA has stated that the sun has been quiet for some time and now is starting to become alive with movement, solar flares and solar activity. These so called solar flares, or SOLAR MASS EJECTIONS, can cause total chaos and disorder to our electrical systems, including transportation, communication and the welfare of most people. There are more than 7 billion people living on the Earth now and it takes advanced, mechanical equipment to produce enough food to feed this many people.

With this many people, it takes massive amounts of water for the people’s survival of living in those cities and towns. The water filtration and purification systems of those enormous cities and towns use massive amounts of electricity to provide this function. In the large cities, the high rise buildings and sky scrapers use electricity for elevators, to circulate fresh air to the different floors, to pump water to the upper floors, to heat and cool the occupants, to keep the food frozen, for communication, and for security.

SENDING FOR HELP DURING AN EMP

The concern living in a large metropolis during a power or electrical outage for some time, should be of imposing distress to anyone living in a very large city or town. The first responders, the police, the fire department workers and servants could not be relied on during any disturbance because of many reasons.

Number one concern would be that they would be trying to get their own family to safety. If there were still some people willing to help, without electricity, the transportation would not be available, the elevators would not be working, there would be total darkness at night, people would be in a panic mode and then the sheer numbers of people needing help would soon triumph even the best of the crisis responders.

A MASSIVE SOLAR STORM INFORMATION

Some Suggestions for EMP Survival

The concern living in a large metropolis during a power or electrical outage for some time, should be of imposing distress to anyone living in a very large city or town. The first responders, the police, the fire department workers and servants could not be relied on during any disturbance because of many reasons.

If there were Still some people willing to help, without electricity, the transportation would not be available, the elevators would not be working, there would be total darkness at night, people would be in a panic mode and then the sheer numbers of people needing help would soon triumph even the best of the crisis responders.

The SOLAR STORMS, THE EMP’s, THE CORONAL MASS EJECTIONS, and the magnetic clouds and vibrations may be the cause of massive electrical power outages, causing disruptions in life as the world knows it.

What happens today may be the reason that your life might be spared. So what would you need to do to see that you continue your existence longer? Here are some suggestions:

1) Do not stay in the large city.

2) Have ample supply of fresh drinking water

3) Have ample supply of food that is edible, with long shelf life

4) Have back-ups

5) Have some ways to keep warm

6) Have changes of clothing, including long underwear

7) Have some way to prepare food

8) Have high calorie, high energy food

9) Stay calm; always have another plan

10) Have reliable friends, neighbors and contacts

While no one knows the future, the need for belonging, neighbors and friendships helps every one in life. Until the true survival mode kicks into the person, the reality will not be known of what that person will or will not do. To survive, would a person eat certain kinds of food that would have never been eaten, dig in a dumpster for food, or drink water out of a river?

Interesting article. I may be wrong but my understanding is that telephone and many other services and even vehicles' computer systems making most cars and trucks useless. The picture you paint is dour enough without adding what may well be unfounded worries. Thanks for the interesting read.

Thank you for commenting. The article is not for scaring, but for information purposes. The large cities seem to be a very big problem with any power outage, but a very long power outage that could come with a Solar Storm could mean death to many. thank you again!!!

Thank you Sottway for the positive comment. There are many links associated with the Solar Storms and EMP's that one might believe that there may be something that is truth with the predictions and forcasts. Thank you again, so very much for commenting !!

Solar storm is a reality.I am not sure how many countries has disaster recovery plan to fight against a solar storm.I guess our telecommunication systems is the most vulnerable to magnetic storm.Very interesting write-up and thank you so much for the survival suggestions.

Thank you so very much for your comment, Andromida. During researching the biggest problem on recovery is the transformers. These are on a waiting list now, but if a solar storm hits, it may take years to replace the transformers. The sun seems to coming out of its resting period, with very much more activity. Thank you again for your comment.

It strikes me that the single biggest problem is going to be water. We use a tremendous amount of water and storage systems won't last but a few hours. Most people have enough drinkables on hand to make it a few days, but what then? Many cities don't have rivers nearby, but even if they do there will be hundreds of thousands gathered around it.

If an EMP takes out computers in our cars and trucks, the problem will likely be how to bury millions before disease strikes. Without transportation the water becomes an even bigger and very immediate problem.

I could see where water would be of great concern because all the raw sewage would go directly into the creeks, rivers and streams with no electricity to run the treatment plants. All the people downstream would be getting all the run off and sewage from the people who used the water first. It would not take long for any disease to spread like wild fire. Thank you for your wonderful comment and thoughts.

Exactly what type of disease would we deal with?

Would it be fatal? I know that may be a stupid question.

Also, would we eventually need to take action physically. Like defending our family's from thieves?

DRINKING THE UNTREATED WATER COULD CONTAIN FECAL MATERIAL, THAT COULD CONTAIN MILLIONS OF BACTERIA AND VIRUSES, CAUSING SICKNESS AND DEATH.

In any country that the water systems have not been updated or has been destroyed, the purity of water goes downhill. (things flow downhill) So, any sewage, wastes and by products actually would not be treated properly without electricity. Most sewage systems uses anerobic (oxygen using bacteria) to treat the waste, then usually chemically treat the bacteria that could cause sickness. Most sewage systems uses electicity for pumping, filtration, removal of sediment, chemical transfers and for oxygen enhancement.

Basically, any disease that would be at the hospitals, in sewage, in decaying organic material, warfare weapons, genetically altered organisms or any virus, bug, insect, bacteria or would thrive in an untreated situation, we would be dealing with.

Some of the books written by Rawles tell of some stories that could happen. When we look back on the riots in California and hurricane Katrina, we can see what people do when things get out of control. These happen so quickly, that the police, the medical technicians and FEMA would not enter these areas until things settle down some. One of the books, called, TEOTWAWKI (The end of the world as we know it), relates to some of the situations and how to prepare for them.

I really think that some of the areas will deal better than others and for some areas, there will be mass chaos, confussion and killings, if there would be a collapse of the infrastructure.

Our lives, right now, seem to be in control of the insects, bugs, prisons, murder, court systems, bacteria, hospital systems, the water and sewage systems with the technology that we have. Our lives seem like they are basically good and secure.

Where is our peace and security, when there is none?(Bibical) My Dad says to live one day at a time and see what tomorrow brings, then deal with it. For me, I like some peace and security. Acording to the Bible, God will take care of the animals' and our needs, so why worry? I believe that God has given us the ability to preserve ourselves and has given us a brain to know that danger is coming, to be prepared.

So, to answer your questions, just about anything could happen if we didn't have electricity. Our country runs on electricity to keep abay the diseases and sicknesses. The electricity keeps us happy, contented, healthy and busy.

The best way to defend against the theives is to have great neighbors and friends. The question that would have to be asked would be what these people would do if there were no food or water. Survival changes things!

Each person would have to decide on bonding or defending, living or dying, staying or running. The choices would have to be thought about before an event happens, otherwise it might be too late.

Will solar storms be the end of the world?

LAURENS WRIGHT profile image

danielabram, the sun has had solar storms before but when the solar flares that are above 5 on the x class is when the electrical grid is in danger. The sun rotates and turns and the direction of the blasts also have to be figured into the factors. It is like a person is sitting in a chair in the middle of a room with a shotgun and as he turns in the chair, the person shoots the shotgun. If the shot misses, all seems ok. For now, everything is ok. Check out the power/electrical grid in India. The entire electrical grid collapsed and with the many computers that are running the grid, the same could happen here in the states.

So if the grid goes down, our world will change, maybe being kicked back a couple of hundred years. The Earth has over 7 billion people and electricity makes this possible for this many people to live, survive and thrive. Without electricity, things will change.

There is a new TV series coming out called, "Revolution" and it deals with the collapse of the electrical grid. The previews are out and they seem to cover some of the main topics.

Thank you for commenting and the question.

I live off the grid now and have everything needed to keep my family alive and well in most situations. Since the 1980s even when I lived in the city I always diverted some of the rainwater on the roof into 700 litre water tanks to use on the garden and have as stand-by in case of emergencies ... and I grew vegetables in the garden even in the years before I owned my own home.

You can stock your pantry with as much food as you like, but without water for drinking, washing and flushing the toilet life becomes really difficult. I personally believe that large quantities of stored water should be essential in every home - along with something to purify it for drinking.

Thank you, LongTimeMother, for your insight and suggestions. Without drinkable water, a person will die in about 3 days, which is a very short span of time. Since you have been off the grid for some time, please write some Hubs on how you do this. Again, thank you for reading and your comments.

400 panels can't enrsue power even for a single light bulb. Since they produce electricity only if the sun shines, before dawn end after dusk they produce nothing. Zero. When they say: x generators are capable of producing y kwh, enough to supply z homes they mean that in a year the generators produce what z homes consumes annualy. To effectively supply z homes, the generators must also produce instant per instant what those houses require in a just in time supply-consumption.
