- Designated Learning Institutes
To apply for a study permit on or after June 1, 2014, you will need a letter of acceptance from a designated learning institution.
As admission and visa application process have many stages and it may take approx 8 to 10 week time, you start process well in time. Canadian colleges and Universities normally have three intakes a year. These are January, May & September every year. You have to check the availability of particular course in particular intake. International students are expected to start planning for their studies in Canada 6 to 8 months in advance. Once you have selected your proposed course and college, you have to send application along with requisite application fee for admission offer letter. College may take time of few weeks to issue admission offer letter.
Foreign students who wish to study in Canada, must take study visa or study permit, and to apply for study permit student must show Letter of Acceptance from Designated Learning Institute. Another main requirement is show sufficient funds to finance your studies and to cover other expenses in that country.
Applicant must be able to convince visa officer that you main motive is to study and you will return your homeland after completion of studies.
Student Partners Program for Indian Students
For Indian students, a special program is introduced which os known as Student Partners Program generally referred as SPP. It is an administrative framework designed and implemented in partnership between the Canadian Visa offices in India and the Association of Canadian Community Colleges (ACCC).
SPP was launched in April 2009 with the aim to improve the recruitment of students. Initially it was introduced in India only but later on it was extended in China as well. Under this program the admission and visa application process is streamlined to make it more fast and result oriented.
There is list of more than 40 colleges and Universities under this program. These colleges fall mainly in five provinces of Canada. There is always possibility of more colleges to be included under SPP and final list must be checked before applying under SPP criteria.
Under SPP students apply to a participating College and may be considered under the program if they meet specific criteria of IELTS minimum 6.0 bands overall with no band less than 5.5 and student should have above 50% marks in 12th. Different courses have different requirements as well.
